your granddad must be proud of you
Sure I will filp you for it.
Heads I win, tails you lose OK?
I will even filp the coin...
It's unfortunate for grandpa that he has such a moron for a nephew.
So what then if you win the flip? Flip for 10K? It's not even ur money anyway, right?
Why don't you do something productive with it you selfish degenerate... 22,000 children die every day due to poverty. Give it to them.

nice one
Seriously guys. Whats here to like. The guy is a degenerate scumbag gambler (emphasis on the fact that the money isn't his earnt), and one of the few highlights of his miserable existance is to make this kind of bragging thread, to let everybody know what kind of cool guy he is for considering making a $5000 flip. Of course you have to like these kind of guys because they make our income. But admire? Like their style?
I'd understand teenage girls to get wet over it but you guys? Sons, I'm dissapoint,
Sorry dad. I will try harder. I'm a sucker for a guy with a big wad.

Please don't throw about misinformed insults that I am some scumbag degenerate, I volunteer for the Australian PETA arm and am very successful/productive in what I do for a living ( http://ussc.edu.au/people/david-smith ).
The money is mine. I would prefer the excitement and enjoyment from a large if infrequent win over the small enjoyment of a small amount.
After reading through the comments I am also starting to consider a big tournament or some sort of marathon prop bet.

Another academic! Explains a lot. I'd go for a haircut, followed by the big tournament. Gl.
Sorry dad. I will try harder.
And you are funny too. Making a point is easy when you have mastered the art of irony so well. Gongrats.
Anyways on topic. I once saw a video of a guy who sold everything he had and put the money on one roulette spin. A single dude. And the money was his. I thought it was extremely cool. That guy was cool.
There's one big difference with the OP though. OP doesn't have a moral right to spend this money the way he proposes. That makes him a pathetic scumbag. And liking him makes you a weird dude. I'd ignore the whole topic but the fact there are so many people who think like you - that gambling off your grandfathers valuable present is "cool, stilish etc", fills me with this sadness and frustration that urges me to reply this topic.
Calm it fuzzyfish.
I have an equal moral right to gamble just as that roulette guy does. I am sure that my grandfather envisaged I wouldn't be interested in the painting and left it for the monetary value. It would be more insulting to keep the gift while not appreciating/using it. I am putting it to good use.
Now that is has been sold, the money is mine.
I am sure that my grandfather envisaged I wouldn't be interested in the painting and left it for the monetary value.
Did he evisage you flipping the 5000$ you get from selling it? If he truly did I rest my case.

If you have a decent income then why do you need to sell a painting to gamble. Put aside $1k a month and you'll get to enjoy your flip at Christmas! Think about it. That would give you an even better kick, since it's not easy money, and it feels like it's worth more.
P.S. You mean the PETA which bashes medical scientists and pharamceutists, men who work day by day to save thousands of lives? I guess I wasn't wrong about you after all.
P.P.S I'm sorry to intrude this discussion between academics. Had no idea.
I don't have a consistent income. I get paid nothing from my role at the USSC - only from media appearances, journal articles and book releases.
Your claims about PETA are ridiculous. You seem to be quite skilled at making wild unsubstantiated accusations. ![]()
Firstly, that wasn't done by PETA - we are explicitly against violence against ANY living creature. It was most probably done by a renegade group. If it did happen, injuring 3 scientists in order to stop the abuse of millions of animals every year internationally is clearly justified from a utilitarian perspective. It reduces pain and suffering for millions of creatures for the pain of 3 scientists (a net beneficial impact!).

You seem to be quite skilled at answering only the questions that you are comfortable with. Did your grandfather envisage gambling off the money you get from selling the painting?

Are you one of those people who claim that a mouse has a mind? Also, how exactly is the net impact calculated? Maybe jbpatzer can help, he's a math man. It all comes to mind and self-consciousness. Only an idiot measures net impact by kg of organic matter. Saying that million mouses matter more than 3 scientists is complete hooey. I understand that you work at humanitarian field, but I think they should still have some IQ requirements when hiring people at universities.
"Putting it to good use" Hmmmm not sure about that one.
It seems you want to gamble it.
If anyone told their grandfather that their inheritance will go to good use he would expect a bit more I think.
Don't flip it on poker, it's a bad lesson on Bank Roll Management.
It might lead to other poor choices.
Use 5% of the total you got for the painting for some activity that will give you the buzz you are after, if it's a well thought out flip then that's cool.
You'll still have the remaining 95% to use in a more structured fashion to create wealth, travel, have fun what ever, just less risk.
Don't worry the money won't burn a hole in your pocket if you carry it around for a while.
GL with whatever you do....wish I had your decision for myself.
Peace
Simon
If you ship them to me on stars,I'll build a library and I'll name it after you.
Anyway,if you do decide to flip, warn a brother.
It is BObamajr's money, I don't know why people always feel the need to write such stupid things like "omg kids are dying and you're doing that wow what a moron". You're on a poker site let's be realistic.
On another note, I would say flipping is a pretty dumb idea only in the fact that I doubt you would have fun which you said is essentially your goal. Why don't you try instead something like betting on a sports game at 2:1 odds. I bet that would be much more exciting or you can stake me for the sunday million and I'll go all in every hand pre(I will actually do it lol)
I think you should use the 5k to buy some smoke, *distribute it to us forum members so everyone can just CHILLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL
*please note may be illegal
