Learning cap at NL2

Can you only truly learn to beat a level by playing in it?

I would say this is kind of false. You can do a lot of work off the tables and when you know a lot of stuff and play solid poker on your own level, I believe you can be doing ok on a higher level too. You might not win the higher limit instantly but with small adjustments that could work.

Is it useful to stick at a lower limit even tho you have the BR for a higher limit, considering your beating your current limit?

No. If you have the bankroll for a higher limit and your winrate is even slightly positive on your current limit I suggest you take a shot at the higher limit. If you stick to a lower limit you might be wasting your potential. You could move to higher levels faster

Is there a cap at how good you can get at NL2?

Probably yes. Off the tables you can be learning some GTO concepts that will work on higher limits too, but just playing NL2 and crushing it doesn't make you win NL100. NL2 villains play very much differently and are more fishy and unpredictable. The playing style that works at higher levels is different than what works at NL2.
