Cutting out sugar and other processed carbs whilst adding more beans and lentils into your diet could help towards one of them goals! GL however you go about doing it! :f_thumbsup:

Thank you Vonki!

Yes, I cut out sugars along time ago. I stopped taking it in my tea last year and I stopped drink soft drinks then too. Have been paying particular attention to food labelling lately and trying to make the best decisions.

Appreciate the advice :)

Fitness/Health Update
Last week I started walking again and managed to walk 5/7 days (couldn't get out the other two days because of torrential rain etc) and walked for an average 40 minutes. This week, I've walked yesterday and today and I'm up to an hour. This is as long as I'll be able to go for at the moment. I plan to walk 5/7 days and take two rest days. On rest days I will do some light exercise in the house (pushups, situps and all that jazz)

Poker Update
On Sunday, I played Day 1 of the Galactic Main Event and made it through to Day 2 which is tomorrow. So I have that to look forward to. Gonna play the $109 Battle Royale as well if I can sell enough.

So David Bowie passed away at the weekend. RIP.

Admittedly, I found David Bowie through my love of Nirvana. Nirvana covered his "The Man Who Sold The World" on their MTV Unplugged in NY album back in 1993/94.

From there I became a big fan and listened to quite a lot of his stuff. In 2004, I was thrilled to find out that Mr Bowie was headlining Oxegen (Ireland's then version of Glastonbury but now not in existence) I bought tickets to the festival and a bunch of mates organised a weekend of debauchery etc.

I cannot exactly remember when he pulled out due to illness but he did and I was so frickin disappointed and to add insult to injury he was replaced as headline act by "The Darkness" who were massive at that time but lol no comparison. Anyways, his death leaves a small hole in the music world for sure and a small bit in my heart as well.

Listening to radio coverage over the last few days and people were speaking about this particular performance as one of his best. I checked it out and it didn't disappoint.

RIP David Bowie

Exam is completed, happy with how it went, guaranteed 75% at the very minimum!

Looking forward to hitting the tables this weekend after a short hiatus!

It has to be 'hiatus'......but you really only hear it in this phrase, 'a short hiatus'. I wouldn't otherwise build it into every day conversation!

Indeed, I probably should have said break instead!

So that's 4 modules out of 6 completed. Today we received the first set of results and I have an A in 2 of the 4, I should have an A in the 3rd as well (today's exam) so things are going well. I now have a new assignment which is due on the 22nd of February. I'll get started on that tomorrow and get a couple of the easier sections this weekend.

Have a busy few weeks coming, birthday party next week for my daughter, a stag do in Liverpool with friends and I'm back for module 5 on the 16th/17th of February! So, gonna keep up the hard work for college.

EDIT: Whoops, forgot to mention the health update! Walking is going well and I've integrated some light jogging as well the last week or so. This week (Monday to Sunday for all intent and purposes) I've walked 5.88km on Monday, 4km so far today, I'm about to go out again once the kids are in bed as I didn't get a chance to go yesterday. Will try to do 6km every day for the next few weeks and gradually build up from walking 75%/25% to 50/50, 25/75 to 0/100.

So far, I have lost 5lbs.

You should have a look at Couch to 5k Gary if you're after doing jog/walk intervals and building it up.

Yes, been meaning to do that. Need to get some proper running clothing and shoes first before I do damage!

Didn't manage to get out again Wednesday night, it started raining pretty heavily and it didn't break all night. Did manage to get out last night for 40 minutes where I took a completely different approach - I walked 1km, ran 0.4km, walked another 1.6km before running the last km which was a nice breakthrough moment I must say!

Healthy eating is going really well, just having 3 meals each day with fruit and water in between. I had been drinking 3l per day but I've cut it back to 2l as it bloating my weight.

Weekend plan:

Tonight: 5km (3.5km/1.5km)
Saturday: 5km (3.3km/1.7km)
Sunday: Rest day

Days may vary depending on the weather!

I agree Couch to 5k is a good program. Its nine weeks but you could likely start half way through, week 5 or something (I can't remember) of the nine week course. I have been following it myself and I am going in to week 8, The water will only increase your weight temporarily, it won't add fat. Still, it sounds like you take enough and your diet sounds good. Just don't do what I am doing and cut out sweets/chocolate etc only to replace it with toast!

I had a look at it and I'm probably a little bit ahead of it so I will keep to what I am doing for the minute as things are going well. I'm feeling very achy this morning after last night so I'll probably take tonight off and go instead in the morning. It'l be nice to go out when there is daylight for a change!

Yeah, toast is pretty bad - I think I've had 4 slices of bread this month in total which is a big turn around. Myself and the Mrs have been following a lot of the "Slimming World" recipes and they have been very, very tasty!

Okay, this week of exercise has been completed!

Today, I suffered my first "downswing" of the fitness era. It was my first trip out in actual daylight so I wasn't confined to the town area where I usually need the street lights to provide lighting and I decided to do things a little differently. I walked 1km, ran 0.5km, walked another 1km, ran another 0.5km and was completely buggered after it! Big mistake to make such a dramatic change!

On top of that, my tracking app paused unknown to me so it didn't calculate my whole trip! Anyways, lesson learned - gonna stick with the plan I've been using which involves more running, over less distances until I can build up a little more. 0.5km at a time is too much this week.

Weekly weigh in:
17/01: 14 stone
24/01: 13 1/2 stone

Stats:
So over the course of the week I managed to drop exactly 1/2 stone or 7lbs which is very nice. I managed a total distance of 27km in 5 outings which is also pleasing.

Next week goals:
Lose 5 lbs
Cover 30km total distance
Run 10km of total distance covered

I'm adding an extra 3km this week as I'm going to attempt walking on break from lunch if the weather permits it.

what do you mean if the weather permits it? are you a man or a mouse, Gary? the weather will allow it, after it's weather you want to find an excuse or not ;)

Well done for last week!

Haha fair point! Can't come back to work looking like a drowned rat at the same time!

Need to invest in some proper running gear this week.

Any advice Mr Marathon Man?

you can get most of it pretty cheap in discount shops . most of the clothes don't matter too much. the only expensive gear are the shoes. you should go to a specialist shop and do a gait analysis to determine which shoes are best for you. Then check online whether it is cheaper to get them at the shop or online. Decent running shoes are between £70 - £150. I personally prefer Asics but Nike (and other brands) are very good as well.

Then the best buy that I probably made for running is a pair of wireless headphone.

As for not coming back soaked to work soaked, Just have a change of clothes in a bag and you are sorted. I personally like running before work as I just need to get up earlier and the rest of my day is not altered. I still have all my evening free and I arrive at work fresh and ready to attack the day. I have joined a gym close to work so I can have a sauna and a shower after the run.

I hope this helps :)

Thanks Fab!

---

Picked up a slight foot injury on Monday so when I went out yesterday I just walked but I walked almost .5 times more than I normally would so hopefully that will make up for it.

Wednesday is always going to be a rest day, as it happens I have stuff to do tonight with a friend.

Hopefully going to exercise tomorrow (lunch and evening), Friday (lunch and evening) and either late Saturday or early Sunday to complete the week.

Wrapping up the week early, will weigh myself tomorrow morning and make a note of it here. Don't feel like I've lost any weight and it's our wedding anniversary tonight so we are going to be having a meal and a few drinks so fuck it!

This week was difficult, picked up the foot injury on Tuesday so I haven't been able to do ANY jogging at all since then and to be honest it's even painful to walk on at times so I'm taking the next 2 days off to let it recover a little and hopefully I can walk Monday, Tuesday and maybe return to jogging by Wednesday or Thursday at the latest.

This week:
Monday: 8.5km
Tuesday: 9.5km
Thursday: 4km
Friday: 10km

Total: 32km

This easily exceeds the goal of 30kms and would have made it to nearly 40km had it not been for taking an extra rest day.

Next week:
Distance 35km
Walk 30km
Run 5km

I'm away on a Stag weekend in Liverpool next Friday and Saturday so it will be difficult to reach those targets. Again, if my foot injury has not recovered, I will not force the issue regarding running. There is a whole year for that!
