Hey everyone,

I’m new to this part of the forum, but not completely new to PokerStrategy. Around 7–8 years ago, when I was in my early twenties, I was quite active here and even created a couple of strategy videos for the site, which was a great experience.

After that, life took me on a different path and I decided to put poker aside for a few years. The game has always been a passion of mine, but sometimes priorities shift.

Back then, I mainly played NLHE tournaments. These days, however, my focus is fully on PLO cash games. Almost two years ago, my father passed away. He always believed that poker was just gambling, and I made it my mission to prove him wrong. That moment gave me the push I needed to fully dive back into the game. Since then, I’ve been putting in the hours, studying hard, and grinding with a clear purpose.

When I started my comeback, I jumped in at PLO10. Step by step, I worked my way up, and today I’m playing PLO200 and crushing it. For about a year now, I’ve also been playing “full-time,” treating the game as seriously and professionally as possible. My next big goal is to move up to PLO500 before the end of this year.

For the future, I’d like to expand my skill set again. Somewhere next year, I plan to start learning and playing PLO tournaments, which I see as the next exciting challenge in my journey.

I already keep a blog in the Dutch community here, but it’s been a bit quiet there. That’s why I decided to open this blog in English as well, to share my progress with a wider audience, and to hopefully connect with more of you who are on the same journey.

I’ll be posting updates on my grind, my study process, and some thoughts on strategy along the way. Feel free to drop by, leave a comment, or share your own experiences.

Looking forward to being active here again and to exchanging ideas with you all!

Cheers,

Jordy :f_drink:

Hey Vorpal, thanks! :f_biggrin:

After your suggestion I thought it would actually be a fun idea to join the Bankroll Challenge here on PokerStrategy. I’ll be starting with a $10k bankroll and set the target at $100k.

Looking forward to sharing the journey and hopefully reaching that goal together with the rest of the challengers!

Bankroll challenge week 1 update

Starting Bankroll: $10,000
Current Bankroll: $7,200
Goal: $100,000

Hey everyone,

The first week of my bankroll challenge is in the books! I’ve played around 10k hands so far, and honestly, it felt like one of those classic PLO weeks where everything seems to go against you. You know how it is, setups, coolers, and a few too many “really?” moments..

I started the challenge with a $10k bankroll and I’m currently down about $2.8k, which puts me at $7.2k. Not the start I was hoping for, but that’s PLO for you. Plenty of variance to keep things interesting.

This sample is a mix of $0.50/$1 and $1/$2 regular tables, along with some $1/$2 Rush tables on GG.

Here’s the graph from week one:

For those interested in the graph:

The blue line shows my actual winnings including rakeback.

The green line represents my results at the tables (without rakeback).

The orange line is my all-in EV.

On the bright side, I’ll be getting my weekly GG rakeback tomorrow, and there’s also some extra RB from my agency coming in later this month. Hopefully enough to heal a few of the wounds from this week :f_biggrin:

I’ve picked out a few hands from this week that I thought would be interesting to share.

Here’s an interesting hand from this week:

I’m in the big blind, and the BTN decides to stab multiway for half pot on a monotone flop. I choose to check/call rather than flop-raise. The reason is that a flop raise here would mostly isolate me against the nut flush and remove all of his bluffs, which isn’t ideal. By just check/calling, I keep his range wider and give myself more profitable opportunities. I have him tagged as an aggressive fish, so I expect him to barrel a lot of his naked Ax of diamonds hands, and if he actually has the nut flush, he’s definitely going to continue firing on the turn anyway.

All I was really hoping for was not to see the board pair.

As played, he lost his connection on the turn for about 60 seconds. The action was on me, and I even used two of my timebank cards, hoping he’d reconnect. Unfortunately, he didn’t make it back, and his hand folded due to the disconnect on the river.

Pretty unfortunate. This could easily have turned into a big pot against the nut flush, and potentially even a BBJ spot on the river if he somehow had 43 of diamonds.

Here’s another very unlucky runout I encountered. Pretty much had the board locked up. There could be some argument for folding on the river, as my opponent was very nitty and the player pool tends to heavily underbluff three barrels.

At the same time, I think I under represent my hand quite a bit in this spot and unblock a lot of KQT and high hearts type hands, which makes a fold less attractive. He could also still be valuebetting worse.

A bit unsure about this spot. I ran it through the solver, and it recommends jamming preflop, which makes sense from a solver perspective.

However, I don’t think the player pool will have the cold 4bets that the solver assumes to justify a preflop jam in this spot. Most of the time, it’s very likely we’re up against AA. We’re also a bit deeper than standard solver assumptions, which should also affect the decision. We flopped amzing in this hand, but unfortunately ended up losing both times.

That’s it for week one. Looking forward to seeing how week two goes, hopefully with a bit less variance and some better rungood!

Cheers,

Jordy
