AK fold correct on flop w/Ace?

Thanks for taking time btw to read this. Just getting into stage of my poker journey with hand discussions. Please advise if I can describe better.

$200 Memorial Day tournament recently. So various levels of players. 10K chips, blinds moving up every 30 mins from a start of 100/50.
Somewhere around 400/200 mark, I picked up AK non-suited from Cutoff and raised 1200 and was re-raised to 2400 by Button. We both had about 13K at this time.
I flat called raise. Flop Q-A-9.
I checked and Button shoved. I tanked and folded after thought. Was still early in tourney. Player had played smart up to that point only showing good hands. Raising and betting with what seemed good bet sizes up to that point. I at that time had only shown very tight image and showdowns with premium hands up to that point.

Questions for your thought:
Should I have re-raised pre-flop?
Should I have bet first instead of checking and folded to a raise?
Was a fold reasonable?

Normally I'm ok with busting out if I've played my hand to my best ability and would've had no problem calling and losing but didn't this time and for some reason this hand has replayed itself in my head a few times since. :) Probably because I all of a sudden went card dead and had to play very defensive for quite a while after that.
thoughts?

thanks everyone

I

I guess this was a life tournament hand. Otherwise it would be wise to use a hand converter like weaktight next time.

Normal I would 4bet push in a CO against BTN confrontation pre-flop with AK. You can’t make a 4bet and fold on a shove with a 13k stack.

As played I would check to the raiser as well and couldn’t find a fold with top pair here on his over shove. If he has better it’s unlucky I think without any reads on him doing this before.

Very strange hand, he shoves the flop for 2X pot

You started the hand with 30BB, so when he 3bets I'm 4betting all in and just going with the hand.

As played OTF I think I would call, would he 2X overbet shove a better hand here? Is he doing that with AA, QQ, 99, AQ, A9? I dont think so, surely he would just cbet them as normal and try and get some value out of your Ax & straight draw hands

At this stack depth AKo is an easy jam pre.

As played I do not think I can fold OTF. His line doesnt make much and in general I think he doesnt shove top2+ there so its likely you are ahead of his range.

Thanks all. Yes.. live tourney. Pretty much feel the same as you all do "after" the hand of course... didn't take my time to think through exactly what hands he would shove with though AQ crossed my mind but still he wouldn't have shoved either. Lessons learned though and I thank you all for your input.
Maybe why it's bugged me more than normal. :) Two mistakes instead of one.

I know the feeling, some times I still panic a bit and pussy out and take a too passive line then when I'm reviewing my hands or other peoples I'm thinking more aggressively, learning curve I guess
