Hi!

My name is Kristóf and I am from Hungary.

I have been playing poker since I was a child. Back in the days, I had a lot of success. I played 20-50$ DoN SNG-s, even made an ITM in a 500$ buy-in MTT and I have won many leaderboards (Eastern European Poker League on Pokerstars, and some Unibet LBs too).
Nowadays I am a rather recreational player. I am still winning a bit, but poker has become just a part-time activity for me. I play 5$ DoN-s on RedStar and some MTTs occasionally.

Since the Hungarian community here has been closed, I came to the decision to continue blogging in English.

Good luck at the tables!

Kristof. Good luck with your blog.
What do you like about DON's?
I think 1of the toughest poker formats to play.

Cheers,

Imo, this format requires the least luck and and the most strategy. It can be tough indeed but if you are good at it, your bankroll can grow steadily, hence I think this format is the best for multi-tabling. With a good rakeback system, you can gain a decent profit. Unfortunately, from Hungary only iPoker is accessible offering DoN and I don't really like the 6-max format.

To me, the toughest format is MTT... Sitting there for 4-5+ hrs and winning (if) a couple of buy-ins is truly devastating...

I understands. variance is less a factor in DON's if you compare with MTT's

In August, my net winnings was about 400 euros + about 200€ rakeback and other promotions. I play 5 tables simultaneously with 5€ buy-in. Hence the low variance, 30-40buy-ins is perfectly enough for this format.

Unfortunately, not many poker sites are available from Hungary. I don't like PokerStars and GG poker does not offer 'normal' SNG-s...

I like playing, and I don't make a living of this. Maybe in autumn, I will take a shot at the 10€ buyin

Not a bad achievement with playing €5 DON's as extra income.

It used to be really popular during the poker boom. Then I was playing 20$ DoNs on Pokerstars. I could make more money in an hour than my parents' weekly salary unfortunately, I was very young and impulsive then, so I did not take the max out of it.

Like ten years ago I was also playing DoNs on iPoker sites. Used to play 6 tables and cleared first deposit bonus on every site . But they are gone on almost every site. Maybe iPoker is the only one which is offering DoN.
Maybe I will give it a shot this evening.

I used to play them a lot on Partypoker. There was a coach on PokerStrategy.com that specialized in them.

It was a good format for tight, aggressive players.

Nothing much new under the sun. In September, I did not have much time to play poker, with the promotions, I could withdraw about 200€. I have much work now and I am a quizmaster twice a week, so (luckily) I had a more stable source of income.

I went to Italy at the end of September, visiting Torino, Milano and Genoa. It was a nice trip with a friend of mine and we watched some football matches, ate some good food and drank a lot of beer ;) In October, there won't be much poker either :)

Oh I started going to the gym as well, which takes another big chunk of my limited free time. I train with a personal trainer twice a week, and when I have time, I go there on my own as well.

good luck at the tables.

Hey guys. I decided to play cash game instead of DONs, because of the volume... And the first time ever in my life, I need help. For about 40K hands, I was breakeven, winning about 1.5bb/100. I know it is not much as I am new to this format and I sometimes make really stupid hero calls... Anyway, I am playing 6max NL10 on RedStar.

So, for about 3 weeks now, I just can't basically have a winning session. Today, I ran into AAs with KK and QQ preflop, and with a set into a bigger set. Whenever there is a big pot, I just lose them most of the time. And when I have AA or KK, I usually get a roundfold. According to ChatGPT, I am constantly running into coolers, and I don't blame luck. My EV totally correlates with my actual winning, and I usually use insurance when I go allin.

What stats do I need to post in order to get help?

After 72K hands, VPIP 18.84, PFR 13.45, 3bet PF 6.51, WTSD 23.06%, WSD 55.36. I am a winner from UTG, HJ, CO and BTN, but I am 0.4bb/hand from BB and 0.22 bb/hand from SB.

Any help is appreciated, I would like to get better and improve my game...

Thanks

Three consecutive losing weeks is fairly normal I think.
Your stats don't look bad.
Rather than stats, I suggest posting hands.
Not just hands were you lost, but rather post hands where you had a difficult decision.
If you can, include your thoughts as you played, and include stats if you have 'em.
Also, don't include results — even in a spoiler. If you do, most people will peek at them, and that will colour their comments. Rather, save the results in a text file or similar so that you can put them in later in the thread.

All the best,
VS
