Hello mate. Im just finishing at work and will try and get on at a reasonable hour
Had another relatively productive session last night that went on for a bit too long.
I finished up around 4am and the last couple of hours I was just on autopilot using no higher brain function and playing super nitty, just buying my time as there were fish everywhere and you were going to get paid off no matter how tight you played.
It was the first time I had used the HM app Table Scanner and despite not really looking at the settings, found it does what it says on the tin and will be using it in future.
Avataren and me had quite a long debate on why I had adopted a less aggressive approach with an ever declining PFR. He said I'm scared to raise which is not true, I just don't think raising in early-mid position at 5/10 with anything which isn't either a made hand or in late a speculative hand is a good idea, as if you are trying to get people out the hand you won't and if you are simply raising for equity then unless you are in late position again you may end up paying far more bets against many more opponents then you intended and not being ahead as much as you thought you'd be.
I feel like I need to step up in stakes for my game to develop all round but I'm not taking any chances with BR so whilst I'm at the 5/10 I am going to put some serious effort into the maths I will be relying on in the future and have a couple of books on the subject but am really tempted to get the Ace Poker Drills Combo. I've read a lot of good things about them and I like the idea behind them, it's just there have been mixed reports on 2+2 which I always take with a pinch of salt anyway and I have accumulated so many poker books and software the last month that I don't want to be spending much more money even though they are not particularly expensive. I just want to try and keep this hobby as cheap as possible and so far with bonuses etc it is paying for itself which makes it even better of course.
So I will be getting the combo I guess ![]()
I am reading an interesting combination of poker books including the intelligent poker player which is great too read at the same time as books on the fundamentals as the contrast really makes you think and has been an encouraging influence in embracing the dreaded maths. GTO or Exploitive? A bit of both I think ![]()
I think I will have a day or two off playing as I don't want it to become repetitive and when I am not playing I am spending a significant amount of time reading one book or another so it's not wasted time and when I get back playing I'm keen with a completely different understanding of strategy
Another new BR high and i'm running at 4.39BB/100 so must be in for a cooler.
its true that at 5/10c you can basically play any kind of nitty style and win. But what it does if you dont practice a better game now at these stakes is that you wont be prepared for the higher stakes and It will cost you more in the long run to learn a new and improved game that can beat the higher stakes . so better practice it now than when it gets expensive am i wrong ?
yes 15 pfr is too low and always will be these days.
You can profitably raise KQ from the HJ without problems even with all the calls which only makes it better because its bad players i told you that already.
I totally agree with what you are saying and I know this style does not work at the higher levels. You have seen that I can play more aggressively and profitably so thats not the problem. It is more the case of it being very late at night, too many fish prepared to play Atcs for multiple raises and making the decisions extremely easy in multiway pots come the flop.
I really do want to play optimally and that's what I am studying to do but if there is easy money about and the session is already many hours in then why not skip the thin value, get some volume in and take the profits.
I trust myself to be able to adapt to tighter players and increase aggression. I will play tomorrow in the day where it's always tighter and will be raising more. Perhaps not quite as much as you would like but we will see.

prepare a video for us to watch or tell me when i can watch live. I know we already talked about this but do it and let see how we can optimize your game a bit.
next step but really important step (taking what you said in the lhe homegames thread) STOP reading Ed Miller. You won't learn anything from it anymore. Let me send you some material next time you can get your lazy ass on skype and allowed by the wife.
Well I did infact adopt a much more aggressive prefop strategy but got butchered by the fish. I know it will play out in the end but it's always annoying. I can't promise to stop reading Ed miller as I personally think he knows his stuff. Im off to London today but will get you that equilab work done over the weekend whilst im at work lol.
I need to do at lot of work on my post flop game, I know that.
We will get the live play done Sunday or Monday.
