I have been playing about with the stats in HM as I want to see if I am getting the luck I deserve...

Now a simple idea may be full of holes, but humour me if you will.

I took this months data on QQ (any combination) which saw a showdown when more than 2 players were in the game (ie not HU). I then looked at the HM pre flop win % and recorded the result.

I get a long list of 87 hands (I discounted 1 which was QQ v QQ) where the average Pre Flop Win % is 65.09%. I have calculated this in excel using the average sum, not anything more fancy. I then used the same average sum on the outcomes, 0 = Lost & 1 = Won. I have not looked at anything else, position, stacks, bubble etc.

I ended up with the average result being 65.51% <--- so I am getting what I deserve, or have I made a big dollop of maths poo and the calcs are out?

I guess the calculation is correct.

I might be wrong but to see how much money you are above/below ev I believe you say average % won - average Pre Flop Win % = x, (x/100)*prize pool*amount of hands = $ev, so if they all are played at $,5 you are running $7,56 above ev with this hand alone.

If someone know this is wrong please correct me.

I played my home games this week and although the turnout was awful it was fun. PS friend Rickie joined in and we took 1, 2 in both the games so happy enough with that.

I had also started the Poker770 PS Freeroll and Daily Dollar tournaments around the same time. I went out of the freeroll in expected fashion but managed to do well in the Daily Dollar. I eventually ended up looking for a spot to shove and got A7 in v KK & JJ which was a shame but out in 7th out of 1065 entrants, for a nice cash :f_biggrin:

As I was enjoying the MTT and my home games I just relaxed and played those while chatting on skype, so no additional volume for the 45s at all.

Was a nice run :) Its a shame the guy who was shoving almost everytime in that spot woke up with a hand but $31 from a $1.10 investment is pretty nice, now go and crush those 45 mans on stars ;)

As for the home games what can I say :( runner runner!! lol

Last night was 'coaching night' with pleno1 and Collin Moshman. I did play a few games on both Stars and Poker770, but I am not counting them in the months volume as 2nl Zoom and some freerolls on iPoker don't count.

I couldn't go deep in the Daily Dollar as I managed to get KQ all in on a KQx flop only to get called by JT who turned a str8, was a shame as I was then left on a short stack and went out soon after.

I was a little disappointed with the Moshman coaching this week. He has been in Vegas sorting out some stuff for his move to Mexico and also working, so a 9man hand review was the theme, but tech difficulties meant the session was constantly interrupted and the sound was up and down throughout meaning I ended up not concentrating on the content enough. It's a pity as i don't grind Wednesdays as the +ev call is to attend the coaching session, this week it was the wrong choice :(

I asked Collin if he would be doing live play next week, the answer is yes, so it should be worth doing again. I am going to ask in the coaching feedback thread for 45man tourneys, hopefully at micro levels, to see how he will approach the issues I face daily.

I have been absent for a couple of reasons, 3 in fact.

1. Work: I got an Interim Management role which was very intense so I didn't play at all for 10 days, I then 'work' through the Cheltenham Festival (horse racing in UK) and finally sorted out a few real life things.

2. I got locked out of my PS account...

3. I am pretty dissolusioned with SNGs. I seem to go through this on a downswing and feel I am about ready to quit again.

Pity as I was really happy for a while last month, but as the beats have piled up the style of play just is not going to be profitable long term IMO. Shoving in the correct spots should be +ev, but I seem to have 2 results, I run ok or badly. When I run ok I make a bit of cash and when I run badly I lose a lot. It is getting to the point where I just can't be bothered playing.

I have been impressed by the coaching here, but I am going to give things a break for a while and have fun playing a LAG style on 6max speed poker on Poker770 instead. I can play short sessions when it suits, not making it feel like a grind and I hope to improve my overall game for when I no doubt return to SNGs in the future. I still see 180mans as a long term aim.

I have been attending and replaying pleno1's coaching on twitch.tv and am starting to impliment his ideas in short bursts with some nice results. It seems whenever I have tried cash games before I would end up calling off river shoves etc, then tilting off a stack or 2. I don't suffer from tilt much now (in game) so will be trying my best to make good choices on 2 speed poker tables.

So far the cash game has been going well with only 2 speed tables open I feel I have time to think about the situations that are coming up...

My goals for now are: enjoy the game and learn what I can :)

Played a couple of very small sessions today, not very motivated to grind during the day as there is not a great amount of traffic on iPoker speed tables at the moment.

Managed to get AA v JJ and flop came JJx... gg luckily the guy was short stacking (or a fish) and only got $1 off me :f_biggrin:

Also managed to convince myself that a squeeze was light and shoved AT only to get looked up by KK :f_mad:

The thing I like most is the overall VPIP on $0.02/$0.05 is around 13% !!!!

This years sessions have worked out at 23/18 with 10% 3Bet & 5.5% 4Bet returning 21bb/100 _love:

Another thing I have noticed is that PTR isn't tracking my Speed Poker hands, I always felt people buying hands would have a great advantage over me in cash so this makes things a lot better, perhaps people will look into their databases and pick me out as an aggro fish soon enough, but for now things are working out well.

You can pretty much do what you want and fold to action on these tables at the moment. I am only playing 2 at a time currently, as I don't want to make too many mistakes. Will see how things go over a large sample to decide the best route, for the moment 2 tables is getting me an average of ~300hands/hour so with a few decent sessions* I will be able to see the 'real' situation.

*sessions are short and sharp at the moment, I am not sure of the reasons, but I am not putting in the grind as I managed when playing 45mans last month, I need to think about things and decide on a realistic volume goal and get on with it.

Tonight is coaching night. So I expect to come out all guns blazing having watched Patrick crushing :)

I attended both pleno1 and Collin Moshmans coaching sessions last night and only played a bit today, but was a nice session of 5nl Speed poker on iPoker.

My volume again was very low, but it isn't that important right now. I am doing well in the Speed Poker format and learning to be aggressive without being an idiot :)

Played: 321 hands
P & L: +$7.90 (158 big blinds)

VPIP was only 17.6% which is not as much as it has been, but I still managed a decent profit so can't complain too much _love:

I have had a busy week so have not been as active as I would like. I have opened an account with 888 which has gone well, 2nd in a freeroll for $50 as well as a few other minor scores has been fun.

I must say the standard of play is poor overall. I have settled on $1-$5 DONs and am getting a few other games in including some of the small buy in MTTs (have a look for their free $20 no deposit offer).

Along with the iPoker speed poker I have been enjoying myself away from Stars. I really feel I get limited luck on there, I am seriously thinking about withdrawing my roll and just playing on the other sites.

My current Speed Poker tats are VPIP 21.6 PFR 16.8 with 9.0 3bet & 5.1 4bet, concentrating my efforts on BTN/CO play.

LUCKY HAND

I had some fun with the speed poker again, no coaching from pleno1 on Wednesday was a pity, but I still pushed the edges a bit :)

99 v KK was my biggest pot having the 9 :diamond: match 4x :diamond: on board to beat the Kings.

I really need to think a bit more in some spots, but happy to have luck help me out on this occasion :)

With it being easter weekend I am on Daddy duty and as such I am not playing a huge amount. I have run a few DONs on 888 and iPoker which were nothing special.

I then had a quick spell on the Speed Poker 5nl and played a bit fast and loose... I loved it !!!

I opened 2 tables with $5 and decided to double or quit on them before I hit the sack.

Session Summary:

Time: 19.5 minutes
Hands: 134
VPIP: 34.1
PFR: 31.1
3Bet: 20.5
4Bet: 0

Total Winnings $8.20

I lost a big pot early which cost $2.20 and then ran up from there...

My best hand was holding 7 :club:7 :diamond: in the big blind BTN called SB filled up and I checked. Flop came 5 :diamond:5 :heart:7 :spade: and I was hoping to get some money in.

Flop:

SB and I check. BTN puts in $0.05 and the SB folds. I think at this point and decide I can flat as being beaten is only possible with 5 :spade:5 :club: and I think he raises pre with pairs. I am hoping a K or A comes and he improves Ax or Kx. I call.

Turn:

2  - I check as I want to see what the BB does, I am hoping he has something to carry on with as I need to start building the pot. He has min bet at each stage so I suspect he will do the same and I can check/raise small. Sure enough he bets $0.05 and I raise to $0.15 he then shoves for $4.86 !!!

Now I am worried about 1 combo of 55 and that's about it, I am not giving up here, he could have a flush draw, A5, K5, 65, 54 or even 22. I call and we have a pot worth $9.97 :)

River:

2 :club: and I scoop the pot v K :spade: 5 :spade: _cool:

I took down a lot of small pots by staying aggressive. These speed tables are very ABC, we can raise every BTN and 3bet every button raise, most of the time you win and if you get any resistance you can fold. It sounds a bit mad but playing ANY face card on the BTN and Ax, Kx and good Qx in the CO works too.

My 3bet stat looks a bit mental at 20.5% but in actuality I 3bet 8 hands and never saw showdown in any of them. My 3bet range was a bit loose, based more on position than cards, ATo, K8o and a few Qx hands. Mostly the idea was to reraise BTN/CO steals and it worked well.

Anyway, I really want to play a long session on this, maybe tonight will be my night _love:

Ha Ha, ok I will look out for you :)

Steal from BTN is 60%+ so you get to keep your blinds at times.

I have just opened a new iPoker Account with 55% rakeback.

My intention was to play enough on Poker770 to maintain a PS status as it is my only tracked account, but at the moment I am only using pleno1's coaching as learning materials and that is free. So I am going to play on the new site exclusively on 5nl Speed Poker with rakeback unless content comes up that requires I play for points again.

Volume has been poor so far, I am thinking a lot more than I did playing SNGs (possibly why I didn't do great) so I am getting tired quicker. I am also guilty of 'locking up the win' where I get a double stack and suddenly fear losing it... is that rational??? I doubt it :f_love:

So goals:

[ ] Play 50k hands minimum in April (2k days should be ok)
[ ] Update blog every day
[ ] Attend pleno1's coaching every Wednesday (watch a twitch replay if coaching cancelled)
[ ] Mark players - develop a simple colour system

Current Speed Poker graph...

Spoiler

Most of the hands above have been played on 2 tables, but some 1 tabling. I feel confident enough on 5nl to try out 4 tables, so willl see how things progress. I don't want to pass up good spots by going on autopilot though :f_mad:

Congratz on the 55% RB ;)

This is my SpeedNL5 with 55% RB..theres so much profit on that game as its high on rake and full of fish.

The RB deal is sick really. I love it...but even though how great it is I do play elsewhere atm
