Probably i played the hand far from perfect, but come oooonnnnn QJo :why: Didnt find a thread for tilted people like i am right now so i post here:D. Villain is some classic russian guy, over 200000vpip. On the flop i checked to the preflop raiser , didn't raise right there because the board is too dry, there are some draws i might have, but i don't think someone is going to put me on draw on that board. Turn i check again, assuming that MP is likely to bet again, after continuing on the flop vs 2. Wrong suggestion. Very messed up line from me i think, feel like there is much better way to play that. However river comes K and this guy bets pot. So for a split second in my mind comes the thought of QJ, but i quickly decide that it is faaar unlikely considering the flop, maybe QJs but still not very likely, another set........Maaaayyy be, but he didnt bet or raise since now, so i put him on some random two pair basically considering the pot bet. Dont know if my river raise is big enough. Great session today, guess it is time for a brake, not the first stack i loose by the way, don't care about that, but that guy.................. Come oonnnn QJo, reaalllyy??? All my logic, if there is any at all, went out of the window:D QJo....get the f.... out of here:facepalm:

Why not raise the river? :why:

Check on the turn seems ok to go for a check raise your going to give mp a chance to barrel and the sb a chance to commit more to the pot with a call. What hands does villain check on the turn that we beat ? AK AT nope KT yes but the river sizing doesn't suggest KT.On the same point what better hands check the turn AA TT and 77 nope i think they all bet and KK yes .So it's only really the QJ combos and KK that we lose to and that's all villain really reps with this line. Id want to raise the river in game but maybe calling is better. You shouldn't post results though as it can skew peoples thoughts when replying.

Turn is a check decent I think with in mind the MP will fire again most of the time.
Another option could be to check/raise the flop.
As played his over bet on river is suspicious. I would most likely just call or you think he can call with a 2 pair hand if you raise.

Cheers,

Maybe you are right guys. I can also put him on K7 from what i saw from him, no problem, T7 too, and i wouldn't be surprised if he checks T7 OTT. Also OTT nobody bets so he might try some move to take the pot. I dont know...against such player it is such a guess work, feel like he can do anything. The pot bet is really disturbing and seems like most of the time when they bet pot they have it, usually they go smaller with their stupid plays. Another question...I am new to ranges and stuff but as played does this mean that i don't have a raising hand in my range in that spot? It is all call? And ty Reds i will not post the results:f_thumbsup:

You might have some QJ combos in a floating range on the flop so QhJh would certainly raise the river. It's all about discounting combos from villains range"sometimes you'll be wrong".But if you can discount AA then maybe TT can be a raise if they can bet call a hand like KT or K7.So ye 44 can be a raise if they have enough worse hands to call the raise.

not raising this on the flop basically means that you don't have a raising range in this spot (from a theory perspective).

let's think a bit about what's happening when you raise. you can only represent sets/A7s/A4s as your value hands by raising this spot.
that's very interesting from a leveling perspective, as many players will either greatly overfold or overcall. in NL5 you're likely to find overfolding, both because some players are scared money and because they don't know how wide they theoretically need to defend against a raise here (such as many backdoors).
from an exploitation perspective, i like putting either too many bluffs or too much value, depending on the opponent.. if i don't see an exploit, i tend to revert to not having any raising range, it's just easier to play.

that's some arguments for calling. i would also call myself, mainly because i don't think MP is super strong with this under halfpot bet, and SB can have basically anything. however, if you believe they are Ax heavy, then raising is nice.
that said, on the turn i really like a large donk bet. it brings many draws and i don't think MP's barreling frequency is going to be very high.

as played, whatever really. i don't mind raising, but just jam it yourself, don't use this dumb sizing which effectively negative freerolls you into letting him 3bet when you're beat and just call when you're not.

Thank you guys, really helpful:f_thumbsup: I've been reading through some theory lately, watching some videos about ranges, frequencies, etc. It adds certain confidence in my game but it is also very confusing some times, because i don't really know how to approach the game. Feels like this things are a must if i want to move up the stakes, but at the same time i don't know what to really focus on or how to best approach certain situations. Don't have sophisticated programs and stuff so i play with Equilab from time to time. See how different ranges hit certain boards, trying to figure out what the best play should be etc. So any advice would be highly appreciated, what to focus on, how to put all this things together so i can best apply them in real time?
