I have some difficulty with check raising the flop, my flop check raise % is 8,7 do not know if this is to low?

I check raise my sets when board is wet and we are mw and i know pfr will cbet.

Also i like to check raise my big draws 12 outs or more.

I check raise my overcards or pp when am hu and the villain cbets to much, more then like 80%.

What other hands can i ad or is my range and check raise just fine

Hey, yeah we can c/r different boards vs different players.

Usualyl vs thinking players who play an "aggressive" game we can't get away c/r dry boards as bluffs as they won't let us win the hand, vs a nit who plays fit or fold we can though.

Example.

Button raises and we defend Qc10c.

K72cxx, we check and the loose guy bets.

Now if we raise he will float/3bet us a loty and there is basically nothing that we can do as 4bet shoving here is going to be total spew.

Vs the nit however if he has a4 he really isn't going to do anything, he will probably just sigh and then move on to the next hand (on one of his 12 tables)

Understanding which boards to c/r is not as important as knowing who to c/r which is something people don't consider enough.

I just find them my ever lasting nightmare. When i check the turn for pot control i always get suckout (at least i got that feeling). And when i go for 3 streets of value i get value owned on the river.

Even pocket kings (over 40 hands i still loose ) or AK (over 111 hands i loose -283bb/100)

I know sample is still small but i still wanna do something about this.

hihi,

Basically at small stakes with overpairs or top pair good kicker we should take the following line:

BET BIG UNTIL WE ARE RAISED AND THEN FOLD

A lot of players check back too many turns and just lose a ridic amount of value, others call turn/river raises that are just too heavily weighted towards value hands. Follow that template and I promise your win rate will improve.

First, thank you for your effort to provide us info about the game.
If you need to pick 2 or 3 things that make 6max player above average, what it would be?

Definitely not, I actually think most of my edge vs these guys comes from playing deep.

I really like playing deep with them as they aren't experienced playing deep but in Zoom you get deeper a LOT quicker. They play really scared and you can put so much pressure on them.

I have been experimenting with over-betting the turn in 3bet pots on dry boards when they have a capped range.

I.E i 3bet, they calls, q72, they c/call. Turn there is say 70 in the pot and I bet 176, Like really if they don't have pocket queens what are they going to do?

Sizing can change depending on villain etc, but generally I think just pounding on these guys who are weak and scared money in big 3bet pots when deep is definitely the way to go.

Also many people just deposit like 10bis to "try" Zoom, meaning if they have 200-300bbs on the table it could be a significant part of their roll.

4bb/100 at NL100 SH. Something to be happy about / good basics for future moving up or nothing special/has to be improved before moving up?

What happens to your 3B bluffing range?

Hey Max,

Sad to see you Bronze :(

Yeah I do, I 3bet broadways and suited aces a lot more as these hands play really well in 3bet pots, 3betting hands like 107s when deep can become less desirable, as if they call when deeper it won't really be a huge mistake to call a 3bet in position with k4s or something. Meaning 3bet "pretty" hands can have a lot more reverse implied odds thus meaning our 3bet ranges should change a lot as our stack gets deeper.

Remember it has to be "effective" stacks that we consider.

I've been thinking about getting a coach to get my game to the next level, but still unsure when I want to make the investment. I saw your coaching schedule in the beginning of the thread and it looks very interesting.

So my question:

How much do you charge for your coaching services?

Hey Schelles,

Your name rings smoothly off the tongue

I don't want to advertise my coaching in this thread, it wasn't made to further my own coaching stuff and I would prefer to give out all my knowledge for absolute free to you guys. Post as many questions in the thread and I will always look to help answer.

I charge around $200 an hour and like to book at least 5 hours per guy.

But really makes no sense for you to take it as I will help as much as possible here and try to give the community as much info as I possibly can.

I am actually going to be looking deeply into all of the videos we have at PokerStrategy and will probably refer back to this thread to some replies to people and point them in the right direction.

It's also very possible that we could be adding some new great names to our already great coaching list to watch this space!

I don't think so to be honest, I think surrounding yourself with poker friends and speaking intensively will be more rewarding (and you don't give away 50%) important thing is to not go into a skype group with a bunch of people. Too many people are in 10man+ skype groups, just find 2-3 people maximum and intesively learn and speak about poker.

Also it is ALOT more fun and ALOT more satisfying to do things yourself and to learn poker from scratch and look back and say "yep, I did it" the hard work will 100% pay off as long as you keep at it.

Poker is a skill game and the cream always rises to the top!

Overbetting turns/flops

Grabbed by Holdem Manager
NL Holdem $0.50(BB) Replayer
SB ($52.61)
BB ($103)
UTG ($61.10)
CO ($51.25)
Hero ($50)

Dealt to Hero 6♠ J♠

fold, fold, Hero raises to $1.25, fold, BB calls $0.75

FLOP ($2.75) 7♠ Q♠ Q♣

BB checks, Hero bets $1.75, BB calls $1.75

TURN ($6.25) 7♠ Q♠ Q♣ 4♠

BB checks, Hero bets $12, BB calls $12

RIVER ($30.25) 7♠ Q♠ Q♣ 4♠ 9♦

BB checks, Hero bets $35 (AI)

Somethimest they like to do all the work:

PokerStars Zoom No-Limit Hold'em, $0.25 BB (6 handed) - PokerStars Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com

Button ($26.43)
SB ($51.34)
BB ($70.38)
UTG ($38.01)
Hero (MP) ($117.61)
CO ($36.11)

Preflop: Hero is MP with J♠, 10:spade:
1 fold, Hero bets $0.75, CO calls $0.75, 2 folds, BB calls $0.50

Flop: ($2.35) 2♠, 3♦, J♣ (3 players)
BB checks, Hero bets $1.25, 1 fold, BB raises to $3.30, Hero calls $2.05

Turn: ($8.95) 6♠ (2 players)
BB bets $6, Hero calls $6

River: ($20.95) 7♠ (2 players)
BB bets $12, Hero raises to $25.25, BB raises to $60.33 (All-In), Hero calls $35.08

Total pot: $141.61 | Rake: $2

Results:

Spoiler

BB had J♦, 10:diamond: (one pair, Jacks).
Hero had J♠, 10:spade: (flush, Jack high).
Outcome: Hero won $139.61

I'd bet bigger on this flop btw.

I assume he will either call any cbet or fold to any cbet, so making it bigger inflates the pot vs hands that we dominate such as all pocket pairs, whilst we are very rarely dominated. We also can't expect to get 3 streets so getting 1 big street may be very important here.

Anyway, NH :)

There has been alot of 3bet/ 4bet action villian and me. I think villian is certainly capable of making 4-bet bluffs as he has a 4-bet percentage of 15.4 and knows I am capable of 3 bet bluffing in this spot. So far I hadn't made a 5 bet yet in the session. Also calling oop and then reraising looks more like a pocket pair or maybe suited connecters and thought I was either mostly flipping if he called or he would fold his bluff. What woud you think his range is in this spot? Is the 5 bet shove overplayed here?

Hey mate,

Sorry to say it but this is a huge mistake.

First of all the squeeze is completely fine and think it is totally fine with this hand, although calling may seem desirable, we are going to be c/f too often and hoping for flushes/2 pair for big value.

When the sb raises after calling initially they never ever fold here and they are never bluffing. I would actually give him a range of 99+ and a10+ here which we are dominated by.

It's actually a really good line to use vs good players, here is an example.

UTG raises
We flat KQdd from UTG+1
Aggro villain on button squeezes
UTG folds
We tank and then "new york back raise" :D:D with 2 good blockers, a storng range (as we flatted vs UTG we can never have total air) and then shown immensely huge strength. Our range is also not capped at all and he will never 5b bluff us here, we win whats in the middle so often and he may even fold value hands.

Makes sense?

Hey,

It was going really really well actually, I was enjoying it a lot and was pretty cool.

Party eventually shut my account down because I am in Gibraltar and my address is in the UK, it took over 3 months to get sorted so I just sacked it off and went back to playing normally. +EV I guess

4bb/100 is good :)

I would start slowly moving up to NL200, in reality there is very little difference. Just table select well and I'm sure it will be fine.

I would try and play less tables initially when takign a shot and thinking alot before all decisions, sometimes people play too tight and if they ahd thoguth more they would have came to the rational decision and made the correct call/raise, and some players try to force things too much and think that because they are moving up to nl200 everybody plays like isildur and they need to 7b jam every hand, this never goes well :)

Take time, poker will be here today, tomorrow, next week, it doesn't matter exactly when you move up, just make sure you are mentally ready, your bankroll is in a good state and you feel happy about your game.

feel free to post as much questions about nl200 in this thread. I actually said to somebody I think I'm the best nl200 player in the world I really think I can put pressure on in the right spots and understand the game dynamics here so well, making dumb raises and 3bets here where they would get eaten up at nl600.

My main tip would be to try to abuse the tight nits as much as possible, put pressure on them and if they call the turn don't continue bluffing the river.

Make sure your HUD is ready and just have fun! I love playing poker with a smile on my face, bouncing up and down a little bit, listening to music and just having a good time, its not all about the money. Enjoy it and crush!

Hey,

Thanks for the nice words.

Zoom is ok and fun, but playing normal games is where you start to learn poker and you can understand game dynamics and game flow which is what the fun part of poker is about, if you want to get to basics and understand theory and concepts behind poker such as fixing bet sizing and understanding how to read board textures then zoom is best simply because you can put in more volume.

Actually playing in real games will help you develop at being able to play " in games" and be able to learn how to crush regs by abusing game flow and dynamics.

I've never ever bum-hunted in my life and I don't think I've even ever sat out of a game in my life either, I actually struggle to get a lot of action a lot of the time, and will play any reg in world at nl200-600 to get games going.

It's a whole new subject all together but regs sitting out at tables is the most tilting thing for me. I mark everyone of them though and then just 3bet them a tonne when a fish sits as I know they are basically scared to play.
