PokerStars - €0.02 NL (6 max) - Holdem - 6 players
Hand converted by PokerTracker 4

UTG: 97.5 BB
MP: 152 BB
CO: 103 BB
Hero (BTN): 191.5 BB
SB: 100 BB
BB: 100 BB

SB posts SB 0.5 BB, BB posts BB 1 BB

Pre Flop: (pot: 1.5 BB) Hero has 7♠ 7♦

fold, MP raises to 2 BB, fold, Hero raises to 4 BB, fold, BB calls 3 BB, MP calls 2 BB

Flop: (12.5 BB, 3 players) 3♠ 5♥ 5♦
BB checks, MP bets 5 BB, Hero calls 5 BB, fold

Turn: (22.5 BB, 2 players) 6♦
MP bets 6 BB, Hero raises to 12 BB, fold

Hero wins 32.5 BB

My thought process:
"Ok, he flat called my opening raise PF. then he donked 5BB (is that a donk anyways?) and I called. at this point I checked and honestly I was expecting him to bet something around 10BB, but instead I faced a weired 6BB. So I went for a 3bet."

Is that logical?

Hello,

Pf if you wanted to 3bet you should do a size like 3x of the original open raiser. So, you either flat call with those 77 or go for a 3bet of 7bbs.
Flop ok.
Turn again, you go for the min raise.. What was your intention, make him fold right there? The only worse hands that will call you there are some draws and some overcards. The rest of the range will be beating you. So imo by raising there you're transforming your hand into a bluff, which does not make sense since you have value. I'd call there.
Remember, you should not act acording to villains moves. You should act acording to ranges and villain's types.
Cheers :f_drink:

Thanks. I have some questions on your reply because I am very noob to the concept of ranges etc. You say:

The only worse hands that will call you there are some draws and some overcards. The rest of the range will be beating you. So imo by raising there you're transforming your hand into a bluff

How did you put that villain on range? obviously we cannot put him on 46, but a 55+ is a range we can put him on. The question is , what we gain from calling? putting him on which range by just calling? Actually the sentence I really do not understand is the second one that my hand is turned into a bluff. Can you explain in a noob-friendly way, why we might put villain in a mood like that to believe that my hands is a bluff?

You're welcome.
Let's say you're in villain position and decided to min open raise (2x the value of the blinds), then, somebody after you min 3bet you (2x the size of your open raise) and then another person cold called that 3bet and the action is back to you. You have to put 2BB to play for a pot of 12.5BB, don't you think that's a nice deal? You'll get odds better than 6:1, which means you only have to win that pot like 15-20% of the time to be profitable.
With that being said, villain range here will be very wide I guess. I would say all the pocket pairs, some suited connectors, many broadways, many Ax suited and offsuited.. That's why I said most of the time villain is betting some draw there or overcards.
About your question, from calling you gain maybe another street of bluff from him (which means more money) and if it's hand was stronger than yours you still have some decent equity to win the hand on the river.
Let's say that villain has an hand like A5 that he decided to slowplay by betting small each street. When you raise on that turn, if villain has better hands than yours, you'll get reraised and you'll be very inconfortable to continue right? This is why you're transforming your hand into a bluff there, because you're raising with a "not so strong value hand" when you have (or should have) many other hands in your range to do that move on that spot. Was this clear for you? So, let's continue to picture villain with A5 on that turn, he continue to slowplay it and go for that small bet and you call again with tour 77. As I was saying, you still have decent equity to beat him on the river because any 4 or 7 will be giving you the best hand.
My advice to you is to search here on pokerstrategy for cash games strategy, articles or videos. Or both. You need to study if you want to be a better player.
Cheers and gl on the tables.
