just watched book keeping from sean lefort at runitonce
i learnt that
1. our c/r range on the flop should consist of 50% value and 50% bluff (where our bluffs can turn into value like SD GS nut BD etc)
we need to think about the top of the range we want to use as our bluffs, since there are usually many bluffs we can use, espiecally on the river, so we want to use the best ones for example like A and K that blocks the flush draw there which basically eliminates 75% of the entire bluff range (which is usually too much).
i intend to spend an average of something like 30mins everyday together with about 5-6 hours of play, and about another 15-30 minutes reviewing my own hand history.
at first i thought my game was pretty ok at nl100, and i was VERY WRONG.
i quick analysis of my game showed that for the past 5 months my BU win rate was somewhere along the lines of my CO win rate which was something like 22-23bb/100, and when i compared that to a few friends who were consistently getting 25-28++/100, i realised clearly something was wrong with my BU.
my assumption that i was competent in the BU for the past 5 months was a fucking big mistake. i realised that hands like A2-A5s which i were 3betting were actually losing money and doing worse than if i folded them, and interestingly enough they did well as calls. and apparently everyone already knew this except for me.

thought this hand was pretty cool, i dont often do this, i figured sets/2p was raising the turn, and on the river Ax is not betting unless it was like AJ (i block AJ) and hes unlikely to slowplay his straight/sets.
i have been watching an hour of video daily and made many marginal improvements in my life, i will list them as i recall
1. slept earlier at 12 midnight instead of 5am, and brought it earlier to 11pm and aiming at 10pm tonight. i realise i work best in the morning/afternoon and at night it sucks for me, i feel like crap and poker is crap too since i cannot think properly.
2. swimming in the morning 10 laps everyday instead of the occasional once or twice a week swim some where around 7-8pm. i realised the swim really helps me to focus. the swim is expensive though, it takes up close to 2 hours of my time, and this is cut out from poker play. but i figured that this was an investment i have to make because if i do not swim/exercise in some way, i cannot focus and the hours of poker can sometimes be counter productive. and of course when i swim i feel alert and happy.
3. ate breakfast 1 hour before swim or intensive activity. i used to eat and swim straight away. i didnt really notice the difference because i never used to put in effort into exercise for the past maybe 3-4 years. i realised that this meal sort of affects my stamina and ability to exercise so instead of eating and swimming, i now slot a 1 hour poker video session in between. of course it would be better to watch later in the day, but what else is good to do in this one hour?
4. bought a pair of anti-fog goggles, i adjust my goggles about 10-20 times during a swim, each adjustment probably takes like 10 seconds, so that is some time saved.
5. forced breaks/games. i take a 5min break to play a quick game every 20-30mins of poker i play. this 5mins enables me to re focus on poker, "clean up" the bad beat feels because the focus was taken away for a brief moment, and enables me to keep playing poker for prolonged periods of time.
6. changed poker playing time to the morning/afternoon. i realised i dont play well at night so i make it a point to NOT play at night, its more productive to sit down and watch movies than play poker because i am not in the best mind and the losses affects me and screws up the rest of the day.
7. planned entertainment. i make sure every 2-3 days i will go out for some form of entertainment, could be a simple meal, movie or meeting with a friend. this helps to meet my "human needs" and i dont feel "hungry" for these meetings which allows me to be happy, and at the same time able to put the energy on poker. and when i actually make money i can see the link to an increased entertainment.
8. bought multivitamins, fish oil, cholerella, vitamin C. these vitamins keep my body at a better form and less likely to fall sick and promotes an alert mind, i take them every morning. im in the process of finding out what helps the brain to function better and helps the body to stay healthy. i still dont eat fruits and vegetables, maybe a little, but they just make me sick so this is my alternative adjustment. forcing myself to eat vegetables simply screws up the system because i will then avoid eating it altogether, compared to small quantities here and there.
Nice self-reflection! ♠_thumbsup: ♠_thumbsup:

What do u mean with a quick game? Just a random browsergame or something away from the computer?
Hi,
i was trying to represent a set/2p, something like 55 66 going for value, hoping he folds his Ax like AT AJ etc. if he actually had 2p or better he would have jammed the turn, and Ax was not betting river unless it was a AJ, and i block AJ.
quick game means something away from the computer, actually its clash of clans on android. a login takes 5mins, around 2-3 minutes to attack, and another 1 minute to train my troops and another minute to say hello to everyone there. tried a few games but this is the only one that meets the requirements of being good enough to take my attention away from poker, yet for not too long, and not captivated enough to actually delay poker for the game.
the routine sort of screwed up a little on the 20 and 21 December today,
on the 20 December i decided to go for some unhealthy fried food in Malaysia my neighboring country, ending up with an uncomfortable stomach and sleeping at 3am instead of my desired 10-11pm scheudle, waking up the next day on 20 feeling unfit to play poker.
i think it was a good choice to NOT play poker on the 20, because poker unlike other jobs, can actually be negative EV, which means we can lose money if we play while we are not at our best for example drunk/tired or something. so i decided to spend 3pm-10pm on 20 december to do something else i needed to do anyway, but using the "less productive" range of my time which was barely good enough to play poker, but good enough to do many other things. so i went to meet my friend edwin to buy some clothes and walk around and enjoy myself.
today on the 21, i set an alarm at 630am, it rang but i went back to sleep, not sure if this action was sort of affected by the previous day's "failure to wake on target time". and ended up waking at 12pm today, but decided to go for the swim before i start my poker session. i realised the swim was really important for poker, although it may seem unproductive, it really preps up the brain and body to perform better, so one hour of poker after swimming is probably worth something like 2-3 hours without swim or maybe more.
i guess 630am is too early so ill go back to the tried and tested 730am and maybe bring it forward 15mins every week.
Thank you for the quick answers ♠_thumbsup: ♠_thumbsup:

I made just 5mins every week for a few month and this slow progressing towards earlier wake up times really helped me a lot! GL with it

thanks apparently it got worse and i started waking even later, lols. lets see how i can work on it, im still sticking to my general plan of how many hours poker i should play and how many i should study, but fixed routines,,, is really hard to follow although i would like to.
some things i learnt in the past few days
1. sean lefort mentioned a 100% 3bet range of 15% in Sb vs BU, apparently lucas greenwood is also using a 100% 3bet range in the SB vs BU. i wonder if this is actually the best strategy? or is it just easier to play? i seen many people call in the SB profitably.
2. i realised i did not adjust my ranges in the BB for smaller bet sizings. for example Q6s can actually be called profitably BB vs MP against a min raise, and T6o can also be called profitably against a wider CO min raise, just like playing against the BU.
3. apparently my swimming is not helping out as much as i thought it was, although it did help, as such i will be reducing frequency of swimming to maybe 1-2 times a week instead of everyday. it has a high cost of 3 hours each time although its important but eats too much time away.
4. my poker skills is very much worse than i thought it was, at least proven through the simple/easy things i just learnt and apparently did not know. as such i would be dedicating more time and better time to studying. i used to study something like 30 minutes for every 10-20 hours of play, and recently increased it to 1 hour to every 10 hours, and i usually study/watch videos during the less productive times. since i find these studies really help me to increase my understanding of the game, and im much worse then i thought i was, i am increasing my study time to around 20% from 10%, and spending the best time i have on it, which is the first or 2nd waking hour.
5. we should use polarised ranges vs people who 4bet big, and linear ranges vs people who 4bet small, because AQ which could have played profitably with a 3bet(more profitable than a call) now cannot face a big 4bet(making the 3bet less profitable), so we would rather call (which is a polarized range), whereas against a small 4bet we can 3bet/call AQ (so we use a linear range).
6. vs a 4bet we need to defend around 45%, so our 3bet range should be 40% value 60% bluffs.
Hi,
I'm currently back to poker for a few days, most likely longer. was trying out a new job as an insurance agent. i must say that is the most fulfilling work i have done in my lifetime. i handled 2 really challenging cases that i felt like giving up because the commission was really low, but then i remembered why i joined in the first place, and that was to deliver real significant value to people who actually needed it.
Case 1
YC (not his real name) was my first client, and he was chinese speaking. i previously promised myself i was not going to speak chinese because our entire presentation was in English and it was in depth. however after speaking to him on the phone i kinda liked him and decided to do for him my first Chinese presentation. As weird as it might sound, I don't sell anything in the first presentation. It's meant to educate the client and help him to understand his needs unique to his situation. however its challenging to break through the defenses of the general public that holds the thinking we are going to push a generic product down their throats and force them to sign right on the first meeting.
so i went down i saw this guy wearing a funny shirt and berms, before i started i was telling to myself, im wasting my time because he seems to be crap. YC was highly participative during the presentation and shared with my his challenges. of course i couldnt deliver the full essence of the presentation because alot of it is lost in translation to the Chinese language.
To be Continued
apparently my focus and understanding of the game has increased dramatically, im not sure whether its because i miss it after not playing for very long? or is that the sales job i got that really got me fired up about how people are thinking about things, forcing me to actually step into their shoes time after time? i went through a very trying period learning how to convince a person i dont even know through the phone to meet me so i can sell them insurance. many people cannot imagine how its like to be told to F*** off about 200 times a day. but if u manage to come out of it, you might realise its possible to call random people and have them be so interested that they actually give u a time and date and reason to meet you. i can recall at least 20 different moments i really wanted to break down and cry when i was making those calls.
or maybe its just a good run?
