Hi,

This is more of a general question than anything else, targeted at coaches/judges playing NL500 and above only.

How does your pre flop stats look like? i used to be getting something like 25/22/10 and then after reading the book on applications of no limit holdem by matthew janda, i redesigned my range.

i am now getting something along the lines of 28/23/10.4.

i am calling some hands i usually dont call, as follows.

CO vs MP (assuming MP opens 18% of the time), i call in CO with ADDITIONAL JKs AJs ATs JQs TKs (on top of the normal AQo QKs AQs)

--------------------------------------------------

i am calling BB vs BU (assuming 50% BU open range with 2bb open) much wider for about 25% with the following hands i do not usually call with

6Ks 5Ks Q7s 8Js 8Ts K7o Axo

i added in the 3bet in bluff BB vs BU range as follows (total of about 17.5% 3bet BU vs BB including value hands)

4Ks 3Ks 2Ks 2Qs-6Qs 7Js 6Js 89s-69s 67s-57s 56s-46s 45s-35s

-------------------------------------------------------------

on the flop in position, on the button vs Co and button vs MP, i used to be raising an average of 10-12% on the flop and calling around 30-40%

i now raise an average of 20-25% and call 30-35%.

assuming a board of

6 :spade:8 :heart:j :diamond:

with CO opening 30% into me and i call

i call with around 14% of hands as follows

most broadways (stronger ones and weakest ones are 3betted), suited connectors and pocket pairs for about 185 combos, i will go ahead and fold about 40-45% of them and defend in the following ways

------------------------------

i raise a total of 17.3% (can it be more?)

bluff 78s 89s A8s 67s 56s 9Ts ( 23 combos)

value 66 88 JJ (9 combos)
---------------------
i call

TJs JQ JK AJ TT 99 ( 63 combos)

--------------------------------------

am i defending too little? too wide?

raising too much? raising too little?

calling too much? calling too little?

what if the board was wetter like 7 :spade:8 :spade:9 ?

what if the board was dryer like 27kr? how does that change my overall defending range in BU vs CO, and how does that change the weight of raising and calling?(more % of raises or more % of calls because its wetter/dryer?)

------------------------------

i am currently playing BB vs BU on the flop with the following rough strategy. (calling range of 25% on the BB, versus a 50% button open), SB folded and irrelevant

i bring 25% of hands for 330 combos to the flop consisting of

99-33,A8s-A2s,KTs-K5s,Q7s+,J8s+,T8s+,A9o-A2o,KTo-K7o,Q8o+,J9o+

when i check flop,

ASSUMING BU CB,

opponent usually bets around 70% of the time, i plan to check/fold 60% of the hands, and check/call 20% and check/raise 20%.

assume a board of 6 :spade: 9 :diamond: K :club:,

i check/call total of 73 combos ( around 22% of the range i called with, or 5.5% of my total hands)
K7o K8o KTo 8Ks (made hand) 40 combos

A8s-A6s ( backdoor flush draw) 9 combos

A9o A8o (pure floats intending to pull a bluff when turn checks back or fold when turn gets bet) 24 combos

i check/raise total of 42 combos for around 13% of the range i called with, or 3.2% of total hands.

99 66 K9 (made hand) 26 combos

A2s-A5s (backdoor flush draw) 12 combos

78s (bluff/draw) 4 combos.

-------------------------

same questions...

am i defending too little? too wide?

check raising too much? check raising too little? check raise range too value weighted? too bluff heavy? how much is enough?

calling too much? calling too little?

how about a donking range?

Thanks!

I'm probably calling all suited broadways and T9s. I'm 3betting some AXs and some lower suited connectors. Flatting 22+ and AJo/KQo

you can mix in some KJo/ATo sometimes in your 3b range. Thing to note is that you should roughly know what your 3b range is like here (maybe 5-6%) so you need around 3% bluff hands.

this is very much based on your comfort level. but general rule of thumb is that you can defend as much as he opens.

I think you can call like J6o+, T8o+, 9Xs+. I would 3bet J2o and some 8Xs or worse suited garbage, while flatting stuff which is remotely playable (like 96s, 85s). just be prepared to call down lighter if people are getting out of line

3b range amounts to something like a 12-13% range. Thats around a 6-7% air range.

that sounds like a calling range of close to 50%?

what is your plan on the flop? most of the time you are going to miss and have garbage and facing a cb, what hands would you choose to check/raise? check/call?

how many % should we be giving up on the flop with this 50% calling range? we need to win so often right?

I think 10-15% raise is reasonable. More volatile texture = More raising, less volatile texture = less raising. Don't raise for the sake of raising. And 20%+ is way too high IMO. You should be defending ~60% of your range, so if you are defending only 50%, that's way too low.

On a J86r, texture is on the less volatile side (3 over cards, some straight draws, no flush draws) so while raising with some hands like AJ could make sense, I would be doing a lot more calling here.

Strategy on whether to raise should also be based on how likely villain is to flat raises.

Bluff raising 8X is not good IMO. It's def strong enough to flat. 6X could be more of a raise but again, I would usually flat this and sometimes turn it into a c/r bluff on the Turn (bottom set blocker)

You need to float some backdoors, bluff raise some air/backdoors.

Example: Flop is A92r, you have KJ - This is a spot where you should often consider floating, since you have 2 overs to the 9 and sometimes K hi will be the best hand (like when the board is A9293 you can check it down.

Hi,

How about IP with weak hands?

how often should we raise? how often do we call? what do we call?
