I read again and i agree that although I am not 100% sure it does look dodgy

Basically, he wanted to make a bet on a boxing match and wanted the other guy to send him the money before the match. Ofc, after losing the bet, he didn't ship his part. So yeah, pretty much trying to scam himself a few beers...
