Question in general: Is it okay/good to establish x/r ranges in general in 3bet pots on some flop textures or do you think x/r in 3b pots isn't a good approach (all vs the pfr)?
E.g. you flop a set in a 3bet pot oop, the flop is wet and there are many bad turn cards for your hand. Is it good to x/r and then shove many turns or should we play straight forwad x/c x/c x/c AI?

Here's an example hand for that situation:

BTN: $29.62
SB: $47.06
BB: $21.48
Hero (UTG): $25.00
MP: $37.11
CO: $49.68

SB posts SB $0.10, BB posts BB $0.25

Pre Flop: (pot: $0.35) Hero has T♥ T♦

Hero raises to $0.75, fold, CO raises to $2.25, fold, fold, fold, Hero calls $1.50

Flop: ($4.85, 2 players) T♣ Q♥ 8♣
Hero checks, CO bets $3.00, Hero ?

What would you guys like us to do in the next coaching, on January 28th?

Hand evals in general, hand evals of a specific situation, session review, PPC....

i'm moving up at nl50 so a session review would be nice

other thing i would like is to decrease my fold to cbet ... so spots where i should not fold to cbet

also spots where should i stop barreling my stack in

Unfortunately I can not be there tomorrow, but all the things you mentioned are quite interesting imo. Some theoretical stuff for specific spots and therefore looking at some specific hands is kind of my personal favorite. Also a session review like bonceore mentioned is a good thing. I'll be waiting for the podcast and cu on the next coaching

We will be reviewing some spots of when to or not to triple barrel.

See you guys tomorrow.

Yes, nice summary. And be aware of the fact that your showdown value is important in the decision making, it's irrelevant if you win a small % of the time when you check (so bluffing when you hold 3rd pair to make villain fold 2nd pair is not ideal for the most part)

Okay guys, next Thursday the coaching will be about flatting on the Button against open raises from UTG/MP/CO. We'll discuss some pre flop ranges, and of course a lot of post flop. Please post hands!

In one of your older videos you once mentioned something like this:
"low boards favor the 3bettor while high card boards favor the 3bet caller"

Could you please explain your thought process along with some range examples please?

Thanks

Hi guys,

as most of you know I've been a coach here at PokerStrategy for a while. You may know me best from my series 10 Tips to Get Out of the Micros.

I'm a medical doctor, resident in Neurology. In my free time somewhat I managed to get myself to a winner player in 200NL Zoom, which is the field I've been playing the last 18 months or so. Currently I'm on a forced vacation until October due to legal changes in Portugal Poker laws.

What exactly is the ER: Hands under Review?

It will be composed of
monthly coachings
monthly video
• + direct feedback in this thread.
The stuff we'll be discussing will depend immensely on you guys. We can potentially talk about pretty much everything we want poker related: range construction, reading into villains ranges, betsizing, raising cbets, etc.

Why are you doing this?

I like PokerStrategy, I've been around for a long time and I am definitely one of the "in-house" successes. I like discussing poker and everyone that knows me well (mostly portuguese community) knows that I like to help people improve. So this is your chance. Official topic where you can ask away and I'll answer everytime, it's up to you.

For who is it?

I can definitely help any player that plays up to 100NL, so everyone is invited to actively participate in this thread. Preferably it would be best if hands posted are at least from 10NL, since I get worried that it's not a good idea talking about 4bet/fold ranges to a 2NL beginner player

Very nice. How are we gonna do this?

Feel free to post any questions or hands in this thread. From specific hand questions to range discussion to theoretical questions. Remember that the more effort you put in your question the more effort I will put in my answer. Also, leave suggestions for future coachings or videos.

So, the ball is in your court, let's do this!

coaching suggestion:
How to play the river gto style (to understand how to bet river), mainly to answer the questions:
- at the table with a 30min timebank, how do i figure out if i have a value bet or not ?
- at the table with a 30min timebank, how do i figure out what is the top and bottom of my bluffing range?
- what excercises should i do in order to get a better feel so that i can in future make betting decisions with a 30 sec timebank

thanks

if Ft3b=55%, Ftcb=35% do u use the GTO 3b ranges 50%/50% value/bluffs? or you drop some bluffs ?
instinctively i would drop 50% of bluff 3bets... would you drop 0%, 25% or 50% ?
thanks

PS: assuming i 3bet 10bb OOP and 9bb IP ... no need for calculations, just want to know what you do in this spot?

I think a fold to 3bet of 55% is normal/marginally high and fold to cbet 35% in 3bp normal/marginally low. So I would not make any adjustments I think. Maybe when they fold 40% you cut down on weaker hands. But the reality is that against good players the 3bettor has to depolarize his range and 3bet mix hands. It's does not work that well for BB to 3bet KQ+, AJ+, TT+ and then some suited crap hands. Eventually we need to add some combos of hands like suited broadways, Axs, etc.
