Hello!

I have started my 3 months spin&go challenge at the beginning of the week. I'm currently playing about 4k hands/day and might double that over the next three months. I spent quite some time preparing and even allotted 2h per day for hand review & improving on theory. The only issue is: I don't know how to get valuable insight from such a big pile of hands!
Software I use:

  • HM2 tracker
  • ICMizer (incl. the 15$/month nitro extension that should be included in the 30$/m subscription...)
  • Equilab, various starting hands charts...

Most of the HU plays under 20BB so simply going through it with ICMizer seems fine? it should be mostly P/F anyway.
The issue I have is getting insight on my 3 handed play at "deep" (>20BB) stacks. What stat should I filter on, etc. ?
More importantly, how do you get the best learning experience from hand reviews?

I wonder if I should hire a coach to help me get started with this daily routine and iron out the most obvious mistakes I make, any opinion on that?

Thanks for the help.
(I hope it's in the right subforum)

Coach will always help and make it quicker (assuming coach know what he does) but few points for free:

- Always use just minraise in 3handed from BU and in HU for small raise. Bigger one will drop profitability of steals (plus make villains resteals more profitable) and with shallow stacks there is simply no need for bigger one to build pot. From SB using bigger can be better as good player is not folding much versus minraise being in position. But most people in micros are not good so minraise could be best from SB as well. In general versus good player using lot of open limping from SB is viable strategy. Idea is to keep pot smaller when OOP, not let villain resteal as much and to widen range of hands you can profitably play.

- 20bb is quite much in HU and there is lot more to it than just P/F play. At beginning you can start to play just P/F with 10bb or less even though that is not optimal really. With less than 20bb resteal shoves tend to become more usual. So think on how you want to form your ranges. E.g. raise-folding hands with great postflop playability is not good thing so limping or shoving might be good idea. Form default ways to play hands but alter them based on reads. E.g. if villain seems tight minraising very wide range can be best. If villain 3bets wide polarize your minraise range into weaker and stronger stuff to be able to call more often, etc.

- How wide to open or defend depends lot about your skill edge postflop and what type of opponents you face. So if you lack experience on postflop side its better to be on tighter side to keep decisions easier.

- Post lot of hands into hand analyzing area to get different views and confirmation on your thought processes.

- I have not used ICMizer but if it has feature similar to HRC quick analyze you can filter hands in HM2 and bring them into tool. E.g. filter hands where you have 12bb or less effective stack and chance to open shove to go through lot of possible shove spots and see how those look like. Or filter situations where you face shove and need to call.
