Well I'm here once again to post a mini update. I played 4 k hands total on the weekend and today. Saturday ended nicely, but then Sunday brought alot of bad beats and made up for a -$25 day. The worst one was 88 vs AA, I hit my set on a T84 board, went all in there, and turn + river made the board T84TT and so my full house got beat. I was dominated preflop so I shouldn't be very dissappointed but it's called set value _cry:, It's not like I was going AI preflop.

And then today was a pretty good day, until the last few hands, were I was 150BB deep in a table, and faced a push with AA preflop. I called, villain shows KK and hits a set on the flop _cry:. Why does it happen when one is deeper than normal? But oh well I still ended as a + day, and I've played a total of 8 SnG's of $2+0.25 on FT and I managed these results: 1st 1st 2nd 2nd 2nd 3rd 5th 6th so not bad and nice ROI. These are the ones that saved my BR this weekend lol, and it still stands at $186, but my graphs are not very nice.

Tomorrow I'll keep grinding NL5, specially since I now have the FT Holiday Bonus to clear, and I need to put more volume in if I want to clear it on time since 'only' 50 FTP's per day just won't cut it.

Finally with the help of a fellow PokerStrategist and another friend, I managed to win an entry to the $20+2 $200K guaranteed tourney on FT through a $0.50+0.10 satellite, but I cashed in the Tournament Dollars instead and will hopefully put them to good use in tournaments like the 90 person deep stack $1 tourney, Daily Dollar and/or 9 person SnG's which proved very succesful yesterday and today.

Anyways thanks for reading, and here's to better luck when grinding NL5 for the Bonus. I'll definately need a much more anti-tilting mentality if I'm going to put in alot more volume to complete the bonus, and more hands can equal more profit but also more bad beats.

Keep up the good work Pablo, I'm playing NL5 6Max BSS as well at the moment, I play a little looser than the charts but Im finding I've had to tighten way up for NL5, Way to many people calling, and I find i have to really pick my spots to steal blinds. I had a $-25 day at the start of the month and basically been breaking even for the last 4000 hands!

I'm playing on titan I started with my $50 two years ago, built it up playing SSS but got bored! The site wouldnt let me cash out because of all the ps bonus's id recieved so i had to clear some points, I quit poker for a year then thought i'd grind the points get the 150 US or what ever out, started playing the low-stakes MTT's on titan griding the role to something like $240.00 decided to play NL10 6MAX BSS anyways took a while to adjust from SSS FR i liked to marry hands too much when i first started BSS however i think it's definately a leak i've removed! Anyway I dropped down to NL5 as a bootcamp for 10k hands! The game has surprised me mostly just tables full of maniacs I don't really play loose at all except for the odd steal, or c bet steal against weak villains.

Bottom line keep it up Pablo, Im so glad titan didnt let me cash out I cleared the points ages ago & I've found my motivation for poker again your blog puts us on similar journeys with similar goals I look forward to more posts from you! I think I'm going to start a blog in November want to just get my play more solid first !

Here's a hand for you its still haunting me, this guy was playing like a maniac and I finally thought i had him, I should of folded on the turn, I was hoping to check raise flop, this guy had been playing so bad it mad me play bad but i had a mental blank and just went for it! Hee-Hee! Sick The joys of NL5 villains!

Hehe you're running good compared to me! I have had 3 -$25 days in the span of a week, and I'm being a losing player in NL5 after 15k hands, which is something I really dislike since I beat NL2 quite easily with 12k hands. I'm definately going to reconsider everything in my game, as I believe I have found alot of leaks as of late, and I tilt much more easily than I thought. As you said, I'm going to have to tighten up very much for NL5, since I'm not getting the results I expected when I moved up.

Yup, I definately think I'm playing way too loose and as you put it, 'marrying' hands way too much. I find I chase down alot of draws when I don't have the right odds, and they rarely complete with my luck.

Thanks for the post mesorucky, very appreciated. I replied a few things up top directly in bold for you to check out. I look forward to improving every day even more, and today I realize I am playing FAR from my A game at this point, so I need to restudy articles, any and ALL probably, and play strictly with starting hands chart and nothing else if I want to be a winning player in NL5, which I currently am far from it. Even if it takes me 100k hands though, I WILL beat it.

I have been playing this past few days, and have honestly been getting ALOT of bad beats, but alot of them have been mostly due to me slowplaying made monsters that get sucked out on. I thought I had removed this mindset from me, but it seems I haven't yet, and I need to remember it's better to 'only' win 4 BB's than give away free cards and end up losing 100 because of it. I've also been playing at wrong times I think, i.e. in the morning, since alot of TAG European and Asian players show up. I will try to play mostly from this hour or a bit earlier onwards, to make sure I run into the least regulars possible. It's not that I'm afraid of them, but I keep running into sets or set over set waaay too many times, and I want to avoid these costly situations.

Finally here is now once again a true update. I have decided to change my mentality on for NL5 and play extremely tight. I have found many many leaks due to my loose play in previous sessions, and after today I heavily reduced the number of tables I was playing, to allow me to focus more easily. I also reread alot of the articles, and put special attention to the odds and outs one, which reminded me of alot of things I had forgotten and that might explain why I was losing money in my sessions.

I can also attribute a few to honest bad beats, like the hands I will now post, but these were inevitable and if I wasn't playing so loose, these would be my only losses instead of them being cumulative. So far after today's 1k hands session I'm break even at NL5, so I'm going to start from scratch starting tomorrow, and finally beat this level.

Thanks for reading, and tomorrow will be graph + progress report day! I will be having another session tonight, and I will try to do it very very late and see what type of players I encounter then, along with a session tomorrow morning.

I also have a live MTT tomorrow at a friends house. Attendance is expected to be of around 40 people, with a $20+2 entry fee and prizes to the top 3. It's gonna be tough, but me being the only Pokerstrategist there is definately a huge advantage. It's sure to be full of fishes, so I think it will come down to will I be able to win the crucial flips to come on top? I'll post a report about the tournament on Sunday. I'll definately try to study the MTT and ICM articles once more on Saturday before going to the tournament.

Reporting today after 2 sessions, 1 800 hands and 1 700 hands. Today was interesting, as my CBet had never been so effective, and I did some 3betlights on some opponents after reading a very interesting article by samy4ever from the spanish community. I'm very glad I have the facility of speaking more than 1 languaje as I don't think such an article is available for the english community and it's definately worth reading.

So here is my progress report for week 3 of serious Poker.

As you can see my road on NL5 has been very rocky, but I hope correcting my leaks (looseness and chasing odds without pot odds) will help me improve and beat this limit before the end of the year.

And as far as my goals go, some progress in some, in others not so much:
*Beat NL5 by getting 35 BI's for NL10. NEW! - Obviously working on it, but it's being hard. I need to understand not every day you can win 5+ BI's. I was spoiled by NL2.

*Qualifiy for Iron Man Silver in each month (December will be hard with all the events going on but I will still try). - So far going good. Moving to NL5 helped out and as long as I keep up the volume it looks like I will qualify for November. December is still uncertain but I will definately try.

*Move from 8 table multitabling to 10 and then 12 tables. RETRY! - As shown by my 3 negative days of the week, I still have a long way to go here, and decided it's very important for me to go back and improve my game rather than put in alot of volume, so I have come back down to 6-8 tables, meaning this goal is reset for now.

MTT's have gone to the backburner for now, since I want to make sure I have my A game on all the time, and I will dedicate more time to MTT's after I feel comfortable with my Poker skills once more.

I'm expecting $14 or so from rakeback, so it will put my BR at an all time high for me, which is always encouraging to see. I look forward to playing tomorrow in the afternoon with lots of :f_biggrin: :f_biggrin: around, and then the live tournament at night.

Thanks for reading everyone!

Well I didn't manage to play yesterday, and also had a session on Friday night which set me back to only a +0.48 gain for the day.

Yesterday's tournament didn't go so smoothly. I wasn't even able to play decently because I was card dead and players would call every street and would eventually donk. you can read about my tournament experience here: First 'serious' LIVE Poker experience report

Today in the morning I played a 3k hands session, and ended up +1 BI. I was almost 3 up at one point, but my A's got cracked by a set of 3's and I made a fishy AI with TPTK against another set. I ran KK vs AA twice AI preflop and both times I hit a K on the board. It was lame running into such hands twice in less than 500 hands though.

I'm having alot of dilemmas and weird situations at the NL5 tables, and I don't get what to do post-flop with TPTK. If you hit either card, make your CBet and get raised, what do you do in such spot? Are you always facing a set? An overpair? I think that's the hand I always have the hardest time playing, and I've been losing on alot of money alot of times where I go AI and face such cards, so I don't understand where it is OK to go broke with TPTK or if it's never OK to do so.

EDIT: forgot to mention I won a 90 person $1+0.10 tournament on Full Tilt, awarding me $22.50 extra for my roll, curretnyl at $256.

Hmm TPTK is a tough one at NL 5, back to what I was saying about maniacs, Analyse your villans more, I've seen an improvement just by keeping an eye out for extremely weak players or hyper maniacs, iso them get your hand bet they call, they bet into you call or raise :) With TPTK if the guys been tight well he's probably got something better if he's raising you. I've been making mistakes lately like had Pocket AA's got owned by a straight i mean i should have seen it! My KK's got done by JJ's on the river the other day as well I lol'd !!

Just keep working on your game as crazy as it is I've really learnt alot by playing NL 5 and i think it will help definately down the track! Like you said even if it takes 100K hands we'll get there! I've hit 5000 hands for the month, only 2 tabling! I've started 3 tabling now so much more +ev, i think i'll start 4 tabling at 10k hands NL 5. Im only using a small amount of tables because im still learning 6 max and BSS and titan client = crap for multitabling with my shit LCD will get new one asap this has to be -ev ha!

I think for 5000 hands this month im -4BI's its like a drop at the start of the month then a straight line for 5K hands LOL

Pablo man your roll is looking way decent! I like to play the odd MTT too :) You should definately be rolled for NL 10 soon, What Bankroll are you using ? I think i'd like to have about 40 Buy-ins for NL10 just so if i loose ten quickly can drop back to NL5 without the roll getting hurt to bad :) I played NL10 I lost -9BI's so fast I was way to loose and spewie! Graphs show the improvement :)

mesorucky - N¡Playing NL5 will help me but only for tilt control, because I keep getting owned in alot of hands and it's really frustrating. After 30k hands of NL5 being just break even is really lame and a bit discouraging...
GL on the tables man, hope you have better luck than myself in the future.

This NL5 BS is really pissing me off. All my sessions are very weird. I get reraised in weird spots, my opponents look like they always have the nuts, and the bad beats are everywhere... I'm getting sick of these kind of hands which simply ruin your session from a pretty decent one to a crappy break even one... My graph for this session looks ridiculous, and it seems like even though I do table selection, all the regs come over to my table and they always hit sets and stuff against me...

Dream start of a session, 10th hand!

If your playing well you'll hit your run where its you giving the punishment! The first hand I would of played the same as you, the second probably would have folded when he raised over the top but it depends on what they've been doing previously.

Your graph seems a lot swingier than mine are you winning much money with out showdown ? What site are you on ? Im on titan and its quite small on players. Lately NL 5 is two types of games Maniac or quite normal poker depending on villains. Make sure your adjusting your play depending on your tables, try playing a few less tables and try getting better reads on your opponents ?

Are you playing fullring ? that could be the difference Im playing 6max ?

I'm on Full Tilt, and yes I will go down in tables and stuff once I finish clearing the Holiday Bonus. $70 left to go. It's funny my roll has been increasing since NL2 but I'm still at +$0.00 in NL5 _confused:.

I guess the second hand I could've folded after he shoved, as even AJ has me beat there.

My graph does look swingy indeed, and yes I do win alot of pots without showdown. I always 100% do a CBet if I was the agressor preflop, it works so many more times than it fails that it is by far the best EV+ move there is IMO. I also raise any pocket pair from any position to have fold equity postflop, as limp/call makes the set too obvious for regs, and with fold equity generated by my raise preflop the CBet is even more EV+ with these type of hands, and when I do hit a set the pot is bigger and my hands strength is hidden a bit.

Heh had an incredibly tilting session and lost $40 today. I'm not enjoying playing at the tables, so I'm going to switch to SnG's for now or try reading PLO stuff. I don't know but I need a break from all the BS hands I keep getting.

No worries man it seems your playing very similar to me! Im running quite well comming into the end of the month, Im down -$16 for 6000 hands NL5 BS (I was -$40 approx at some point this month) don't see breaking even as failing big head fuck mistake! Man this is my second month well 1.5 months of playing BS and 6 max in one go a huge learning curve! My graph is something I'm proud of because so far I'm not a loosing player thats what keeps me going every mistake or time I'm beat I either learnt something because I made a mistake or it was bad luck and I laugh! Take a few days off IMO and just chill, I just checked my poker stats on ps for the month in the last 32 days I've taken 5 days off that's not much So Im gonna put in time with the girl for the last few days of the month and call it a success rather than trying to grind silver on titan im 200 points short, or clear 10 bucks rake back or get the 3.2 BI's back for a 0 month! it doesnt matter you know there will be next month and more hands and the progress will continue! I find everything needs balance man you'll play better for sure.

I love your point about the C-bet man i agree in position its even more gold I make sure I don't over use it and yeah man great stuff, to other ps people if your playing with us haha just kidding pablo and me are maniacs :) I have a leggopoker subscription as well it has totally changed my game well worth the monies +ev !

Also because Im in Australia titan is only good for me at the moment because Im working evenings and play through the night however during our sunlight hours here its awful like 4000 players online usualy only 2 tables of NL5 6max so I have to move asap! Im thinking of depositing fulltlit I have to enquire into rake back with them first never had a Realmoney account with them so hopefully i can ship it :)

Looks like you have the correct attitude mesorucky. I guess I'm being too results oriented when it comes to my NL5 run, but after 20k hands it's difficult not to be.

Today I decided to mix it up and try SNG's, and this is how today went:

All $2+0.25 BI:
9 man SnG's: 23
18 man SnG's: 1
HU SnG's: 1

Total spent: $56.25
Total won: $47.20
ROI: -17%

My ROI decreased badly since I didn't cash in the last 5 SnG's in a row, finishing 4th, 5th, 5th, 7th and 8th. Oh well tomorrow is another day, and I definately enjoyed playing in these more than in NL5. I think I was stealing too much and bluffing too much, which made me end up in 4th and 5th way too many times today.

After yesterdays failure of 25 SnG's and 12 4th places, I decided to give the tables another go after my tilting session in NL10. I only opened 4 tables total, 3 NL10 and 1 NL5. The session was alright, pretty calm and although I was card dead for like an hour, I ended up +$7 or so. There was only one lame hand where I lost AA vs a set of 5's againt a shortstack but everything else was standard play. I only hit a set once though in all session which was incredibly lame since I didn't get payed off.

Here are some hands which I thought were interesting from the session:

I had a very weird session today, and I was very very close to tilting I think, as I was -4 BI's at one point although only 1 of them was a bad beat. Finally things started going my way and I was able to push up and make it a +2 BI's session. One hand in particular left me wondering, and I'm not sure if my push was justified.

Here is the hand:

[tg]Hero$5.00:///////;MP3$4.81:///////;[/tg]

River: ($9.69) 8♥ (1 players)

Final Pot: $9.69

Results follow (highlight to see):
Hero shows carta alta as con kicker rey (Qs As)
MP3 shows trío, cuatros (4c 4d)

MP3 wins with trío, cuatros (4c 4d)

On the turn I improve to the nut flushdraw + an A overcard, but with only 1 card left to go, I think my push was a very bad play.

Oh well it feels nice to now I can recover from such a run, and kind of boosts my confidence which I really needed. I know I have leaks, but with they way I'm playing I shouldn't be losing so much as I currently am, specially after so many hands.

This coming week will be a very tough one due to lots of things to do at school, so Poker might be taking a back seat. After this week though, it's Christmas break, and I'm definately going to study alot and watch lots of videos to improve my game. On another note I managed to qualify today for Iron Man bronze, so that's $25 more for the end of year bonus in January, + I still have $70 to clear from the Holiday Hundred, so hopefully my BR will be moving on up nicely in the next few weeks.

Thanks for reading,

Pablo

Grats Pablo,

As all great players say you have to push through it and keep playing! Over the last few days as I took a break I've made the decision! (Sorry Pablo IF i've hijacked your blog) But yeah Titan Poker is finished 15,000 hands played journey over! They have earned their money back via my rake and tonight I cashed out in syle :) There were a couple of $5 & $10 ($2500 Guaranteed re-buy tourney's) on this evening Australian time only 100 entrants so i thought death or glory time it was time to gamble my roll.

Anyways three hours later bubbled on both for a total of $30 was fun! This left me with about $40 in my titan roll so I bought into NL50 wow seriously Pablo this was ment to happen I got a glimpse at the higher tables sure it was only a few hundred hands but its soooo different from NL5 its real poker! I mean like i turned my 30 into 80 into 50 into 90 then got KK and thought DEATH or GLORY im ALL IN, JJ beat me! I didnt even care 18 buy ins at NL5 and I was awoken! Keep grinding what we learn here playing maniacs has to be +ev!

Anyhoo! finding out now if i can get rake back and tracked on Full Tilt with PS will keep you up dated! I've decided to deposit $300! @ Full Tilt! In the new year gonna take december off going to be away on holidays for pretty much the whole month so no point playing! I spent the last 3 weeks deciding Stars or Tilt, decided Tilt def if i get rake back, however as i climb the levels I'll probably start playing on stars if the VIP stuff is worth it depends! I think 27% rake back at tilt will be better for grinding the levels! Gonna play NL5 on tilt with $300 to try clear bonus! If not working will SSS as well NL25 try get the bonus break even then take a stab @ NL10 if BR >$390!

Thats it from me Pablo! Hope your december is great! November for me is a success I know my steal and C-bet is good enough for 6-max I really encourage you to take ur game to 6max! its way more +ev! Im breaking even on a terrible site hopefully FT will allow me to play more during the day here so up goes the graph! Merry Xmas, will update and rail you during Dec, but i doubt ill be playing till 01/2010 Peace!

Dude, you hit nothing and had one card to go on the river! If you went all in on the flop perhaps! But this kinda play at the turn is -Ev I'm sure maybe a coach can get us here ? Post in review forum see what they say! But yeah 1 in 4 over the long run I'm sure that was the wrong move!

Tonight I raised A 10s and flopped 2 spades went all in beat AK villain paired his K i flushed him that was at NL50 lol soooo much fun! Anyhoo Im a noob just my view but its always easy to review a hand and see the mistake i think the objective should be to realise during the present and fold :) Easier to get them next time!
