Stacks:
UTG (69k)
CO (190k)
BTN (167k)
PtiiiPtaaa (SB) (308k)
BB (115k)

Blinds: 4k/8k Ante 800

Pre-Flop: (16k, 5 players) PtiiiPtaaa is SB 8♣ 9♠
2 folds, BTN raises to 16k, PtiiiPtaaa goes all-in 308k,

So here we are on the final table of a $3R 180.

We are decently stacked, and have the chiplead.

About the hand:
Button opens, which wasn't the first time. The player is a solid winning regular at the $3R 180's. His vpip/pfr was 17/14. I only have a 52 sample on him, so it really says nothing. But every extra information can help a little bit.

This seem to me as a very good resteal spot. Knowing that i can't bust this hand. Plus the fact he has to fold a little bit more then normal, since there is a bit of a shortstack hanging around. (Not that short though).

What do you think about this spot for a repush?

I don't mind it. Maybe a little loose for me here

Great spot to resteal, solid regular might be as wide as ATC in this spot. Also, it's not necessary to shove, you can make it ~35,000 and just fold if he 4bet shoves. Regulars very rarely flat 3bets!

I prefer the shove to the 3f/fold, saving the sized 3b for top n bottom range, 89 plays pretty well when we're called by AJ etc. LP stats would for more informative.

He guys,

Thnx very much for your replies.
Never thought about 3bet/folding in this spot.
I will be mixing it up, and add this to my game :)

You're welcome :) Just be quite picky for spots, have in mind that randoms will flat 3bets and also take notes if a reg flats, especially if you get to showdown and see his hand.

Overdoing it might cause people to 4bet light(there definitely are some regs capable of doing that), however it might be good when you get the nuts and can induce light 4bet shove :)

@dangermowse: the problem with shoving is that we're risking a lot of chips and we won't even have 30% equity vs reasonable calling range (A8 is even worse than 98o tho, assuming he's calling AJo+, ATs+, 77+ and obv worse if he's tighter). And so when he calls, we're going to lose huge amount of chips really often, however i would expect him to 4bet shove similar range to calling, which means that instead of losing half of our stack, we lose only 35,000 or whatever we make it. Shove becomes better when we know he's capable of light 4bet, however in that case i would just fold, preserve my stack and use it to abuse others :)

Hmz, i was thinking about this for a while. But then this came to my mind.

If he knew we could possibly ever 3bet light in this spot (and if someone sees me doing this 2nd/3th time, they will probably consider me being 3betting light.

What would his range be for flatcalling in this spot?

I honestly think he is slowplaying every single time then. He won't be flatting AQ/AK, cause of playability postflop. But QQ+ i imagine he will flatcall preflop.

So when he actually flatcalls our 3bet, aren't we supposed to just c/f every single flop? (And thereby losing the chance of finding out what hands he is calling pre)

+1
but i prefer 40k

@bonebt: sure, it's fine to make it 40k too :) However reg is unlikely to rebluff often, so you can save few chips by making it smaller :)

@PtiiiPtaaa: I think it's very unlikely that reg will flat, believe me it's rare :) However if he does happen to flat, i would still make a cbet (a little more than 1/3rd of pot), because we can't really know if he indeed has nuts. There are a lot of weakish regulars who might just flat KQs and fold when they don't hit :)

About his calling range, i can't answer that, it really depends on a person and even the same person might not necessarily have a predefined range :)

Also, from my personal experience, it takes 3-4 small 3bets at one table to induce a light 4bet shove, however, it's just what i usually see and it doesn't mean it's always correct :) There are few opponents who can make correct assumption and just 4bet shove first time, but i don't think you should be much worried about that(very few people capable of that). Having 3bet bluff range vs good regs is great because they will pay you off more often when you have the nuts!

He Bigniux!
Thnx a lot, nice post !

One thing that pops into my mind directly --> If we assume a reg is rarely just calling pre (which i agree you are right) , is it possible to make a smaller 3bet? For instance 1.7X his open?

Interested in your thoughts about this :)

Hmm, it becomes close then, because when you make it that small, it's more likely he'll flat. But i think trying it out shouldn't be bad because people still fold :)

One thing i can add about sizing. I always raise it by potsize. For example, in this hand after BU makes it 16,000, the pot is 32,000 so i would make it 36,000 total(whether i bluff or have nuts). By doing that your 3bet bluff needs to work 50% of the time to be breakeven.
