Troll Challenges 2022 Wrap-Up!
The Trolls are making their final Christmas preparations, and it is also time to wrap up this year's edition of the Troll Challenges.
Last year was won by Primrose. We will be tallying up the scores for this year soon, but first, let's take a look at the long-term challenges that will come to a close with the end of the Troll Challenges 2022:
Super Drunk Mario Land (Primrose)
After acing the co-operative version of this challenge in January, which we will get to later, Primrose was challenged to complete it on her own by the end of the year.
The rules:
- Play Super Mario Land 1 on the Gameboy (using an emulator, but no save states or other aids are allowed)
- Have a sip of Frangelico hazelnut liqueur every time you gain or lose a life in the game
- Beat the game in one sitting (using the continue option the game gives you for earning 100K points is allowed)
Primrose improved a lot at this game over the year - not so much at holding her liquor
- but while she made it almost 75% through the game on her latest attempt, she unfortunately fell short of the goal this year. She would have gotten one final chance yesterday, but the sniffles/Covid put an end to our planned meetup on short notice. Pity... but the grindette will have to take the loss on this one for the year.

But cheer up - we look forward to repeat this challenge in 2023, and this time, she will beat it for sure. Raise your glasses for Primrose!
Can You Bake It? (Harrier)
Right after the new year hit, I embarked on a challenge to improve my baking skills. I made a list with baked goods of various difficulties, trying to see how well I can handle them, hopefully making it all the way through by the end of the year.
Do you even remember that one? Thing is, this one got abandoned pretty quickly, as our day-to-day workload increased. In the end, I only managed to pass Level 1 - Apprentice, as I called it, making a basic loaf of bread with Prim's help over Skype.
At least that's not a fail, then - though it's still a little underwhelming. This is another challenge I would like to continue in 2023, when I should have more time than this year.
Ongoing Challenges
Apart from all that, there are still the Olympic Troll Winter Games, which is another live gaming challenge we started in February, to be possibly continued this winter. Will we get to it? Maybe.
Then, there is of course the Trollsmas Market, which will stay open until early January. Our current progress earns us 19 out of 45 possible stars (disregarding bonus items).

Finally, we started the Burgers around the World series, where I try to come up with my own burger variations inspired by countries and regions from around the world. We made seven of them this year, and our personal final rankings would be:
Harrier
1st Switzerland
2nd Greece
3rd Germany
4th Texas
5th Mexico
6th England
7th Hungary
Primrose
1st Greece
2nd Switzerland
3rd Hungary
4th Germany
5th Mexico
6th Texas
7th England
By dealing out seven points for a 1st place, six points for a 2nd place and so on, we would come up with this combined Troll ranking:
1st Greece and Switzerland (shared) - 13 points
3rd Germany - 9 points
4th Mexico, Hungary and Texas (shared) - 6 points
7th England - 3 points
Now all that is left to do is seeing who won in 2022.
