you should fear not doing everything you can to succeed
It might have been said already (what hasn't? ♦) but i thought of this quote today. It's true for me and maybe many people. I have such a fear of failure and not succeeding that it will discourage me to actually try my best and hardest at something. I will just worry so much and over analyze everything and then convince myself the situation is a lost cause that i won't bother doing everything i can to make it work. A much better approach to life is to stop worrying and doing everything you can to make it better. If you still fail you can at least say you did everything you could and have no regrets. While when you give up you will always have that feeling of regret and think "What if i tried harder?"
Probably one of my favorite verses from a rap song is from: Lupe Fiasco's - Words I Never Said. One of my favorite lines is "Fear is such a weak emotion, that's why i despise it". Which ofcoure relates to the subject i already mentioned so i won't go in depth about that..
I think that all the silence is worse than all violence
Fear is such a weak emotion, that's why I despise it
We're scared of almost everything, afraid to even tell the truth
So scared of what you think of me, I'm scared of even telling you
Sometimes I'm like the only person I feel safe to tell it to
I'm locked inside a cell in me, I know that there's a jail in you
Consider this your bailing out, so take a breath inhale a few
My screams is finally gettin free, my thoughts is finally yellin through
For the ones interested in just that verse it starts at 3:22 although the whole song is worth listening too
So that's what i'm going to be doing from now on. Trying to look life in a more positive way and keep reminding me of awesome quotes like this.. Or think of my own like this one ♦ That being said. The last few days i've been very lazy and gaming a ridiculous amount of hours. But going back to poker grinding now ♠_cool:
So it's been a while since i posted my hands mostly because i wasn't really that focused playing last month at all. And barely reviewed any hands because i was making up excuses that it wasn't necessary at all
So let's go!
This was probably one of my best reads this session. standard cbet. I could cbet more cause it's such a drawheavy board but i haven't really figured out on what exact boards i want to do it on. Since i will have to stay consistent with it to stay unexploitable. I can't just bet more with strong hands on drawheavy boards and bet less with draws for example. Anyway.. the check/raise surprised me a bit since it was one of the first hand that hu. It was very small reraise so i didn't really know what to think of it. I imagine 7x, 9x, draws and air. Now if it was 3x i'd probably think of his range as 9x, TT+ and very strong combo draws. So mostly made hands that want me to fold draws. The A of diamonds comes on the turn this is what makes this hand interesting.. So he decides to check the turn after check/raising the flop. So he is either afraid of the flush card and has 9x, TT+ or is trying to trap me. I don't assume people trap me or make creative plays like that unless i have reason too so i cross that one out. I basicaly beat his whole range with my pair of aces. Now how do i get value out of it? If i bet he thinks i have the flush and folds all hands i get value from + A is a scare card itself. I decide to check behind there aren't much scare cards that can come on the river since i hold the OESD with my 8 but another diamond would be very bad both to get value and it's a scare card for me. Very safe river he bets half pot and i just call. I don't really think much worse is calling me if i raise. So i'm really not sure whether calling or raising is the best option. It is possible he might play a flush draw that way but i think i'm ahead here very often. But i don't see 9x or TT+ calling raises here often with the A and K on the board. So i think i'm leaning towards calling is better. I probably got max value out of it so i'm very happy about how i played ♦ would have gotten all his chips if he T hit on the river though.
As for his play. I think check/raising is good but doing it as little as he did is very bad imo.. this allows me to see a turn card very cheaply and i won't be folding any hands he wants me to call with. even if he 3x 3bet me as he should i wouldn't be folding flush draws as i get nearly correct odds.. + the value i can get from him even when i hit them like you see here makes it +EV to call for me even if he 3xed and i had a flushdraw. i'd rather have seen him bet out the turn to try to represent the flush since that's his only chance at winning this pot unless i miss all my outs if i did have a straightdraw. If i do have the flush draw then i already win and if i don't have it it allows me to make an easy bluff that he simply can't call. So by checking he's giving up the hand. Not to mention he's allowing me to draw cheap. The river bet is simply very bad.. There's nothing he can get value from perhaps 9x from a very bad player. It's so likely he's beat here that check/folding is the right play here regardless of how he played the turn.

This hand is somewhat interesting but fairly standard for me. Standard pfr and cbet. He was floating my cbets an aweful lot the whole match and it was starting to annoy me.. It really felt like he was floating like 80% of my cbets and then betting out on the river alot of those times causing me to fold. I was just missing every board so i was getting a little annoyed by it. So while he played fairly fit or fold.. always showing something. I was thinking he simply can't have it that often and winning this pot will give me a big advantage for the rest of the match allowing me to shove and still have enough over for a comeback. So seeing the pot size it was a pretty good time to second barrel considering the amount he floated my cbets.Unfortunately i didn't really think it through that much.. and i didn't have a plan for the river since i convinced myself that he was going to fold that turn.. I was really surprised when he did call it. And i'm pretty sure he had Tx or maybe 8x here. Luckily for me the river saved me with another club. Obviously and Jx or Qx would have been good too. So in reality i had 15 outs which is not too bad. I instantly jam and he makes the tough laydown he's been wanting to make all match. Patting himself on the back thinking what a lucky fish.
I should focus on having a plan for the whole hand in the future more.. I usually do have it. But i do need to consider every single possibility and in this case i simply didn't because i thought he wasn't ever going to call the turn in my head. Which is obviously very unrealistic. What i do like alot is how fearlessly i play. I have no fear of losing or putting in my whole starting stack with Q high if i think it's the right play. This gives me a great advantage over many players who give up their bluff when they should continue because they're scared. And then talk themselves into it that i have something.
This guy was pretty loose aggressive. I knew he was capable of making large bluffs with air. Standard 3bet. I could opt to trap him by check/calling here. What was interesting about this guy was that he was very impatient. I almost went cowboymarco on him but decided against it
So i thought extra long before betting so he'd think i was weak and he reraises me just as i planned. Betting instead of calling also allows me to protect my hand from flush draws. He simply isn't reraising me with anything that beats ATX here. So it's always a bluff possibly a semibluff with a flush draw since there aren't my 6x hands that call a 3bet preflop exept A6 in which case he would probably just call the flop anyway. So how do i get the most value from him. I can't reraise else we're all in and that doesn't give him a good spot to continue his bluff. So i decide to just call.. think extra long on the turn.. I was really expecting him to shove all in here. That would be the correct way to play the hand. What he did is just terrible. betting 1/5th the pot? i mean come on? really? This what i meant the last hand with nothing pulling through with your bluff. So i was thinking is he really going to fold the last 420 more in a 2580 pot? Seeing as how bad he was i thought he probably would. But since he bet so little i thought he might have a flush draw that i can get some value from so i reraise and unfortunately he folds. I think i played the hand great and probably got close to max value on it. He may have fired the river again for the last 420 but i'm not sure of that.
While i don't mind his flop reraise because it misses alot of hands.. my 3bet range consists of ALOT of Ax hands so it really isn't the best flop to do it on but still somewhat good. The problem is it leaves you with stacks that you have to shove it all in every single turn or you give up the hand. Shove or fold.. nothing else. So his turn bet is terrible.. bet/folding the worst way to play it here. Another option is to just shove flop especially if you don't have the balls to pull through a big bluff by shoving the turn then that's a way better option.. the pot is big enough and basicaly only Ax is calling here.

This was quite an interesting match.. All hands below from that same hu sng.
First hand of the match. I cbet he calls.. on a board like this i'm just giving it up when i have air myself. But especially on that J turn. Then he bets 300 into 260 pot on the river.. now this really had me confused.. why bet so much? this really didn't make any sense to me. Maybe Jx or Ax.. even then it's weird to overbet pot.. I decided to just fold since it was the first hand of the hu sng. He said he had the nuts when i asked.

This was the third hand of that hu sng. I didn't believe he had a strong hand in the hand above So i decided to play this hand a bit differently. I flop Top pair with decent kicker.. pretty much the nuts in hu sng. Standard cbet.. I thought he had like Kx and Qx. Flush draws are likely to fold to a second barrel and Qx probably too. So to get the most value out of the hand and considering he played the first hand so weird i was hoping he'd overbet the river again. So 5 turn. complete blank. Then he donkbets 40.. which is pretty weird.. i thought it might be like a small blocker bet so i raise for value and then he minraises me. I talk to see if i can get some information from him. He said he had the nuts again.
I really wasn't sure what he had at this point. I thought it was likely he had a strong Kx hand or air. The turn and river are so extremely blank though and after that first hand i was really curious to find out what he had. I decide to make the call anyway. Even just for the information i get from it it will be worth paying those 200 chips..
So this is what makes this hu sng so interesting. I played both hands the same way yet he decided to overbet pot one hand and bet 40 then minraise on the other. He claimed he had the nuts both times. However i find most people are extremely polarized in spots like this and will not play the nuts so differently. So by doing this i figure out what he does with air and what he does with the nuts. So i find out he sucks out on me. And that he minraises the nuts.
What's surprising is.. i really lost the minimum i could have this hand. Just calling the 40 bet would have been a mistake since i'm giving up a lot of value so i'm very happy with how i played it

Standard raise.. pretty bad flop for me since it's really hard to get action on more then 1 street. I cbet anyway for value and protection. Now the turn comes the K of spades.. this is a really bad card for me. Both Kx and Qx, Ax of spade hands now beat me. So i really didn't know what to do.. Who's going to call that flop bet without a spade? He had shown both maniac and callingstation tendencies throught the hu sng. And because i knew he minraised the nuts i bet the turn to figure out what he has. If he minraises he has the nuts. if he calls he doesn't. Plus this doesn't give him the chance for an easy bluff. So if i check here i basicaly give up the hand. I'm really not sure how strong i should consider my J high flush but i think of it as quite weak on a board like this. Perhaps that's a mistake and i'm too cautious when i don't have a very strong flush though.
he calls.. i valuebet my J high flush and he pays it off. I was pretty surprised he had K6 with no spades at all however. But i soul read him so badly i could valuebet the third nutflush in this hand.

Here i made a terrible mistake..
Spoiler
Even though his preflop call with 23o is infinitely worse.. This is where i realised how bad of a passive station he really was. Great flop for me, i'm hoping he has Ax so the hu sng is over. He minraises me.. I know i'm beat here.. yet i can't help myself and raise him all in for the last 200 more in a 600 chips pot. There's is absolutely no hand in his range that i beat except A4 so it was really bad play by me.

Here i soul read him again ♠_cool: he isn't checking behind Ax on the flop and he definitely isn't betting 90 into a 60 pot with anything else then a bluff. Then he bets potsize on the river. I snapcall with my K high and take down the pot. And my suspicion that he potbets/overbets it a little with bluffs is confirmed.

Wow what a long post.. Really happy about how i played overall. Think i made just one major mistake that session which was that A5 hand. Still need to work on volume. But my mindset is good, my reads are excellent, i'm playing well and i'm running good so what more can i ask for? Unfortunately my husng.com membership did expire and i forgot to download all the videos so that's pretty lame.. i do got some left.. but i'm not planning to sign up again this month probably.
