did some more regsearch yesterday, once again i keep being surprised at how bad these people are. i think i just give too much credit to people as a standard. i've got a few other guys i wanna go over as well today so thats my plan. i'm also gunna get another session review done today. might do a general review and then find some sort of filter to run - i'll post some interesting hands in here.

i also have to remember to save some hands for bogdan's coaching on the weekend! i keep forgetting to save up some hands for discussion X(

Hey Lewis!

Nice blog! I agree with you that once one gets to know the regulars it's easy game as most of them are fishes in disguise just redistributing the money from smaller fishes :f_biggrin:

Also, I noticed that you struggle a little bit adjusting to aggressive 3bets. What helped me was knowing my preflop range very well and what hands I defend vs 3bets. This way it became easy folds/calls/4bets from every position. And you don't even need to memorize that but can instead just have a starting hand chart :f_cool:

Good luck!
David

thanks and yeah thats exactly how it seems right now... i was having trouble actually believing this so i decided to analyse one more last night before bed. it keeps giving me trouble and seems to own me. whenever i see it on my table im facepalming because they keep 3betting me/calling my 3bets/calling my 4bets and crushing me postflop... etc! so then i took these notes on it:

Spoiler

- overall, pretty passive with marginal hands but doesnt like folding
- not positionally aware: range = 22+, and all broadways?
- 4x o UTG w/AJ
- 3x o UTG w/88, call IP v3bet
- 3bets merged? TT in bbvutg
- doesn't ISO? didn't ISO OOP w/KJs
- peels light
- doesn't stab with air/gutshot
- as PFA stacked off w/TPTK vs x/MR
- strong donking range (TP+)
- plays draws passively vs aggression
- doesn't bluff busted draws on river
- mpvutg, BIP 1/2 on AA4 w/66
- covmp, !BIP w/air, xdtr Q high
- checked flopped TP OOP unraised pot

some pretty interesting notes - maybe some are useless but i think its ok im not the note master!

about the adjusting to aggressiveness i guess you are right. i do have a problem with it. ive gone my whole time playing poker without really having a calling range OOP. now when people are actually 3betting with an obviously polarised range vs me i'm running into problems without having a calling range. im also really not confident in my play OOP in 3bet pots. i feel like i make too many mistakes to have a calling range, but still sometimes it really hurts me to fold some hands against some guys. this is definitely something i'll work on and i agree i probably need to just plan it out.

thanks for dropping by!

played a session last night after discussing some stuff with keoghh. ended up spewing like a buyin and a half just trying to raise and barrel people off things postflop. it's pretty bad but i ended up even. i should have lost a ton of money and that would have tought me a harder lesson but hey ho.

here's a preview of spew, villain is a complete unknown ofc  :
$0.10/$0.20 No Limit Hold'em Cash, 4 Players

BB: $29.43 (147.1 bb)
CO: $4.91 (24.6 bb)
BTN: $20 (100 bb)
Hero (SB): $28.67 (143.4 bb)

Preflop: Hero is SB with K Q
2 folds, Hero raises to $0.60, BB raises to $2, Hero calls $1.40

Flop: ($4) 6 5 8 (2 players)
Hero checks, BB bets $2.80, Hero calls $2.80

Turn: ($9.60) 4 (2 players)
Hero checks, BB checks

River: ($9.60) 8 (2 players)
Hero bets $6, BB calls $6

Results: $21.60 pot ($1.08 rake)
Final Board: 6 5 8 4 8
BB showed J J and won $20.52 ($9.72 net)
Hero mucked K Q and lost (-$10.80 net)

yeah... i won't even try to justify any of this

ok so spews aside, here is a real hand:

Poker Stars, $0.10/$0.25 No Limit Hold'em Cash, 6 Players

BTN: $49.11 (196.4 bb)
SB: $22 (88 bb)
BB: $36.29 (145.2 bb)
UTG: $25.10 (100.4 bb)
MP: $28.64 (114.6 bb)
Hero (CO): $25 (100 bb)

Preflop: Hero is CO with K J
2 folds, Hero raises to $0.75, BTN calls $0.75, 2 folds

Flop: ($1.85) 2 Q 8 (2 players)
Hero bets $1.20, BTN calls $1.20

Turn: ($4.25) T (2 players)
Hero bets $2.90, BTN calls $2.90

River: ($10.05) 9 (2 players)
Hero bets how much?!

i have like $20 behind and i need that money into the middle.
a) overbet ship, target Jx and maybe get some surprising hero call by a slowplayed set
b) bet like $3.75 and be sure to get raised (i hope...) by Jx, maybe some bluffs, and hero called by some really weak hands.

here is how the hand actually played out tho... i dont like my river play:

Spoiler

BTN: $49.11 (196.4 bb)
SB: $22 (88 bb)
BB: $36.29 (145.2 bb)
UTG: $25.10 (100.4 bb)
MP: $28.64 (114.6 bb)
Hero (CO): $25 (100 bb)

Preflop: Hero is CO with K J
2 folds, Hero raises to $0.75, BTN calls $0.75, 2 folds

Flop: ($1.85) 2 Q 8 (2 players)
Hero bets $1.20, BTN calls $1.20

Turn: ($4.25) T (2 players)
Hero bets $2.90, BTN calls $2.90

River: ($10.05) 9 (2 players)
Hero bets $10.60, BTN raises to $44.26 and is all-in, Hero calls $9.55 and is all-in

Results: $50.35 pot ($2.00 rake)
Final Board: 2 Q 8 T 9
BTN showed J Q and lost (-$25 net)
Hero showed K J and won $48.35 ($23.35 net)

tbh it doesn't really matter how much you bet you are talking inelastic range here. Most case I would just shove the river. You could bet like $6 if you think he would call like QT or so.

well Jx is a small part of his range so i prefer a small bet to get called by worse than that. maybe $3.75 is unnecessary and i can still get called when i bet $6... but then if i do that will he raise with Jx when i bet this big?

i meant to say villain was an unknown.

vs complete unknown, I like just like betting around 60%-80% hoping to get raised in case he is somekind of spewtard or get a call from QT type kind of hands. betting sthing like 3.5 is sexy though if you have a tiny bit of info, only problem is that we don't like to give 2p+ a cheap showdown, and we are only getting raised by a Jx, chop or a total bluff wich would require some balls.
you could go for the good old overbet shove too, but that would be too optimistic and we miss a ton of value vs anyone with half a brain, but it has to be done sometimes for balance or whatever, or just the hell of it, overbeting is just fun :f_biggrin:.

heh yeah. i thought about overbetting, was about to do it but then it felt too optimistic at the time. seems like his range contains a decent amt of weaker hands that would probably just fold, and Jx might ship over it anyway so i dont miss value from that...

not really sure what to make of 2pair/sets - i would expect these to raise the turn at the latest.

betting pot=< overbetting, so if you wanna go for fat value, it is much beter to overbet I think

I don't think 2p calls pot or near pot bet, maybe some set sometimes if he ever has it here. I think I most like small bet/jam since no Jx can help themselves raising river, and maybe still 2p call for some value. Don't really know why people say over-bet, since Jx raises small bet 99% of time.

I think that you get a lot of passive players that wont raise without the absolute nuts but will call any size bet with a J here. Any thinking player would think that a J would only get called by at best a split and therefore would not raise to save on rake, just for example.

I think that a 60% bet could have a good ev for 2 pair+ if it si the range you put him on. However a 35% raise could have a call from TP / raise from some bluffs and maybe even 2 pairs and sets from very agro bad players , raise from any J, call

you have a very good point there. but from my experience, your every day weak tight fish/reg will call probably any amount ranging from 50% to 80% wiith 2p+ there, he won't think much about, just "omfg i has 2pairz i callz", so against a COMPLETE unknown, I'd go for a 60%-80% bet size, with more info, even a little tiny bit of info, it could be another story.

I'm not sure Jx will always raise vs 60-80% sizing though. I'm with ains21 here, I expect people to raise the straight vs smallish bet. Also I believe it will get called often by worse hands too just because it's so small and "aaargh always these awful rivers, tilt call!"

i have such a bad mindset leak! i played 180 hands today, made 1 BI and thought "that's it, job done - i'm finished for the day". i was thinking about it and it actually just boils down to fear i guess. i think i'm scared of losing money so once i've made a small profit i'm happy to quit and stop playing in case it turns around and i lose it somehow. at the other extreme, whenever i'm having a crap session i'm happy to play for hours (to try and turn it around). it's so bad, so results oriented and so fishy but i'm having problems flipping this on its head. it should be the opposite! i should be quitting my bad sessions and continuing with my good ones...

i say all of this but i don't consciously think to myself "made some profit, time to quit!", or "damn i'm having such a shit session, i have to keep playing to make it a winning one!". it's all out of my control. all i know is whenever im winning i feel this overwhelming urge to just stop playing! have to really work on this.

decided to continue playing last night after i realised i was being a pussy, ended up making another couple BI before i started spewing so i quit after that. and i played a few hands today but got tilted when my internet shut down so i decided to leave it for now. i'm going to do some more reading about programming this evening as well as go for another session.

since im being a fish with volume i'm going to set myself another goal for this month to try and reach at least 30k hands. should be fine since im playing speed poker and it will at least help to finish clearing my bonus. i think once i've cleared this one at coral i might stay playing there until i get bored of this crappy luminous blue that is always in my face. they should really at least give users the option of customising the design like pretty much every other poker room _evil: can't complain tho because only good things have happened since i started playing there. i'll probably deposit on gala after this and whore some money there because i can't see myself playing @ gala or coral in the future. most likely if i play on ipoker in the future it will be titan or something.

i'm also gunna analyse a couple more regs who have appeared with nice samples it really is quite fun to do so i definitely recommend it!

damn it so much spew in the last few days, quite disappointed with myself but there was obv a reason why i have turned into a monkey so i'll analyse a bunch of hands. will post some maybe later.

atm im pretty happy because i have 25 or so BI for nl50... slightly tempted to take some shots if i see fishy tables but i've already tried it, too much of a pussy for that i'll leave it til i have at least 30 or so BI, preferably with a solid winning sample on nl20/nl25.

ty and i'll take some very light shots only when the tables look good.

i've decided now that i've analysed a bunch of regs from my limit to the point where i need to wait for more samples, i'm gunna run some hm2 filters and start studying my game in some detail.

my focus for the next few days will be playing from the BB. so i've ran the following filter: vpip=true and position = BB. i'm not doing terribly but imo i should work on this. i checked out the report for hand groupings and i see my biggest losers/winners. i'll study them now and get to the bottom of where i'm losing the most. i'll try to post some hands. here is a preview

Poker Stars, $0.05/$0.10 No Limit Hold'em Cash, 6 Players

BTN: $10.34 (103.4 bb)
SB: $25.21 (252.1 bb)
Hero (BB): $10 (100 bb)
UTG: $10.08 (100.8 bb)
MP: $3.55 (35.5 bb)
CO: $15.63 (156.3 bb)

Preflop: Hero is BB with Q 9
3 folds, BTN raises to $0.25, SB folds, Hero calls $0.15

Flop: ($0.55) T 8 8 (2 players)
Hero checks, BTN bets $0.30, Hero calls $0.30

Turn: ($1.15) 5 (2 players)
Hero checks, BTN bets $0.70, Hero raises to $1.90, BTN calls $1.20

River: ($4.95) 2 (2 players)
Hero bets $3, BTN calls $3

Results:

Spoiler

$10.95 pot ($0.49 rake)
Final Board: T 8 8 5 2
BTN showed T K and won $10.46 ($5.01 net)
Hero showed Q 9 and lost (-$5.45 net)

ofc i should just say these hands happened a long time ago! but no excuses for spew. first hands im gunna focus on are Axs because i'm playing these the most, followed by SCs. sample will be the best with these.
