Well, I'm not sure that I qualify as "someone who understands it better than me", but I do believe that it is profitable to bet draws.
You may well get folds -- which just gives you the pot.
Also, you may get called by worse draws or weak made hands. Since you're drawing to the nuts, this could very well mean you win a stack.

I'm interested in hearing what others think!

I think your original post is quite confusing.. So you are SB and someone raises before you and you just call pre.
If you then check and the guy bets 3/4, IMO you still have to call, you have nut FD + 2 overcards. On the flop you don't necessarily always have to fold if you are not offered direct odds to call. You still have to defend some % of your range and you still have some implied odds.

So here you are planning on donking very small with a drawing hand?

Could you explain a bit more what are you trying to do, so I might be able to help you :)
