Hi. I'm a new poker player.
I just saw this video from MIT.
At 11:10 the presenter show how to calculate the equity at the river. He get 44 total combinations. AK, AQ, AJ, A9 and A8 beats him always. AT beats him half the time. But then I really don't understand how he can say that he wins 11/44 combinations. I says something like "so each time we actually get half the pot. So I'm I'm gonna make that equivalent to us winning three of those times of us losing three of those columns which is equivalent in expectation". Well.. how did he estimate that? Wouldn't it be the same to say something different like "win 4 of that 5 times and lose 4 of that 5 times"? I mean, summed is always 1/2. And where does 11 exactly come from?
Thanks
