Saw some people commenting about a Doc.Lemon at 2p2. Decided I'd check out if there was much information regarding this player online. Turns out he has his own thread on Pokerstrategy.com ;)

Lemon, I know you probably get this a lot, but what's the best piece of advice you could give for someone looking to grind their roll up from 2nl to 25nl? What made you such a good player for these stakes?

Best of luck!

Alright guys, bad day today spewed money @zoom so decided to write a random ramble ima copy from my blog too:

The importance of positive attitude.

During my over a yearlong sales “career” there was one thing that was by far the most important – positive attitude. In sales you face a lot of setbacks in the form of rejection. Sometimes even 96% sales attempts don’t go well because people don’t need what you sell, can’t afford it, don’t trust you or you plain used the wrong approach or you asked one wrong question. But even with 4% conversion rate you make a good living.
Now why is positive attitude important in a profession where you deal with a lot of setbacks?
Well in sales, you’d simply make more sales as nobody want to talk to a depressed dude with a frown on his face. But what was the real importance of attitude and what made the difference between the short comers and the people that stayed on and were successful was the effect of the true inner positive attitude – perseverance.
Because when you stay positive and you believe in what you are doing and you know it will lead you to the goals that you set for yourself you just don’t give up, no matter how many setbacks face you keep working hard, keep working on getting better and what’s more – you are enjoying the process itself.

Now I always imagined my attitude as an inner canister that gets depleted with every setback, every negative thing that happens, and gets replenished when positive things happen. Using immense computational power of the most modern computers I have analysed this thought and can bring you the results of my scientific approach in the form of the following diagrams:

Stage one: your cup is full
Remember last night? It was your first threesome. One of them was Asian. You just found out that you win the 25k AI shootout on stars. Your parents called, they overnight studied mathematics of poker and only now realize you have the most noble, not at all gambling like profession in the world and they are proud of you choosing dropping out of college.
Now your attitude is way there, you are confident, positive yet strangely in control. You went to a club and tried the most awesomest chat up line “feel my shirt –can you feel that? Yeah baby. Boyfriend material” while flashing your manly hair fluffy 150kg body. 10 girls told you to fuckoff yet you didn’t flinch.

Stage two half emptyfull
Well you woke up alone, had an okay breakfast, missed the bus but no big deal.
You go through your day as usual, nothing creative comes out of you your work just to do what you got to do and it feels fine. But then...

Stage 3
You skipped breakfast and decide to eat entire KFC bucket to “catch up”. Open your cashier – 2k is missing. Your mum called – did you get a normal job yet so we didn’t waste our money on your education? But wait it gets worse. You open the ROFL thread as every morning – all reposts. What’s more, you just found out that your revolver doesn’t fit her holster
Our attitude is really down now, any setback just sends you into frenzy or depression, everything seems forced you feel beat and don’t want to do anything.

Stage 4
Well it was too much, so many negatives that you depleted your reserves and you became this :

And we all know how that ends.

The fuck is your point man
Well why do I tell you this? I tell you that because poker, very much like sales, is one of the professions that actively drain your attitude. Human brain is dumb not logical, and no matter what you do the pain from lossed will always be higher than the gain from wins:

Spoiler

In other words, you are facing setbacks hundreds of time every day in your profession that deplete your attitude, your cup is being drained and as you all know if something external adds to that your results directly suffer. There are many processes that have influence on your performance but one thing setbacks have an effect on are the levels of neurotransmitters in your brain and you can fall into the vicious circle of setbacks causing lowering positive attitude and the processes in the body behind it and worse attitude causing setbacks as you lose control more often, give up faster and stop believing in what you are doing. You can just look at poker forums and you shall find all the negativity you need.

What to do
Well I’m not your doctor? This is my random midnight ramble of an idea that just popped into my mind from a career I failed in because I lost my attitude. But I was always a super depressed person and now I can act normally, and even be one of the best people to be around when I manage to get my attitude cup. Things that work for me are generally those that are believed to raise the levels of neurotransmitters like serotonin in the brain – cardio vascular exercise, healthy carbs throughout the day, a social contact, but also accepting who I am and where I am, not being friends with negative people and instead of watching news reading a good book, or constructive audio. The most difficult part is not knowing what to do – but doing it regularly, as with depleted attitude comes depleted self-control and people that always have their cups that do things right keep moving forward keep refilling their attitude cup and those that come near depletion often struggle to summon enough energy to keep it at present levels and not allowing it drop and balance every new bad beat, every new setback in life with something positive that will help keep the balance.

So the question I have for you is – how do you regain positive attitude?
How do you keep going when thing are rough?
What tips do you have that people that are down from the latest downswing/regulation lockdown/too tight vagina discovery could use?

Man that's my biggest problem I am too good at these stakes and struggle to find motivation to move up

- table selection is important as the rake is huge
- thinking hard about every hand is important as well. When you aren't winning and you play part time, drop down to 4 tables and observe every single hand and think about why people do stuff and do it yourself. The reason I beat the NL16 ish limit for such a big winrate is that I take super exploitative lines against people, know how they play and use it against them. I tried Zoom and I would suck at it with my normal approach. I suck at playing vs generic regs. Where I am good is exploiting weak players and players with loads of imbalances in their game, I make fast adjustments and exploit obvious leaks well.

But tbh when you want to move up you can't count on that forever as especially regs are getting better and rarely have blatant mistakes in their games and there is less and less fish - the approach I am taking right now is instead of focusing on the bad players is on a solid overall strategy. When my attitude is at full and I play my A game I consider the opponent, his likely range and then formulate my strategy with all my holdings (do I want to have draws in my range vs hs range and what ae the worst ones - do I want my range to be value heavy or bluff heavy - can I use exploitative sizing or do I need to balance against the guy) that way you entered one spot, but it's like coming up with a complete strategy with all hands that through repetition get simprinted into your brain (muscle memory, unconscious competence, autopilot, System 1 according to Kahneman nobel paper, the force according to Obi-Wan). I remember the biggest improvements came when I was doing both - watching and thinking about all pots that happened between any player at the table AND thinking about what strategy I want to use. in specific spots against specific player before acting with my 2 cards. I have just only rediscovered that this is what I was doing during my rapid climb when I started when I was pokering 70hr/week when I started and that is what I lost while playing for fun next to work.

Actually SHeepMoose, Challenge Accepted!
Ran hot last week, think it won't hurt to lower volume this one and focus on getting better. There's always last two weeks to grind rent money.

Time Goal: 30hours
Table Goal: maximum 4 tables
Session length: maximum 60 minutes
Limits: NL25 minimum.

If I figure a way to do it, I'll post a youtube vid on what I consider proper low tabling.

This week very low volume - went out with a friend on Wednesday, legendary night indeed. Russian exchange students, 60y old DJ, foosball, rum shots, 3AM Bus Driver staff bus that took us around the whole town picking up drivers, funny lady going to work as train technician 4am and a non stop bar until 5.

Yesterday my 90y old aunt visited so showed her finally that this is a job and not just fun, think showing someone semi- intelligent mathematics of poker and 1mil hand graph actually works :O

today I am off to play floorball over the weekend - 2 matches total sat sunday like 350km journey.

So far I finished 13ish hours from my challenge, it's pretty difficult I must say; 4 tabling takes more focus than 10-12 for sure.

Won't hit my goal of 40hours - goodbye floorball shoes. I listened to Jack Canfield to refill my attitude canister today and he says.
- Never have regrets, never beat yourself up for anything. Instead of saying to yourself "I am lazy" just think in terms of "up until now" and then tell yourself what you want to be in the future.

I defo was drinking too much during the week and next week I have some huge goals to hit.

You know what they say: Better to take a shot and fail than never take it at all and live with regrets.

wow played rly bad so far this week and ran bad too sorry for lack of updates im trying to put in huge volume and grind through it this time around instead of procrastinating. I'll post a weekend update or whenever I recover ;p

EDIT: AAAnd..Kaplow hard work pays off!
13k hand stretch during which I lost 10BI across NL50 NL25 NL16... I just decided to fuck taking a break, screw procrastinating...Ima move down to NL16 and fire efing through it. 7.5hrs average last 3 days.

7 Hour day today:

I'm on track for platinum at pokerstrategy next month, I plan on attending that academy baby Won't even hit the upgrade - just straight up make platinum.

Also watched Alan Jackson's vid on defending v 3bets - surprised me that he prefers call stuff like 67s-T9s over QJs KTs... they get you in trouble a lot more I agree but I'm really unsure about that. Hope Uri sheds some light on that tonight during coaching :P

I feel great physically at trainings, getting back to the levels I used to be at ages ago I'm once again that freaking jumping gazelle in goals diving fearlessly to stop every ball. Struggling to find a gym buddy that can workout in working hours tho, how ya guyys deal with that? there's no poker players where I live.

Howgh boys, it's gonna be an epic weekend!
