When I was about 15 or 16 a feral cat got into the crawl space under our house -- under my bedroom in fact.
The cat had had a litter of kittens under there, and we found out about them by the noises.
The girl next door and I crawled in to try to get them out, but Mum cat was trying to protect the kittens and put up quite a fight. We both got scratched up a bunch, but we did get the cat and kittens out.
The Mum cat was so starved that she had insufficient milk for the little ones, which I supposed is why they were making so much noise.
I've no idea what happened after that. No animal rescue places in our tiny town.
How could a beautiful cat got thrown out is beyond me. Glad good people found them.

A common thing is that people who have a cat get forced out of their home for whatever reason, and the only accommodation they can find doesn't permit pets.
Animal shelters here are overwhelmed.
Also, some cats escape on their own.
Cats are really smart animals i think, but it's really bad some people don't know what they doing if they wants a animal.
We have had several cats.
The first 3 or 4 were "outside cats" -- they were allowed outside as much as they wanted.
All of them died outside.
One was eaten by an owl we think. I found a black-and-white owl pellet when I was mowing the lawn. There was a Great Horned Owl that lived in a tall pine tree by our house.
The second we don't know. It just never came home one morning.
The last cat ate something poisonous -- the vet thought it might have been anti-freeze.
After that we had no cats for 15 years or more.
So when we got our current cat, we decided that it would be an "inside cat" and not go out at all.
This not only protects the cat, but protects the songbirds that live in the woods next to our house.
Besides, there were lots of mice for him to catch when we first got him.
They're all gone now...
I see. Hopefully you have a big house. Cats need to have some space. In my appartement isn't enough space for animals I think. Around 42M2.
The house has two floors, and several large windows that they like to sleep beside.
One cat really likes to spend time in the garage -- no idea why, but perhaps there were mice in there.

Cats likes to hide as well if they wants to sleep.
Our cats like to crawl into bags and boxes.

That's the same with our cat.
