Attended a wedding this morning, my offiicemate's. The officiating priest was an articulate one. He asked the couple if they were there to get married, and their beaming answer was YES! Then he asked all married people in the church to raise their hand and asked them, is it easy or difficult being married. The crowd then says DIF-FI-CULT! Then asked back the couple "and you want to get married?" Now we heard a weak "yes", chuckles all around ♦

Now playing FPP tourney, can't do much without a BR.
One thing I realize about BRM:

If you stick to the correct limits according to BRM and still lose it, it's not a BRM problem, there is a leak that needs fixing.

also, i think all poker players have a leak that needs fixing anyhow. it just differs how big and how many there are.

Was able to join the World record tourney of Stars last night (eh dawn!). Did not last long due to this hand. Below is AFAICR:

SB/BB: 50/100

SB and BB about 1.2k each but just sitting out very time.
Chill is UTG3 with 1.6K
MP2 with 1.3k
BU with 1.2K

Chill gets A Q , open at 300
MP2 calls
BU calls
blinds fold.

Flop: Q 8 2

so Chill bets out another 300
however suddenly MP2 goes all-in, so with BU!

at that instant I was thinking what could they have? and only possibilities that
came to mind was they probably had Q with another kicker (and I had the best kicker), or one of them may be drawing to a flush, so what to do?

Eventually I called.

turn and river was something like K and 3

so MP2 cards shows K J
and BU's: 10 7

first glance shows they missed their draws, but later saw overcard from MP2 got my queens

So question is did I play the flop correctly? should I have folded?
Did they play their draws correctly? Should I use their approach in a similar situation (all-in with a flush draw)?

you played it perfectly. you read them just like a book. so what if they hit their overcard. it happens all the time. as long as you put your chips ahead you did your job as a poker player put the rest to luck.

if you put it this way. if your read is someone have a set and you still call that's bad. for me i always trust my instinct. if my instinct said they are in a draw, always call for me because im ahead you need to put your chips in when your ahead and then fold when your behind.

Hi Chill,been playing about 20 months,lost my roll on FT (cost me my car) managed to start again on stars in september.Been grinding the 50c 45man turbo's with an ROI of 36% and now playing the $1.50 45's with my roll at $450(up $350).
About the hand,preflop good,postflop you bet $300 into a pot of $900 that was too small and looked weak.to protect your hand you have to bet at least $600 with the intention of getting it all in after the turn or shoving all in postflop as you are already committed.
The MP2 player has a flush draw so he has to call and that comits him.He thinks he has 12 outs (FD plus overcard) which gives him about 48% chance of improving so he shoves hoping to get you to fold or hitting something,this gives BU the correct odds to call with his FD so he does.At this point I dont think you can fold $700 into a pot of $3100.
Anyway you got your money in good and thats all you can do

Thanks for the comment and advice. "So what,,, It happens all the time" I like that, it's just maybe I have not played that much volume to realize it.
And also put chips when ahead and fold when behind, see sometimes I have it the other way around, when someone goes AI, I fold even if I got very good cards; and after the showdown say gee I had the best hand there. too scared of getting out of the tournament I guess ♦

Thanks for the input, yeah the $300 looks rather weak now I see (maybe even shoving is better next time...). Ah the overcard outs added to his flush outs made for a better chance in this situation, will consider this too.

Sorry to hear your loss at FT. I started there too and while having the slightest idea how Holdem should be played, started playing NL25. Now you can imagine how disastrous that was! Am now playing at Stars and PP, now NL2 to re-learn the basics. Actually at this point I have not really found which game I'm more effective with (FL, NL, SNG, MTT). Still moving around depending on my mode, they are all fun to play anyway. My only concern is my winrate, it's called lossrate

Good for you, 36% ROI is already very high! Glad to know that possbility is also there even for late bloomers Keep it up mate!

Hello all!

It's been two weeks of no deposit and playing in the super-micro stakes. And miraculously did survive, though at one point had only $0.02! Well I did get my new Visa yesterday after a looong wait and did the natural thing "Deposit!" ♦
I felt like the I was in the desert and then suddenly rain fell over me, ooohhh what a feeling.

Playing super-micro stakes did teach me some things thankfully:

1. the value of every single cent; imagine wanting to play the Stars world record MTT for $1 which was coming up in 12 hours, and have only $0.28?! NO mistakes allowed! Every cent counts!

2. reduced my bluffing tendencies; played about 2 hours MTT to get $1, play it in NL2, 1 bluff, 1 stack gone in 5 minutes grrrrrr. Too many bluffs = lose.

3. other sources that can help without depositing, freerolls, use poker room points.

4. learn MTT cheaply ($0.02, $0.1 MTTs)

5. FL2 (first) and NL2 is a good starting point for newbies.

If a newbie deposits $300, can he immediately play NL10 for example? Yes he can if he likes, but I guess the question should be, should he play at that limit? My answer to that would be, it depends, if he knows for sure that he can beat that limit, the limit before that and the limits further underneath.
I actually started playing first time at NL25! bust then try NL10, then NL4, and then NL2 And now at NL2 I still have to prove I can beat this limit, am seeing that as one of 2012 goals.

So NL2, here goes....
