I am just curious to hear how you guys play your ace-highs on this board. I generally tend to fold A8-A9(or lower if I have reason to call even looser) OTF and I usually opt for just getting to SD with AT and better by checking back OTT. So some questions:

1. Guy 3betting your BTN minraises 15-16% of the time. How loose are you calling ~100bb effective?
2. With this range, what ace highs are you calling OTF?
3. How do you play OTT with these?
4. Against this particular guy how loose are you calling OTF and how are you playing OTT with this range?

Probably a very standard situation, but I am honestly not sure how to play my weakest hands in this spot.

i prefer fold or 4b pf

on the flop, a minraise vs a very wide range can be very interesting

as played, it is ok, even if i'm not convinced by a bet turn

Hey Ilares,

1. Something like ATs+,AJo+,KJs+,KQo,99+. If I wanted to expand this I'm including more hands like suited broadways, KTs/QTs/TJs/9Ts, but avoiding small PPs and low suited connectors. In these spots I am primarily concerned with playability over equity although it does depend on opponent.

2. Basically all of them unless villain had a lowish flop-cbet in 3bet pot. (Most guys cbet way too much here.)

3. Bet when checked to, fold to 2nd barrel. With additional reads you gain additional options such as semi-bluff shoving turn.

4. Against this guy on this flop I'm probably calling with my entire flop range.

1. That range sounds a bit tight imo for defending. I am not sure how loose I can call exactly (which is why I am asking for feedback :P) but I would probably call at least ATo+, A8s/A9s+, KJo+, KTs+, QTs+, 98s+, J9s+, 77+. Too loose?

2. Are you calling your entire preflop range here OTF? Might be reasonable though if you only defend the range you mentioned, but sounds like a lot to me.

3. Not sure I am following you here. What about those stats that you mentioned?

Generally I don't defend this wide, but I don't think it's out of the question either. Really depends what you are going to do with it postflop. Generally speaking without decent reads on opponents postflop game I have a tendency to under-defend preflop which I think works very well.

Imo the only way you will go wrong is if you are trying to defend baby suited connectors and small PPs vs wide 3better.

Generally guys are just cbetting way too much in 3bet pots. Means it ends up being a mistake to give up on flop very often at all. If opponent has a low cbet flop % or a high double-barrel % then it will change my flop calling range. I would instead select hands that can either stand up to a double-barrel or turn enough equity to bluff-raise (or even just bluff-raise flop).

Default assumption vs unknown in 3bet pot is they are cbetting too much and not barreling enough. That makes the optimal strategy vs an unknown to float the flop and bluff the turn if they check. If we assume they have a low 2nd barrel % it means when they do barrel their range is pretty strong.

As soon as you have reads on their postflop betting tendencies, optimal strategy will change of course and you should potentially be continuing vs turn barrels.
