The freezing problem, well, in short: You cannot use PT3 databases with PSElephant. It's like teaching a child how to read english and than giving it a chinese book to read. 
Just replace
Under "Enter the database name" just click on a magnification glass icon. It should pop-up the small window with PT3 DB in the list. Select it and confirm (OK).
with
Under "Enter the database name" just enter a name for your database and confirm (OK).
and it should work fine.

Well yes it is you google for some tutorial to do it but thats a little bit difficult.

So downloading PT3 first somehow helps this problem of unloaded db's in the postgresql?

I believe reinstalling postgreSQL should work,
