Am I wasting my time by playing a WSOP Satellite tournament?

Hello everyone,,
The WSOP circuit is coming to Biloxi in December, and the casino is hosting a few satellite tournaments where the first couple spots win a free seat to the main event. I am thinking about driving to one of the satellite tournaments next week.

I am a new player (started about 6 months ago), and to be honest, not all that good. My plan was to treat this as a fun learning experience as I don't expect to win.

However, I am concerned that I will be so outclassed that it isn't worth the drive or the money to play. It will take about 3hrs each way to drive and the tournament is $75. Has anyone played these satellites before and have thoughts on playing them?

Hey Miller2,

Welcome to PokerStrategy.com :welcome:

If you don't mind the drive and can spare the buyin, why not?

The general consensus is that live tournies are a lot softer than their online counterparts. I have heard comparisons with being equivalent to micro/low stakes online MTTs.

Do you play online? Do you play MTTs? Do you take playing seriously and want to improve your game? These are all key questions in deciding whether it would be worth the trip.

While you think that over, you can check out these videos:

If you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to ask. :f_drink:

Have fun :gl:
