Hello guys! I was tilting a bit when I played this hand, so I called preflop and decided to check-raise OTF. It wasn't my usual line of playing and it feels weird. So I would like to find out if it was a very bad hand or a slightly bad one :)

Maybe raising is not very bad but I just don't see any reason to do so. You get excellent odds to call there but now you are turning your 2 overs + nut FD into a bluff. As played I think this is very close to calling. Folding might still be just a liiitle bit better (assuming villain has only made hands that beat us).

I 3 bet this preflop. 3 betting doesn´t seem that bad to me. However better line imo is - call OTF and raise OTT.

I'd say just slightly bad. A big raise will isolate better hands (or make all fold).

An interesting play would be to raise small. This way, you might get two callers and can check behind on turn (you "buy" initiative) if you miss, thus drawing twice cheaply. As a side effect, if you hit, the bigger pot might generated may allow you to stack someone. I.e. I am talking about the "raise for free card" of the old days. I'd like this play better with a small flush draw. Hitting a A or a J might put you in trouble. Awkward in a sizeable pot.

Calling is fine too.

Our hand has a ton of equity and virtually nothing in the way of reverse implied odds.
Yet we got ourselves into a bad situation so something must have gone wrong somewhere. *i know i read you felt a bit tilted but lets pretend you wasn't for a bit.

Against his range, before he cbets, we have a really good hand. Well we expect him to cbet, so when he does cbet nothing at all changes. Our hand (not so much our range though) is doing really well vs his range. Because our hand is doing so much better than our range, our opponent is really in a bit of trouble if you think about it.

But, although we have very little in the way of "reverse implied odds" (good) we have virtually no "implied odds" either (bad) because the board is so bad... unless... unless he hit a set... then our implied odds shoot right up, because no one likes folding a set.

The only reason I see for check raising is to get him to fold hands we are currently beating or at least on a par with and that doesn't seem a good strategy.

You could argue that you wanted him to call the check raise, and then hope he checked the turn back therefore you get to see both turn and river cards... but lets have a little look at that with a bit o maths.

The flop hit at 9.5bb, and then he bet 7bb. It is going to cost us 7bb to call. The turn will have a pot of 23bb.
If he double barrels with 2/3 pot again then his turn bet is going to be 16bb.

Well, if we was to call that, and lets be honest we might choose to if the board hasn't paired and some other random low card has hit, it would have cost us 25bb (7bb + 16bb) to see both turn and river. And that is less than the 26.5bb we check raised.

So mathematically, the check raise makes no sense, and there was always the chance he was going to check back the turn anyway. Yes it does mean he will fold off some bluffs, but why would we want him to do that?

The moral of all this... Never interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake.
