NL5 - 8 Tables - Each round costs 0.56 to play in blinds.

Odds of getting dealt QQ or higher or AK is only 2.56%.

Okay you can times that by 8 if you are playing 8 tables, but it's still 2.56% per table, and you are not going to win everytime with these hands. Just stick to the starting hands chart if you are unsure, only playing 4 hands is an almost pathetic approach, that will lose you money.

Even the SSS strategy is looser than this.

Still laughing at only playing 4 hands.

So at micros you get a few bad beats, if you are playing playing properly you should still work your way into profit and stay there. These are the limits where you should be honing your reading skills, not playing as few hands as possible.
If anything you should open your range wider than the starting hands chart, but this would require you to be able to put you opponents on a hand range, play well post flop, have good pot control, put bluffing out of your head (unless you are playing a reg who you have a good knowledge of), be able to lay down semi-decent hands and have a good knowledge of the game or at least a half-decent one.

There's no point calling down someone (or betting into someone) with an 80% VPIP when you only have a mediocre hand because as the stats suggest, he'll just call you.

OP how many hand have you played at this limit?

Don't agree that you should use the starting hand charts for NL2\NL5. The starting hand chart is too loose for these limits because the players never fold. If you raise QJo over 4 limpers on the btn you are getting called by at least 2 people and then if you don't hit you won't be taking the pot down with a c-bet very often.

There is no need to play anything but the big 4 and then all pp's. Steals or jumping in with good odds holding suited connectors or whatever really isn't necessary.

I am in no doubt that sticking to the shc would be profitable long term but it would bring way more variance than most newbies are ready for.

There's nothing wrong with playing like a super nit at the lowest limits to build a roll and then loosen your range a little each time you move up a limit.

The reason people are always crying that they can't beat the micro's is because they're often finding themselves in a 3 bet pot with some marginal holding against 2 or 3 fish. Hero may well have the mathematical edge but if it's only 10% or something this is going to take many hands to show and in the mean time hero is going to be suffering some head bashing variance which usually leads to bad play and hero being unsure of whether or not they're doing the right thing.

At NL2\NL5 the players will pay you off so often when you have a monster that you really do not need to get yourself in to marginal situations.

i feel for the OP.

I recently moved up to 4nl after playing some 30k hands at 2nl, and I'm actually finding it much easier. People seem to be thinking more, can find a fold from time to time and there are far fewer drunk, random "all-in pre with 86s" type situations and so on.

I understand that a lot of the weird situations you run into at 2nl are super profitable, of course, but when you hit a 8 buyin downswing due to superdonk luckboxes hitting all kinds of random hands, it can tilt you somewhat. You just have to abide by the mantra of "decision counts, results irrelevent" and ride it out.

Hey, man. I've played 50k hands and managed to have a 8BB/100 winning rate.

In that case you doing well, I myself am running at 6.47/100 over 28k hands and feel that the beats I am getting are just natural, keep with it and just do what you are doing you'll get there. :)
