Manliness
Time to revive ze blog again with a post about... me. I guess. And manliness.
A while ago I found an awesome blog, the Art of Manliness. Some of you probably smile condescendingly when you read this, because manliness is a word that has a silly tone to it today. You picture some douchebag doing stupid things because he thinks it's manly. Winning drinking contests. Pissing contests. Slapping his girl around a bit. Being aggressive towards people to come out looking more manly. You know the kinda stuff I'm talking about.
Atleast, that's what I thought about first when I saw the link to this site. I thought it was going to be full of jokes about how to appear as manly as possible or do manly stuff, like learn how to break down a door (actually could come in handy though :P).
However, the thought of the perfect gentleman has always had charm for me. Now you're laughing again. Alright, I'm not going to walk around in a top-hat and bow to greet every lady I meet with "Enchanté" (if that's how gentlemen greet ladies). But there are certain qualities connected to the perfect gentleman that I admire.
Politeness. Calmness. Charm. Self-sacrifice. Posture. Striving for accomplishments without boasting of it. Being well-read. True to one's word. Speaking meaningfully. Being the kind of person other people listen to. Leaving a legacy. Et cetera
Perhaps I'm not thinking of a perfect gentleman, but of another rather pompous expression, a great man. Something that has occupied my thoughts lately is the thought of how to become someone that other persons might think of as a great man. I said don't laugh! I can't say I've found the answer, but a lot of the subjects Art of Manliness write about are subjects that deal with this issue.
I hate promising more posts, because I never really hold these promises. Something I must amend to be a perfect gentleman. Wait, that's why I stopped promising in the first place. Anyway, when I started writing this post I wanted to write about something completely different, and then I wanted to focus on some big philosophical topic from Art of Manliness... and now here I am without feeling like doing that anymore.
So I'll just leave you with one of the qualities I'd like to have. Commanding a room. This is a great way to start being someone people would like to listen to. Once you have the initial confidence in yourself needed to take the steps towards commanding a room, your confidence will continue to rise when you feel it working. I'm not that bad at this, and I can tell you if you aren't in the habit of commanding the room when you're delivering a presentation at school, or just walking into a room at a house-party, it really is a great feeling and a big confidence boost.
Alrighty. See you around, folks
oh and PERHAPS you might be seeing something from me video-wise in english in a foreseeable future
