Without reads I would fold the over bet shove. Offcourse villains shove makes no sense, but it's to risky to call with only a bluff catcher I think.

Cheers,

In fact, when I posted the hand in this forum, I was still thinking that I had trips on river, but now I can see that all I had was a pair of 8. lol

BB shows 7♥ 6♦ (One Pair, Nines)
(Pre 35%, Flop 19%, Turn 14%)
Hero shows 8♥ J♥ (Two Pair, Nines and Eights)
(Pre 65%, Flop 81%, Turn 86%)
Hero wins 200.4 BB

I think I know what happened, we both misread the board, he thought he had a straight and I thought I had a trips. What a laugh!!

"Misread equity" is a real thing.
Another is "misclick equity" β€” but you can't fake it if you genuinely misclick "call" or "raise" instead of "fold" you'll win.
I'm pretty sure that is how most of the players who shove 32o end up with a wheel by the river.

Well having J♥: is pretty bad thing for bluff catch. We are likely not folding any trips as default on such drawy board.

It doesn't make any sense this shoving on the river.

no matter what villain had in his head, i would fold anyway

Well our range is fairly capped as most 9x+ would likely second barrel turn or aim for x-r. Some 9x should also x-c. BB has lot of 9x in his range so I don't think overshove is bad line from him. Also 76 feels like good combo unblocking lot of heroes folding range.

That said I am not holdem cash player but I wouldn't say that shove doesn't make any sense. With range advantage on nutty portion you can go for some big overbets obviously.

Easy fold on the river. You had only luck but by poker strategy you did mistake - but still with your "trips" call so big overbet, he could have better trips or FH.

nope, I don't think he misread the board, there's absolutely no indication that he did so.

------

F: OOP I like to bet Top Pair + Flush Draws, while usually check/calling mid/bottom pairs with flush draws. Betting can't be the largest mistake in the world, but there's a slight difference. After all, middle pair is middle pair, with or without the flush draw.

T: I would typically double check-call but now clearly you have to check-call Turn with this hand, betting would be horrendous

R: This river shove from him is honestly terrible, it makes your life super easy
Without reads
>Call 9X
>Fold everything else

He's risking 86 to win 32, he needs you to fold 73% of the time and call 27% of the time.
I'm sure you have enough weak 9X in your range to call the overbet shove.
Thus by default he isn't going to be exploiting you if you use this strategy.

If we talk about picking more combos to herocall with
You having Jh sucks - You block JhXh and JT/QJ from his range, so he has a lower proportion of bluffs in his range that can play in this way.

So I would typically fold this - this is one of the worst bluff catchers you could have. I would rather take a hand like As4s to call down.
