An agent would run on the poker computer that would collect the information and pass it to the solver computer.
It would be next to impossible for poker site software to detect such an agent, since it could change it's name and characteristics periodically.
Certain "polymorphic" viruses behave this way https://www.techopedia.com/definition/4055/polymorphic-virus
In the past, bot detectors would record where on a button the click occurred, and if a "player" clicked on the same spot repeatedly, it was flagged for scrutiny.
Bots began to move their clicks around.
Then timing came in to play.
I presume that such an agent would be detectable, similar to the way in which the viruses eventually became detectable.
Since OP asked "Can we as players do anything to protect from RTA?" the question is still open.
Taking notes of strange behaviour might work.
Years ago a Double-or-Nothing collusion ring was exposed that way.
I only heard about it because I got a refund from PartyPoker for some tournaments.
