SB: $1.85 (92.5 bb)
Hero (BB): $3.38 (169 bb)
UTG: $1.45 (72.5 bb)
MP: $2.46 (123 bb)
CO: $2.25 (112.5 bb)
BTN: $1.86 (93 bb)

Preflop: Hero is BB with 8♠: 8♦:
3 folds, BTN raises to $0.05, SB raises to $0.17, Hero calls $0.15, BTN calls $0.12
Was a very close call on preflop with plan on playing fit or fold on flop

Flop: ($0.51) K♣: 8♥: J♣: (3 players)
SB bets $0.24, Hero raises to $0.86, BTN folds, SB raises to $1.68 and is all-in, Hero calls $0.82

Was thinking big broadway hands and was trying to get value for my set.

Main question: was I too aggressive?

Turn: ($3.87) 2♠: (2 players, 1 is all-in)
River: ($3.87) A♠: (2 players, 1 is all-in)

Results: $3.87 pot ($0.14 rake)
Final Board: K♣: 8♥: J♣: 2♠: A♠:

Spoiler

SB showed J♦: J♠: and won $3.73 ($1.88 net)
Hero showed 8♠: 8♦: and lost (-$1.85 net)
BTN mucked and lost (-$0.17 net)

The problem in this spot that you only play 92bb effective and you need to invest 7,5bb to call for set value. Based on the call 20 rule for calling for set value it’s an easy fold and you aren’t closing the action as well.

As played I would raise the flop a lot smaller against 2 small stacks. I think 60c in total is big enough and I would still call a shove with my set. This way you look not committed yet.

Cheers,

I think its hard to get away from. As it is easy for them to have the second best hand. With alot of kings or draws. Thanks for reminding me the call 20 rule.

Postflop is ok. Raising flop is correct but your sizing is quite big. When villain shoves you call there of course. He will have draws, 2 pair, TPTK, AA etc..

Preflop is a problem. You can't cold call a 3bet here. BTN could shove and you would have to fold. Also if we use the call 20 rule you would have to stack off both villains when you hit to make this profitable. So you are leaking money on the long run when you call in spots like this.

I don´t think preflop call is close. You are deep and it might be MW, so implied odds! No, I don´t think you played too aggressive, maybe you could raise smaller OTF. As played it´s fine.

To la55i: Well, BTN might shove, but how often does this happen? I think we have here nice call to set mine.

We are not deep, we are effectively short. Neither of the villains have 100bb stack.
BTN opens about 45% range and he has 3% value 4bet range vs 3bets so we will face a 4bet from him around 7% of the times.

The pot is 0.22$ and we have to call 0.15$. This means we must have 40% equity. We have 12% chance to hit a set OTF. That means we must get at least 50bb more every single time we hit a set. I don't see that happening very often. SB has a lot of bluff 3bets that will give up. BTN might 4bet or fold (he is flatting only about 10% of his range).

In 3bet pots we can follow call 15 rule. That would mean that our effective stack sizes should be 2.25$ for us to really have decent implieds. And since BTN is flatting only around 22% of his range and SB is short, we really don't get enough implieds.

Playing to hit a set possibly multiway isn't that bad, but being oop will be harder to get full value. When we hit it's good game, never folding on that board. We could also call the Flop to be deceptive, or raising smaller would be better but don't think it's a mistake to raise big on that flop.

la55i how did you come up with that numbers? I believe that your equity numbers are ok, but that BTN opens 45%, where did you get that? 4bet at NL2 happens rarely as a bluff, 7% is too much imo. When we call this his bluff (and probably value also) range tightens, because more ppl in the pot = we tighten our range. However, saying that´s hard to get value from this position...there might be something about it. Though, standardly I would call this to set mine.

Effectively short - what does that mean? :)

I think BTN should open wide and I personally open sometimes even wider than 45%.

With that 7% 4bet I meant he 4bets 7% of his 45% opening range. That would be the top 3% hands. So if he opens with 45% range and 3bets JJ+,AK - we will see a 4bet 7% of the times.

Hero is deep in this hand with 169bb. That doesn't matter because villain his short with 92.5bb. That means our effective stack size is 92.5bb. We can only win that if we go all in. So basically now we are not deep, we are playing with less than 100bb stack. :)

I see. Well as u explained it, I think it might be harder to get value from SB when we hit set, but still pretty doable imo. Sets are not that readable. But I´m not sure there, it´s just my guess...

About effectively short - sure I need to compare my stack to villain´s one, dumb me...
