Think back when you didn't know about pot odds, equities or EV. The early days of your poker career. The game was full of excitement, you had adrenaline rush when you got allin, all that stuff. Then you learned about equities, long run, winning strategies etc. and that excitement vanished. Instead you got a lot of expectations, lot of anger when those expectations don't fulfill, lot of frustration, tilting etc.

I still do. I still find everything about this game exciting, especially the part where I win money.

A week of silence.

I started my school this week, and that means 0 played hands. At the start of the next week, I have to learn a whole new concept in my life: daily scheduling.

I have lived most of my life without a personal calendar. I started to use one when I got my iphone last year. But now I have stuff that I just need to get done in time (school, being a poker school coordinator and sports coachings). And I know myself good enough that if I don't make those daily schedules I will procrastinate all the time and burn myself out when the deadlines hit. So it's sort of a personal challenge.

What comes to bacon ice cream, I started to think that it needs something. If I just make vanilla ice cream and put pieces of bacon in there, it doesn't work. As the flavor of bacon will not transfere to the ice cream itself. So it needs something more. What would be a good stuff?

In our school we use 3 letter codes for all the courses. The very first course we had was OOP. I instantly thought "how come we start from oop, isn't that the hardest position?".

Parmesan and ice cream? You gotta be kidding... ;)

If the idea of bacon ice cream sounds strange, Burger King tried one version of it in Tennessee. It became such a hit that they are now going to sell it through out the US.

Too bad we don't have any poker players in our class, I could have said something like "oh man, why do we start from OOP. It's such a pain."

Give me motivation. :)

Weight is still 88kg, which it was at the end of the year. 4 weeks without any improvement. But haven't gained anything, which is nice too. It's time to step up and get back to work. Now it's a lot harder to lose anything, but I want to hit that 80kg mark when the summer comes.

What comes to poker, I have a tendency. The tendency to have every friggin' session in the same way. It starts with about 10 buy-in rapid loss, and then I try to grind myself back up. Sometimes I can, sometimes I don't. But for the past 2 months, nearly every session has been like that. And that's very hard to deal with mentally. And when I look those hands, I can't see any leaks like playing too aggressively/passively at the start of the session, they are all setups, suckouts or known regulars just hitting the top of their range. Like today, people just hit the nuts in 4bet pots (SPR under 1, I have aces) all the time, quads vs. nut fullhouse, straightflush vs. nut flush etc. I can easily deal with those losses, but when 99% of my playing is when I am trying to win lost money back, it sucks. I know I shouldn't think it that way, but I can't help myself. When my session starts with 10 buy-in losses, and I slowly grind it back up, I am constantly aware how much I have lost in the session. And I am just waiting for the moment when my winnings go to green. That is not the most +EV thing to think.

Can I stop watching HEM during the sessions?

Horror sessions. Didn't book a single winning session in January. Yesterday I was close, thought about stopping the session after 300 hands when I was winning. But the games were so good, stayed at the table, and was murdered by VPIP 98 player who's postflop strategy was pot-pot-pot. As I was 200-300bb deep with him, it was VERY +EV situation. Too bad he hit the nuts all the time, and when I was ahead he spiked the 4 outers on river.

Losing the shitloads of money isn't the problem, I am not going broke. But the way I lost really hurts mentally. It feels so impossible to win a flip, or hold up when I have the better hand. Been killed by so many backdoors that it feel expectable when opponent hits it.

I have so much to improve in my mental game.

Going to make lamb tenderloin and cesar salad today. Mmmm....

I made a $$$ -EV decision today. I would need to rake $50 to get a green gemstone, which would be worth of $75 (triple at January). That requires 2,5h of playing. But I'd rather invest in good sleep, and recovering my mental muscle. Cos if I have another losing session now straight away, I know it would feel SOOOOOO bad. So instead of pushing myself to play, I take a day off.

There are ups and downs in poker and life. We have to acknowledge it and go through it.
$EV is important in the long run but feeling good, having confidence in yourself and enjoying at things you do are much more important. Take day off or even two days if needed and then return to playing poker. Thinking more positively and a bit less under pressure makes enjoying experience much greater (and that's often underestimated from poker players).

This is my third post in your blog...just letting you know every next post will cost you - my next post means you owe me 45 min free plo coaching (Not in that game atm but you never know  ). So when flying too high or too low you can expect me dropping by and writing something really clever :f_ugly:

Keep your head up, think positively and have great February! :f_thumbsup:

February started with a coaching session. I dropped to PLO10, lost 8bin in that session, run 5bin under EV and the rest came when I hit the top of opponents ranges all the time. But it was a good session, lots of interesting spots and members got to see that even coaches run bad. I looked through the hands and think that I played well. There were few pretty marginal spots in big pots, and this time the opponents had the hands. But I think that my decisions were slightly +EV.

Like in one pot, one aggressive gambler donk shoves river when backdoor flush hits. I have a set, there is also a straight possibility on the board. Now normally I might fold there, but about 15 minutes earlier I saw that the villain made a big bet on the river in similar spot with 2 pairs. So he definitely has bluffs and worse made hands in his range. Very close spot, as the action was little different than in the hand I saw earlier. And this time he had the flush. A common spot, where you know that most of the villain's range is flushes. But he needs to have around 25% bluffs in his range to justify the call. You just have to estimate is that the case or not, and trust your estimations.

But today is Super Bowl Sunday!!! Can't wait, 7,5 hours...

7.5 hrs to wait and then another 7.5 hrs until there is a winner! :P

I usually get the SuperBowl in but this year I'm not fussed and I won't be watching!

Now it's official, I am going to World Championships of ice hockey! Just paid flights and hotels, they are held in April.

Now those who know something about ice hockey might wonder wtf, cos I am going to Turkey. This is division II championship, participating countries are Mexico, Turkey, Israel, New Zealand, China and Bulgaria. Going to be an epic trip!

I will be making a huge coverage of the trip for our Finnish community. But most of the interviews will be in english, so if someone has any ideas for whom to interview, what to ask, what to do etc. I am more than happy to hear them.

Hah, changed the topic. Nothing crazy anymore, just Turkey.

Have to cross-link a little here. Absolutely free dollar is waiting for someone in here.

Played my first winning session yesterday. But got back to normal run today, -20bin session at Zoom. I've had enough of this shit, withdrew all my money from all the sites except Stars. I have a small Zooming bankroll there, I am determined to beat that friggin' Zoom! But other than that, I am taking my time off from the tables. Have been losing since December (although good rakeback got me overall to almost 10bb/100 winrate) and January was the worst. For this year I have lost around 50 buy-ins, and it's spiralling down. Who cares about EV, can't buy myself anything nice with Sklanskys.

Can you win at Zoom? Yesterday I played 1K hand session, run 4bin under EV. Today I played 1K hand session after work, run 10bin under EV. So sick. At the same time there are so many bad players that I just refuse to go down without a fight. So I will keep trying to beat it. First adjustment is to believe that someone can check-call nuts twice on drawheavy flop.

7K posts appoaching, what is the topic for post number 7000?

What do you know? Next 1K hands session, 3bin under EV. Can anyone spot the pattern? :)

If I keep up this same pace, it's going to be one wild graph at the end of the month!
