Yea I was getting really excited about being finally able to get strategy points, and set up an account on FullTilt, but guess I'm gonna be moving to PartyPoker eventually.

This is the plain truth:

(That made me popular, right?)

[x] Pokersites get more traffic from affiliates.
[x] Players get additional rakeback from affiliates.

Would you like to reconsider your statement?

Don't get me wrong I'm not worried about PokerStrategys wellbeing. I'm selfish and I'm interested in my additional benefits that I get from PokerStrategy- learning material.

Probably the loss (money wise) they get for un-afilliate PS etc is less than the amount of players they will leave FTP. If the un-afilliates cost them 10M each month, while people don't play on FTP will cost them 5M than its a good choice.

Imo software + fishyness of website >>>>>>>> rakeback

Well, who prints all that money that everybody wins? Doesn't make sense dude. I'm still not saying anything popular.

Highly unfair not to honor already made agreements though.

The online poker market is mature and therefore it is now more directed into understanding the needs of their customers rather than to attract hordes of newcomers.

[x] Pokersites got more traffic from affiliates.

This is true in the past tense - nowadays the traffic is more or less saturated and the "gold tush" is over. This is precisely were affiliating sites were useful.

It's over, they don't need it anymore.

That doesn' mean there won't be new players, of course, and this is specifically why they took this step. We should be realistic here - FTP is merely trying to strat off "fresh" and one of their big concerns is surely that they are aware that thousands of sharks are now awaiting D-Day to conquer a virgin land. By taking those steps they hope to discourage heavy grinders, web-sharks and alike and create a fun environment that will potentially atract new players.

Again, it's a clever move.

O no ............ pokerstrategy won't get affiliation money. How bad do I feel right now ..........

Guys, pokerstrategy would not be saying a bad word about fulltilt and their new vip system if fulltilt were still paying them affiliation. They would be saying it is the most fairest thing for everyone and singing it from the rooftops.

WE WILL STILL GET RAKEBACK FROM FULLTILT. Anyone who buys this new line from pokerstrategy and they are now only concerned after learning that THEY WON'T GET AFFILIATION MONEY.

I am not even a regular on ftp even before black friday and I can see through this new stance pokerstrategy have. Wake up and smell the coffee people, we will all be fine.

we believe it is important that we and the players resist any moves that are designed to discriminate against winning players. If such a development starts, there is a high risk that it will continue and get gradually worse over time, with poker being less attractive for serious players.

Out of interest, has Pokerstrategy offered any resistance to the Bwin.party investor paper that list six steps to "optimize the poker ecology," which include:

1.Rebalance player pool in favor of more casual players.
2.Focus on driving and retaining net depositing players.
3.Removal of highest stakes tables.
4.Protecting recreational players from "fish hunting."
5.Rebalance bonus packages in favor of recreational players.
6.Introduce new features to lobby and interface to benefit casual player.

Sadly, too many regs and too few fish are killing the games. The sites need a balance or the games will become too reg infested and ultimately die.

I am not pulling out of FTP because of fidelity to PS, or because I dont get rakeback. I am pulling out because I get rakeback anywhere else + PS points. I like PS points because I get access to good study material that elsewhere I have to pay for.

I couldn't care less about who makes more money, who is cleverer, who is losing, etc. I make the balance in my books, and I don't like what FTP is doing, so I am playing somewhere else. That's all. The rest is all noise :f_biggrin:

By the way, Pokerstrategy also took a lot of criticism for continuing to direct players to FTP after the problems started emerging.

That is a matter of opinion, but I'm not sure it is entirely accurate for Pokerstrategy to be presenting itself as a guardian of the players interests. I think this all has a lot more to do with ensuring the revenue stream.

I can't believe you guys think that regs won't play on FTP just because they don't get some points on some affiliate site. We're here to make money not some stupid points after all. And if full tilt does indeed get more fishy then other sites then obviously everyone's going to play there.

All in all the players really don't lose that much here. Yeah it sucks to lose the status here but really that doesn't give me nearly enough benefits to even consider not playing there. Being able to play on both sites for the best game selection is far superior then watching some vids here.

The only one losing big here is pokerstrategy.com since a lot of the current regs will go back to FTP so thats going to be a big drop of income and it seems like they can't do anything about it.

As far as for Stars doing this, if they are not liable to follow any contracts that Ray Bitar came up with then it they honestly shouldn't, especially if they we're bad for the company. I don't see why everyone see's Stars as some sort of hero that did this for the benefit of the players. They bought FTP because they figured its a +EV move not because they cared so much about your balances.
And if 485.000 players only rake 10$ on average and PS gets 8% of that then they get about 400k a month or 5 million a year that PokerStars doesn't have to pay anymore. Obviously they're going to go for it if their lawyers say they can. It really makes any sense for them not to(apart from being fair).

I imagine pokerstrategy have or are looking at legal options. I guess because it's come this far that option doesn't look too good.

Fulltilt/PS seem to get the best of both worlds, future affiliation recruitment for them, whilst dumping their past obligation.

I doubt players complaining will do much. They will be lost in the wads of cash they are getting instead. But it can't hurt.

I think the biggest angle to work here would be Fulltilt reneging on their deals. If they do this, what else are they capable off? How much business has Crockfords lost after failing to payout Phil Ivey?

Hi ArkhamAsylum,

While we completely understand your feelings towards this mass de-tracking, we do truly believe that this behavior will negatively impact all poker players – some in the short term, all in the long term.

You are right when you say that players will still earn a type of “rakeback”, as Full Tilt issued a press release about a new central loyalty program for their re-launch. However, there are some very important differences in their new program, including the system being tiered instead of a flat percentage, FTP Points now being rewarded on the basis of weighted contributed method (previously points were given on dealt), and the removal of both the Iron Man and Black Card programs.

We are working on a more comprehensive overview that will show exactly what the differences are between their new program and the previous affiliate based rakeback, and hope you take a look once that’s published.

Although you seem to not be satisfied with PokerStrategy.com, and don’t mind if our organization would suffer from this unilateral de-tracking, we are still worried about the negative effects to tracked players. Mainly that they will no longer be able to earn StrategyPoints, which allow them to gain or maintain their status and access to our educational content.

Additionally, we believe this sets a dangerous precedent and could be seen as part of a general industry trend in which poker rooms see educated players as a “necessary evil” as they “extract money from the system”. We are wholeheartedly against any discriminatory moves against serious poker players, and have publicly voiced our opinions on the matter.

If the above points don’t concern you, or they do concern you but you still don’t mind the potentially negative effects, that is perfectly within your entitled right, and we can easily agree to a difference in opinion.

Thanks.

This is actually a *clever* move as it will discourage any grinder to play on FTP - this will effectively soften the player field a lot.

By polarizing PS more towards "pros" and FTP toward "casuals" the owners want to diversify their products by tailoring them for two completely different groups.

Remember one thing - PS may be the leader in real money poker but the true king on the web is still FB Zynga - and there's still a hue pool of players to attract to FTP if you take all steps possible to keep the game as "fun" (= not _cool: ) as possible

Totally agree with you. Even though Pokerstars people (management) try their best to look like a brave knight in this story, "defending poker players", they are still just doing business (trying to turn as much profit as possible).

But still, I appreciate their gesture to "save" former FTP players' money (not saying that I even have any money stuck there).

Step 4: e-mail ftp to say how disappointed I am.

(I think if you are thinking of getting out of FTP for these reasons, then it is good to show your disappointment)

I lived more than a year without FTP. I know how to sort myself out without them FFS.

As if there were not enough fishes in the rest of the Ocean.
