You asked what advice I would give a NL100 player who 4 tables and wants to climb to midstakes. You also mention you play about 40k hands/month.

I think your volume is very good if you 4 table standard ring games and not Rush/Zoom/Speed. To play higher you have to do what you've done up to NL100: Improve!

You have to improve your understanding of the game, both technical, mental and any other factors you think might be part of it. The better you want to become, the more you have to tailor your life to have poker a priority. As a small example: random parties instead of dedicated grinding won't get you to midstakes. I think of partying/travelling/etc as an investment in my happiness that will help me increase my focus, my dedication. Partying every day, travelling everywhere is not my goal though.

You have to find an idea of what you want to be and how you see yourself fitting in the world and follow that path. If being a very strong poker player is what you think you want then dedicate most of your time to it and also reflect on HOW you dedicate it. Many players spend 200hours/month playing and forgetting to reflect on their game, their mental state, on their life. Don't be that type of grinder. If you learn by playing then sure, but you still reflect. You don't have to actively stop playing and review hands (although I think 90% or more people learn better if they add that to their learning).

Question all your decisions and don't doubt your abilities.

Oh, sidenote: I used goal since it fits better with poker but it's likely that purpose is a better fit in general. I don't like goals, they always change and are also a limitation in and of themselves.
