I'm guessing #2
Primrose will be visiting tomorrow, but we don't have any formal live challenges planned - except for taking another shot at playing Super Mario Land while taking other shots. ![]()
There probably won't be any other kinds of challenges until the weekend... so if anyone else is reading, feel free to have another guess at this week's Troll Trivia in the meantime, like Vorpal did. It will be more fun if there are multiple people guessing against each other.
Today's meet-up was just what the doctor ordered... assuming it's one of those doctors who don't consider alcohol abuse a problem... ![]()
I mentioned the Super Mario Land drinking game, but we were actually "pre-gaming" a little with some mead, including some hot mead which was a little more similar to mulled wine, but with honey. Mead seems to be a good alternative to beer for the gluten-intolerant Primrose, to have a drink that lasts longer, with a lower ABV than most kinds of liquor. I will try to stock up on it a little - if nothing else, it's a good opportunity to bring out the drinking horns, which we actually didn't use today.
We did play some Super Mario Land later on, but after seeing how Prim plays when she's going in sober, I decided that it's better to do another co-operative attempt instead, which was another clear win for the Trolls, of course. It can be considered practice for Primrose's challenge of doing the same on her own by the end of the year.
It's a slow start into 2023, I guess, but it felt really good for both of us, after not being able to meet last month. Especially for me, after having to spend so many hours lately at places I don't want to be at with people I don't want to be with, it was extremely refreshing to finally be able to spend a day with a person I do want to be with at home. ![]()
There will be some poker this weekend, I think.
It was so nice to have a "just for fun" meet-up without challenges.
WeΒ΄re just starting the year, IΒ΄m still on vacation and itΒ΄s still off-season.
Even though outdoor-sports would indeed be possible with this super mild weather (which is not really winter), December and January are always my "lazy" months. I do less sports, I enjoy being lazy and relaxing. So it was perfect to do whatever we like and have some fun (and booze!). Interestingly, I do not have a hangover today.
True, the weather is very mild over here right now. Combined with the dreary darkness of January, those aren't normally the best conditions to put you into the most productive mood. If it was snowing outside, at least that would have some unique winter flair, but this cool, mostly sunny weather during those few hours of daylight while much of nature is still in hibernation mode is neither fish nor fowl.
After such an enjoyable meet-up and a similar one around this time last year, we might make those "Anti-January-Blues" meetings in the first weeks of the new year a tradition for the Trolls. No plans, no challenges, just plenty of booze and cartloads of fun. ![]()
Prim can be envied... super quick to get drunk, but similarly quick to sober up, and hardly ever having to deal with hangovers the next day.
This is a great idea, Harrier!
Yeah, my body is a bit strange when it comes to dealing with booze!
I get drunk very quickly, but my body also breaks down and metabolizes the alcohol very quickly. My enzymes must be some of the super-turbo variants. :f_biggrin::f_ugly:
Troll Trivia of the Week
Harrier likes to celebrate New Year's Eve with the family. It was a pleasant night, as always, but something went wrong:
1) We totally forgot the New Year's countdown
2) We left our board games with my nephews and had to pass the time playing cards
3) We had a little too much to drink
Solution:
Spoiler
1) We totally forgot the New Year's countdown
As usual, I did have some more drinks later when I went back to my own place, but when I was visiting my mother, we only had a glass of sparkling wine together to celebrate the new year - also as usual.
We also had our standard New Year's Eve board games at her place - we hardly ever get them out at any other time of the year, and my nephews would still be a bit too young for them anyway. Maybe one of those games will eventually be featured in a Troll Challenge with Prim...
We started with Carcassonne, this one being the winter edition, where the landscape you build together is covered in snow. The bottom picture shows the final one.

Then we played Alhambra, where each player is instead building their own Arabic palace. This one was mine at the end of the game:

As you can see from the picture above, we still had roughly half an hour left when we were done with the game and stored everything away. That's a bit too long to just pass the time chatting at such a late hour, but also too short to start most other games. I suggested a quick round of backgammon, but my mum thought that would take too long as well, so we played a quick game of the co-operative two player version of Codenames, where you are supposed to make your partner guess certain words and avoid certain others, all while only giving indirect hints.
About five minutes before the new year, we were almost done, but since we still needed to get the sparkling wine out and prepare some stuff, we decided to leave it there, so we won't miss anything. I allowed my mother to turn on the TV for once so we can hear the New Year's countdown there, and we got our glasses ready. I was looking around the apartment a bit while my mother was watching the TV. Eventually, she glares at that watch on the table, and mentions that we may have missed something... indeed, it was about 20 seconds past midnight already. ![]()
We both looked around confused, and I jokingly asked my mother if her TV was running late. Turns out we were just tuned in to the wrong station, which showed a recording of some concert instead.
We switched to one of those big national TV stations, and sure enough, they were already in the middle of celebrating the new year.
I still counted down from 10 to have a slightly belated New Year's countdown, then we clinked glasses and wished each other a Happy New Year.
I asked her if she would like to stay up for another hour so we can make a proper countdown for the British New Year at least, but she passed and we went outside to enjoy the fireworks, which were finally legal again this year. At least we didn't miss those. ![]()

Congratulations Saffo7, you were spot on!
Next question coming up on Sunday.
Look at this, I just shipped a HORSE freeroll on some crypto site. Maybe I'm not so terrible at this game after all.

Watch out, Prim...
Sunday HORSE Race
First poker challenge of 2023, and it continues just like it did last year.
I get a decent start, then get one or two bad runouts or boards and just completely lose interest while I have more interesting games running at the same time. I did get a second bullet and immediately made a bad tilt call with it, so it didn't last much longer either. I should probably stick to a single bullet in this game from now on, even though the rules of our challenge allow one rebuy. Still, better to just take the loss than to donk more money away, even if it's only $1.10. It adds up over time.
Primrose had a worse start, but then picked up speed. After I got out, however, she hit another card dead streak, and in the end, none of us cashed.
Another easy win for the grindette, those HORSE races continue to be pretty much freebies for her so far. I guess I'll have to make the Live Challenges count, or come up with better poker challenges.

I'll leave you with our hand of the day, where someone managed to hit quads and decided to play them aggressively against Prim... in Razz. ![]()

LMAO β however looking at the two boards, there was a remote chance that he could bluff.
Troll Trivia of the Week
Four-year-old Primrose had an accident in kindergarten once, which was...
1) Driving her bobby car into a tree
2) Passing gas at a very unfortunate moment
3) Going wee wee in a sandbox

I'm undecided on 1 or 3 even if I would choose 3
but yeah come on... I choose 3

Christmas Mussgoes?
Remember our "Trollsmas Market" challenges last month? I mentioned that they may continue until early January, but the Trolls weren't really in any Christmassy mood anymore. I heard Prim made one final attempt at churros shortly before New Year's Eve, but they didn't turn out all that great either.
I'd consider this challenge to be over, but then again... we still have mussgoes. I did get some stuff for special donut and waffles variations, and it would be a shame to let it all go to waste. There has been a good amount of waste already, I believe.
I would like to still make those waffles and donuts, and if I get to them, I will keep you posted. I also might as well make some currywurst, which was on the list too, but it isn't even a Christmas-related dish whatsoever. It's just common street food in Germany, so it is also commonly sold at Christmas markets, of course, and it made the list.
Any more guesses about little Primrose's little accident? deralte, maybe? Still one more day left to take your picks.
How can be in Christmas market mood at THIS mild weather? I have been in SPRING mood for about two weeks!:f_ugly:

Driving little cars into a tree is more like something Primrose would do in Mario Kart nowadays - in fact, I'm pretty sure she has done that plenty of times there already.
She also tends to display pretty good farting judgment... unless she is playing poker tournaments with a stomach flu and manages to make it all the way to the final table... ![]()
Four-year-old Primrose did, however, once relieve herself in a sandbox. She told me that story once a few years ago when we were on our way home after getting some takeout food at the beginning of one of our meet-ups. Maybe she can fill us in on some stuff later.
Basically, it went like this: It was playtime in kindergarten, and little Prim was playing with her friends in a sandbox, as she was suddenly beginning to feel an urge to pee. However, she did not feel like getting up and going to a bathroom, so she ignored it. The urge got progressively stronger, but Primrose was having such a good time in there and still didn't want to leave. Eventually, the inevitable happened... ![]()
Primrose's friends were in a hurry to leave that sandbox, and one of her kindergarten teachers was left having to deal with the mess. I remember when Prim first told me this story, I asked her at that point if it was even necessary to change her clothes, or if people in Socialist Hungary, where she grew up, were walking around in pee-stained pants all the time. Prim responded by attempting to shove my takeout schnitzel into my face...
Saffo7 goes two for two.
Congrats, well played! ![]()
