Depends on your point of view. In your case some concepts from the mid stage will apply to the early stages for sure. Unfortunately the charts, for example the resteal charts, were created for situations where antes are already in play. If you try to use the same charts for situations without antes they will be too loose. Therefore I defined the phases as is.

In general I would agree, that the early phase in a 180men ends a bit earlier while there are no antes. Maybe at a point where the average stack is around 25 to 30BB. If you take the charts for the midstages and play a bit tighter then they state (until antes kick in) you should be on the safe side =)

Hello,

First of all I would like to thank you for these coaching sessions. They help me a lot.

Secondly, I would like to show you a hand from the early stages of a SNG:

http://www.boomplayer.com/en/poker-hands/Boom/11530948_8F58270149

In Lesson 2, you stated that Top Pairs are Made Hands and should be folded against a postflop raise. My question is: Why is folding the correct play in the example shown above?

Best regards, Mihai

Hey Mihai =)
Thanks for your feedback! Glad you liked it.

Regarding your hand:
A fold obviously isn't the best option in your hand. When creating a coaching I always have to make some assumptions and deliver general advice that will work more often then not. I always have to generalize in order to keep it reasonably short and understandable.

When unexperienced players hold a top pair and another player raises against their continuation bet, it is the best decision to fold the top pair ON AVERAGE. Strategies can never hold up for any situation that you will encounter and you will have to adept yourself. The coaching delivers a general guideline that you can follow - but I would always encourage you to play differently if you have a solid argument for doing so.

Asaban

Hi Asaban, Not sure if anyone has asked this already.

But would these strategies be applicable also in live tournaments?

Good question!
I honestly don't know. The basics that I showed you should be applicable to every tournament. However, the specifics may vary.
For example the raise-sizes won't work all that well in many live tournaments. The ranges from your opponents might be fundamentally different and therefore you would have to call other ranges against a repush for example.
An average live player plays differently to an average online player. Therefore quite a few of my assumptions won't work all that well.

My advice would be to use the strategies with caution and adapt to the live environment whereever you can. Since there is no other content available at the moment that is specifically tailored for live tournaments you might as well test mine.

Good luck and let us know how it worked out for you!

Regards,
Asaban

Am I right that the lowest level of normal (no turbo) tournaments are $0,50+0,05 in pokerstars? And these are mostly 500 max partisipants.

Just makin shure where to start my work with these.

And we shoud never play turbos. Right?

There are a few uncapped 0.55$ tournaments. For example at 1am CET.
Lower buyins are only available if you play turbo's. If the choice is to play turbo's or not play at all I would suggest turbo's of course.
Furthermore I wouldn't say that you should never play turbo's. I just wouldn't suggest them to beginners, since mistakes are a bigger problem here.

If you have further questions feel free to ask!

Hey thanks for this great advice. Ive just finished 6th in a 1euro rebuy. (158 runners)
should of still been in it but my AKs got beat by AQos
Anyway. I made 2 mistakes early on and got punished so had to rebuy but after that it was plain sailing
I would of went out a lot sooner if I had not of read this, I'm sure because I shoved some hands with around 14bb that I just would never of done without your charts and advice. So thank you again.
Take care.

Depends on what you are looking for.
If you are looking for big pricepools Pokerstars.eu is the best option.
At the same time I don't necessarily think that big pricepools equal better tournaments. But thats another discussion I guess.

If you have any further questions feel free to ask!

Hard to say really. It comes down to your personal preferences and tournament choices.
I think that beginners will find suitable tournaments on all bigger sites.
The amount of fish is a bit higher on the smaller sites like Ipoker or 888. But it's not that important in the micros since most players are fish anyways.

Not sure what you mean with the tournament match making system (tmm) in regards to poker. That's more of an esports thing I guess. Or do you mean something else?
Maybe you mean the RNG (Random Number Generator) - but that should be fine on all bigger sites.

Asaban

Good evening.

I want to thank you for this course.

Please tell me what program you used to make colorful charts, I want your charts to adjust a little for themselves.

Thank you for your response.

And one more question: If we are at the beginning of the tournament, having no information on the players, will be the first to raise from CO next hand

Please advise what hands to add some remove from this chart.

Please forgive me for the stupid questions, I just started to play poker.
