PokerStars - $0.25/$0.50 (6 max) - Holdem - 5 players
Hand converted by PokerTracker 4

UTG: 10.12 BB (VPIP: 50.00, PFR: 50.00, 3Bet Preflop: -, Hands: 5)
CO: 25.26 BB (VPIP: 27.91, PFR: 20.93, 3Bet Preflop: 22.73, Hands: 43)
BTN: 12.42 BB (VPIP: 66.67, PFR: 33.33, 3Bet Preflop: 0.00, Hands: 3)
Hero (SB): 43.3 BB
BB: 40 BB (VPIP: 29.64, PFR: 23.95, 3Bet Preflop: 12.61, Hands: 337)

Hero posts SB 0.2 BB, BB posts BB 0.5 BB

Pre Flop: (pot: 0.7 BB) Hero has T♠ T♣

fold, CO raises to 1 BB, BTN raises to 1.5 BB, Hero raises to 2 BB, fold, CO calls 1 BB, BTN calls 0.5 BB

Flop: (6.5 BB, 3 players) 6♠ J♦ 4♥
Hero bets 0.5 BB, CO calls 0.5 BB, BTN calls 0.5 BB

Turn: (8 BB, 3 players) 5♦
Hero bets 1 BB, CO calls 1 BB, BTN raises to 2 BB, Hero calls 1 BB, CO calls 1 BB

River: (14 BB, 3 players) 2♥
Hero checks, CO checks, BTN bets 1 BB, Hero calls 1 BB, fold

Giving up to the turn raise seems too weak- was that wrong ? The only rational hands I could put BTN on given preflop & turn raise is 66 or JJ+, and possibly a very aggro flush draw semi bluff on turn. He could have the straight but preflop 3bet would have been way too loose if so.

Plan was to call one bet on river but fold if more.

My two cents:

Looks like you have the CO beat. There are hands that the BU could reasonably semi-bluff raise (K :diamond: Q :diamond:, suited A + rag w/ SD or FD, etc) and even thin value raise/RFFSD* (77, 88, 99) with on turn given what the board looks like and how the CO has acted.

The river isn't a total brick, but it is still a call.

No other way to play it I suppose.

*) RFFSD = Raise For Free ShowDown. Not popular among experts, but people do it sometimes.

Yeah I don't think theres any other way to play this hand.

putting him on 66+ and JJ+ seems to me a bit too strong especially considering he is an unknown to you (3 hands) flush draws are also possible and if he does this with a fd you can comfortably label him as an aggro player who doesn't mind to play a bit unorthodox.

I don't think anyone likes this board anymore on the river but it seems like a call. Rationally speaking when you look at it I don't think you will see anything other than Jx , sets or a busted fd. or overpair. (which I normally would raise on flop but this seems fine too if it was any other turn card. the 456 makes me like my overpair less. esp when you cap preflop.

There are hand where no altered play is an option but just one line makes sense but in this hand there is definitely another option to play this hand. Bu did 3bet Preflop and of course he might be semibluffing with KT and KQ or A7 :diamond: but those combos are just a few ones and in my mind you should have folded the turn since a raise 3way on the Turn is rarely a worse hand than yours and consider that you did bet the flop and you did bet the turn as well.

It means you won'T frequently have AQ or AK but you'll have some sort of high pair. AK AQ you'd check on the Turn and it makes absolutely no sense for him to raise with 77 and neither with 88 or 99. He can't raise/fold these hands and he's not ahead. He should just call the medium pocketpairs. Doesn't mean that he's possibly not capable of doing some unreasonable play but basically i would not assume that he's spewing around. You may call the Turn and hope that he checks the River but at latest on the River it's over and you should fold. What are you still ahead against except the few combos of flushdraws.

He seemed to be kinda new to you as you had yet just collected 3 hands of him. As a basic recommandation: Fold Turn!

correction. do what you did in the hand. folding turn makes you way too easy to exploit and it be hella weak. I do not agree with my great friend firsttsunami here. folding turn is simply too weak and on the borderline to bad imo. but ofcourse tsunami has more experience in the higher stakes than me. Nevertheless I find folding turn ridiculous at these stakes / micros.

Many thanks firsttsunami. In the cold light of day your explanation makes a lot of sense.

Leaving the CO aside for the moment...

It is a capped, fairly big pot worth winning. On the turn you are getting 13:2 for a calling down all the way (12:1 in immediate odds). You need to win 13.33% of the time. Does the button have 2 bluffs for every 13 value hands here?

The buttons value combos are likely to be AA-JJ, + maybe 66 = 24 in all if he is tight. If he has, say, 4 bluffing combos, then it is a call. With 3 bluffing combos, it is still a probably a mathematical call since you have outs.

If it were heads up, you need to be practically 100% sure the button is never bluff-raising and never mistakenly value raising 99/88/77 to fold here. You can't be that with an unknown player (you have 3 hands on him). And you would be extremely exploitable versus a known player. If he knew what you were doing, he should (until you understand what's happening) raise generously on this board, turning small hands like A :spade:6 :spade: into bluffs, even in the presence of the CO.

The presence of the CO changes things a bit towards folding. But this is very dangerous because it relies on the assumption that button is practically never bluffing two players. This is the micros and, based only on that, there are easily one in, say ten players that would bluff raise with 48 combos (about 15 times more than what is needed for you to call). This possibility alone says this is an easy call.

of course i don't know whether he's bluffing or not but if he's doing so, its a mistake to raise really light and you have to think in terms of our range, not in terms of just our actual hand. Consider our cappingrange and what we do bet on the Turn.

If he's playing against our range, he is losing a lot money by raising with small pairs since most of the time, we have AJs JJ QQ KK AA and even with 77 and 88 he's not getting us to fold with our addtional straightouts but the only hands we are folding are 99 and TT.

Since some thinking players should recognize that, they are not going as light as that and ok, we fold 99 and TT sometimes but i'm happy if somebody is raising A6 against my range since most of the times i am winning and can happily be 3betting him or at least calling down with most of the times the better hand.

But of course, you can keep arguing and say it's lowstakes and we have no read and people tend to be playing unreasonably etc.

we aren't arguing "its low stakes and everyones a stupid swede" (yohan :P)

that's just how we know the plays down there and yes you do have a point of course you know a lot but when it comes to unknowns you cant afford to be that tight, As we don't know what kind of person he is. I think somehow its "pay to exploit him later" KINDA scenario. In this case though I think we are winning most of the time with our range vs his range. even without knowing his actual range of hands.
