Absolutely agree.

Bear in mind that it is not just the poker room that "rigs" the game.
I have only seen this once, when I used to play double-or-nothing STTs
There appeared to be a team of players -- up to 8 different usernames -- all from the same country, and there would be 3 or four of them at a table fairly frequently.

I could never be certain that they were soft-playing each other, but nevertheless I reported the situation.
About a month later I received an email stating that my buy-in had been returned to my account for several tournaments that they had been involved in.

It is the duty of the poker room to police the players.
If they do a poor job, it is another reason to avoid that site.

Last week, it felt like I was literally being cheated. Just nonsense horrendous beats in ridiculous spots. Fast forward a week, won one of my site's marquee daily tournaments twice back to back days. Sw0ngs mate. Gotta deal with it emotionally or poker will just eat you up.

Similar experience — shorter timespan.
first 300 hands of short-deck, down 5 BI, next 30 hands up 10 — net up 5

The difference to Volkswagen is that at Pokerstars all hand histories are saved. And a LOT of players have big databases of hands. There are tons of players, who have databases with not just their hands, but millions of hands from other players. We all know that internet is full of people who love conspiration theories and are just itching to find something suspicious.

This creates a situation, where we have people looking to bust big companies and statistical evidence available for anyone. To rig games would be really stupid. Although one might say that humans amaze with their stupidity over and over again.

Also, variance is something that our brains are not designed to understand. Confirmation bias also kicks in when having bad beats and downswings.

I would say that if site offers hand histories to be imported, it decreases the odds for rigged games a lot. And the bigger the site is, the smaller the odds for rigged games are.

As Tomaloc said, if you don't trust the games, don't play them. There are plenty of poker rooms to choose from.

What I just hate is that you can't see players folded hands. I can't trust them to catch players that are colluding in time. Especially in PLO and the mixed games. That's why I like 2-4 handed games even though I'm a pretty big nit and prefer 9man tables every time.

Yeah, if you have info on players' folded cards, it will give you an advantage if you study your opponent's strategy. But guess what? It's just as fair as using a HUD. If they allow it, my opponents will be able to see my folded hands in their hand histories too. Just like everybody can use a HUD.

And I'm not saying to make them visible the same day. Make last years hand visible, that way you may study leaks that may not even be there anymore.
They even do this with big tournament replays that they upload on youtube for the whole world to see the players' strategies. How is this different than what I'm proposing?

But if they do this, like they do it on big tournament replays, there will be less questions about the site being rigged or collusions. And cheaters will be reported and catched much easier and faster.

Hi jhonyjhon,
If you believe you have evidence of wrongdoing please report it to the regulator that governs PokerStars
You can get links to those agencies by clicking the icons at the very bottom of PokerStars Terms of Service.

It is very strange that this happens only to you. There are countless others that this doesn't happen to.

And as always...
If you don't trust the poker room — don't play there!

If you continue to play there, then the only one to blame is yourself.
Of course, you could always just fold if a Brazilian goes all-in preflop.
I am sure they would like that.

All the best,
VS

Why didn't you post your winnings and EV adjusted winnings on preflop allin's to back it up?

For those stories, I always wonder the logic in this: someone cheated and stole my money, I have the proof, I am not going to send it anywhere.

???

I think that you and I both lack the sympathy.
Why? Because it has happened to us so many times it doesn't really matter any more.

The only time I ever got the idea I was being cheated, was playing double-or-nothing sit and goes on Party poker.
I reported it.
After a few months, they informed me that as a result of their investigation I was being refunded the buy-in for all tournaments the involved the players in question.

So if there really is evidence, it doesn't hurt to report it.

It's not a lack of sympathy or empathy. I know exactly how it feels, been there.

We can't decide our feelings. And our brains are not designed to accept nor understand variance. That's why we need to use logic against those feelings and false believes. But to say "I have the proof" but not doing something with it is as illogical as believing that brazilians have hacked Stars rng. Or Stars favors brazilians over others.

If you have the proof that certain players know the upcoming cards, send it to Stars and post it to 2+2. If accurate, it would be the biggest poker headline probably ever.

Or you are just upset and angry cos variance happened, and just say you have the proof so it wouldn't sound like another bad beat story.

To be honest, my pick is the later one. If you have time and energy to post that you have the proof, why not just post the proof?

How did they prove the deal was truly random? Other than paying a company millions of $ to say what they want. I see so much you get so many more bad beats because you play more hands. that just stupid lol 100 hands is 100 hands it just takes longer live than online. Pokerstars are probably at a 75% bad beat on all ins or higher! I have never lost so many all-ins preflop when I was ahead NEVER!

I have never lost so much online as I do when I cash out from the site! It is ridiculous and that excuse you see more hand is like saying 100lbs of bricks weigh more than a 100lbs of feathers!

Hi Whiskeycigars,
Welcome to PokerStrategy.com :welcome:

First of all, you must realize that of the hundreds of thousands of people on PokerStrategy.com few will believe that PokerStars cheats.
Why would they? If they ever got caught, they would lose the ability to earn income forever.

Next, you need to know about variance. See this page: https://www.primedope.com/poker-variance-calculator/
What you see there are the results of simulating 100,000 hands in 20 sessions. Note the difference between the best and the worst.

Next, do you know how many different ways there are to arrange 52 cards?[1]
That number is 80658175170943878571660636856403766975289505440883277824000000000000
The universe has been in existence for 13 billion years give or take. That is 41023756800000000 seconds
That means that whatever random number generator you choose, if it could produce 200000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 different hands per seconds it would take longer than the age of the universe to pick each one.

I know it hurts that you lost some money, but it isn't logical to assume that someone is cheating you. Perhaps they are, but if so, then they are cheating everyone equally, so it is the same for everyone once again.

Finally: If you truly do not trust a particular site, then do not play there!

If however you like the game, and are truly interested in learning how to play it properly, you've come to the right place. "Playing it properly" means "not gambling" but making sensible decisions based on the cards, the odds and the other players' behaviour.

To get started, check out: No Limit Hold'em lessons overview

I wish you all the best,
VS

[1] If you're interested (and even if not) here is a video explaining the technique PokerStars uses to "shuffle" the cards

Edit: Here is another good discussion of randomness in poker:

And finally, a good reference for randomness in general:
