I have only played on GGPoker.
Since both of those two partner with PokerStrategy.com I would venture to say that they are safe and reliable.
Rule #1: Follow all of the room's rules. Neglecting any of them will result in freezing — or even losing your bankroll.
In order to follow rule #1, you have to read and understand those rules.

I had a look at Hijack's pricing page.
If you're playing NL 100 (blinds of $0.50/$1.00) it will cost you $6.00 per hour to play.
If you're playing at a 6-max table, hands/hour is typically around 60.
They deduct 1/10 of the hourly every six minutes, so playing 100 hands will take about 100 minutes, which will cost you $10.
To break even, you would need a winrate at that stake of 10BB/100, which would mean you're a phenomenally good player.

Unless I did that math all wrong it sounds like a ripoff.

The other two rooms rake structure is based on a percentage of the pot.
GGPoker, for example, charges 5% of the pot as rake, and provides a rakeback system where you get some back once a week.
