Well I achieved my trifling goals. So grats to me! I hit plat and can now join in the bootcamp. I spent a lot of time this month on attempting to get better away from the tables. I think it really helped out and there is certainly far, far more I can do in this area. But for now I think the biggest thing I need to work on is volume.

I've been thinking about where I want my poker to go in 2014 and have come up with the following goal for next year.

500,000 hands at nl500+ (at far better than breakeven)

To achieve this, I think I should be comfortable at nl500 with 5 or 6 months to go. So I have 7 or 8 months where I have to get on my bike and put in some volume and also continue to work hard off the tables to get there.
If I get to nl500 and win well there, this would be tragic with the amount of volume I currently put in. So this needs to change.

My december has the theme of building habits.

Decembers goal is to play 100k hands in regular time intervals.

I can play 700/hands hour comfortably. So playing 5 days a week I need to play 6.5 hours/day. I've broken this down into 2 sessions, with a 30 min break in between.
I can play more at other times if I feel like it.

The other sub goal for December is to run at least 6 out of 7 days per week and 2 or 3 gym sessions per week. This time last year I was doing that, but the last 5 months or so, I've had a bit of a rest and only been running about 3 times a week and no gym sessions. My fitness and energy levels have dropped off dramatically. 30 days and this will be a habit.

These goals will take up a little more of my time, but I'll still have plenty of time to take care of other responsibilities and socialize. And let's face it, it's not time I can't take away from leisure activities such as playing dota or browsing reddit.

On that note, I'm off to play my last game of dota for the year before it's deleted for the month.

Non poker related post.

For those that don't know, probably most, about 10 years ago I got halfway through an economics phd (bubbles and stuff), before quitting to spend more time doing similar things but actually getting paid. Having spent some time studying historical bubbles, I also got to see the tech bubble and real estate bubbles pretty close up. So if you don't care about that stuff you may wish to skip this post.

I think there are two bubbles going around at the moment. The first one is social media, stuff like myspace, bebo, facebook, twitter, linkdn & all that jazz and especially mobile advertising. That these are a bubble is debatable, some might actually turn out to have value. But I'm going with bubble or at least grossly over valued and favoured right now.

The second one, and by far the best, is bitcoins. How anyone can think that these are a legitimate is amazing. Everyone is coming out of the woodwork exclaiming that bitcoins are the next best thing since sliced bread. Unbelievable.

In an event of extreme irony, Greenspan yesterday hit the nail on the head in the following interview. For a currency to be a store of wealth it must have some intrinsic value. i.e. be backed by something, such as gold, honorable & trustworthy people with a lot to lose if they aren't honorable & trustworthy, goons with guns (governments). Bitcoins have zero intrinsic value. They are literally worth less than tulips during tulip mania!

Not only that, bitcoins with their 'harder to mine as time goes by' release system is like a 'how to' example for a pyramid scheme.

The funnest thing about bubbles is that it's very, very hard to predict how stupid they can get. They're far easier to trade on the way up, than the way down. Because when they break, they collapse hard and fast. And in the digital age, even faster.
Having said that, when the public starts to jump on the bandwagon, it's almost always getting towards the end.

I think they look like they're good for at least one more pop up. Maybe to say 1700-1800. The thing with stuff like this is to try and imagine how stupid things could get and then multiply that by an order of magnitude. They might even hit 3, 4 or 11k before their inevitable drop to zero.

I bought a few bitcoins today for a bit of a play, with the idea that things aren't over yet. If we get a spike above new highs I've got some sell orders in from 1500-1800. Then we'll see what the situation is at the time. If it can hold up for say, 3 or 4 days to a week, above the current high, then I'll be looking for a completely moronic, idiotic move to new levels of stupidity.

I'd love short and trade the collapse. And I will try, but it will be hard. There are no liquid options markets available so, I can't put any longer term & sensibly risked trades on. One has to just hit the market price.
I think my best chance is if we got a plateau (or very slightly ascending market) in price at all times highs for about a month. Which occurs with some simultaneously euphoric news and public participation. That's how these things usually go. The garbage on it's last legs is passed onto the naive public over a month or so days before it goes completely rotten.

Has snowie updated their software or smth? I dont recall u could put in ranges. Only that it shows u how it should have been played?

The way I understand it, is snowie is constantly grinding billions and billions of hands. The client one logs into hooks up to a daily (or perhaps some other timeframe) update of the latest and greatest snowie solution.

Oh, thats not what you were asking. Yeah snowie probably has updated since you tried it. YOu can now put in ranges and see how snowie plays it's entire range in a given situation. You can also alter all parameters of the hand and see how snowie plays it's range in those situations too. Pretty nice really.

I've been eyeing this week off for the double strategy points.

Got in 5k hands @nl100, which amounts to about 1500 strategy points. Was going pretty well, was up 5 or so buyins but then ran into some unfortunate spots. Still ended up a few buyins mainly because of my skill at winning flips. ♠_cool:

Less work off the tables as I'm opting to put more volume in this month instead. Slightly behind on the goal of 100k hands, but I'm happy with volume so far. It would be nice if I could keep the rungood going (11bb/100 @ nl100 so far, ty boomswitch ♠_biggrin: )and stay at nl100 for the rest of the month. Then I'd be able to knock off my FDB a month earlier than anticipated, which would amount to about 3k rakeback when combined with the other rakeback bonuses.

I booked some coachings with oblioo to start next year. Looking forward to that. My red line is setting speed records tunneling to the centre of the earth.
