Hello, this guy was min open raising almost every hand, and wasnt folding to 3bets, so i 3bet for value with JJ, the flop is pretty dry and i decide to check and bet turn and river for value, however the K on the turn changed the relative strength of my hand, should i have just checked it down from there?

Preflop: Against the player you described, do not hesitate to use a bigger sizing. 4x and opponent will call the same hand, it is just a gambler that want to see flop ! So let's build a huge pot !

Flop: pretty dry, mmh, is not pretty drawy but is not pretty dry ! Chexk flop is good. I still prefer a bet against this player, a little sizing like 1/2 pot, he'll call a lot of strange hand...

Turn: As you played flop, is a little bit overplayed. I mean, what kind of hand do you want to value from villain? Couldn't you value these hand on the flop ? You can check again and bet on the river.

As played turn, is a good fold.

I don’t think the turn bet is to bad, but it’s good to know if he likes to call a lot post-flop as well. Most of the time I would try to get a cheap showdown.

Cheers,

Checking the flop would be justifiable if you were oop

Can you elaborate on that?

What will you do if opponent check raises you? If so, what if he then continues barreling the turn? Checking vs aggro (non donkey) opp is definitely justifiable as you are mainly planning to go for a bluff catch (of most likely 1 or 2 streets max)
That being said, vs loose passive fish, you probably got to go for a value OTF

I think it is highly result-oriented to regret the turn bet. Most bets, checks and raises mean what they represent, and keeping giving free cards with a medium pair might not be a good idea. You essentially hope he'll bluff river with a small bet. Might happen, but nobody knows.

I dont regret it, i was always planning to bet the turn card, but my question is how does this K affect my hand what about an ace, wouldnt it be better to check them 2 cards and bluff catch the river.

The K is bad of course (AK not unheard of), an A is worse. But you knew that. I'd say neither betting or bluff catching is very juice. You are simply in bad shape. About bluff catching: You can't call very big bets, anywhere near the size of the pot or above.

So if you want to value these hands (and the King is a really bad turn for the range you said) why don't you bet fon the flop ?

So you make a healthy continuation bet and either a) he folds and you take it down right there or b) he calls and you get what you wanted in the first place.

Further, describing this as a "very dry" board is insane. You really need to study extensively if you want to play cash games at the 25NL level. If you don't even know how to interpret a board's texture you're going to just continue donating money to every table you sit at. What's the rush? Take some time and try to understand the game fully before you start playing big pots.

I see in a newer thread that you lost your 25NL roll (shock) and that you're moving back down to 2NL. Good. Start there, actually use your gold sub to study videos, and then put in a lot of volume and build a solid foundation. There is no easy or quick route to getting good at the cash game.
