Hello everyone. So my brother is running deep in a micro stake tourney on stars and he decides its a good idea to do what he did in the boom player hand below ... can someone please give an opinion? I personally think it is a terrible play and there is no need for it at this stage of the tourney against two short stacks.

We cannot call here. I am not a tour player but I def would have fold this one. I might not open when knowing there is a SS there.

I would fold right away as well. If you open here you will be committed against the short stacks.

On controversy, in Hot or any Turbo MTTs it's good open in this spot; But when our personal attitude "a terrible play" with possible self-confrontation, then we should, probably, fold.
Well, let me explain. 3 opponents remain (the only concern, in my humble opinion, is huge stack on BU) Now, if he quite passive this is great open raise, otherwise we should fold a lot of a times on his 3-Bet (playing w/o position w chip leader being 40bb deep not really our plan on that kind of tables); Now, why is this open good? We have J8s (which of course in our bottom range) pot already 34,500 (which means BB is no longer into consideration) we might open any none junk hand in "+"; Now, SB has 7bb and a reasonably wide range (but that not the case) the case is he ship 7bb into 4.5bb after our initial raise, and for us it is always call whenever we opened (much of a times w hit coin or 40/60 and it's good w dead money already into);
So on a long run if we continue open like that, we would benefit from it; But we must know, if open we almost never has fold to ~10BB stacks;
Don't push hard on yourself, we all been there;

Looks like a bad spot to open pre flop to me with a bigger stack and 2 short stacks to our left.
Once he does and the SB shoves I guess you have to call getting better than 2:1, but IMO best just to fold pre and avoid this situation

Disclaimer: I'm a newbie 
In my opinion the pre flop raise is ok for a steal. Its ok card to play not the greatest. Your are deepstack so flex some muscle. For stealling purposes, when the SB reraise ALL IN I think we have to respect his 3bet & fold. Donating chips late in the game is my biggest leak so far.

IMO its only a good steal if it gets through (and I'm not sure it gets through often enough to be profitable), because if the SS shoves you are getting the right odds to call, but is J8s a hand you really want to be going all in with when you could have just folded pre??

I'm with you here. Our equity is +- low 30% maybe mid 30%. I'll call with kq, qj. They just flop better. I agree just fold after the shove.
