Just finished another freeroll tournament $500 top 10 people get paid. This entire tournament was too aggressive any overpair in their hole cards they shoved. It was overall the worst freeroll I have ever played in I wouldn't even call them aggressive just donks. I finished 68th out of 678 people. I did well racked up a big stack of chips in the start riding the majority of it out however two people started shoving every hand and I didn't want to play in the game anymore so I called and my AJo got busted by AQs.
The 2nd freeroll I was playing in another $500 regular payout (15% I think.) I finished 133rd out of 804 people. In this game, I couldn't get anything started at all. I would get decent cards and I just kept missing the flop. This went on for a while until I had to get chips before I started to lose my chip to the blinds. I did a pure-bluff twice, had good starting hands, and missed the board but I was lucky enough to pick up the pots. (It's ill-advised to bluff in freerolls unless you know who you are playing.) I took it easy for a while. I was dealt pocket nines in the BB. Everyone folded beside the middle position who limped in. I raised 2.5 BB and MP called. The flop 5s 8h js I C betted half pot and MP called. The turn was 2c I checked because MP is a calling station the hand before he called another player raises on all streets with nothing. He checked. The river was 10c I raised 5 BB and he called. I was hoping he would have folded but that was wishful thinking. He had 9-10o. That left me with 6 BB's left and I started push/fold. I was dealt A-5s and shoved I was called by four others and missed everything and busted out.
Overall I'm content with my results today because I came away with money and had a good start with my bankroll challenge.
I would like to add that the main challenge is based on the site ACR where most of my poker is played. However, I will branch off on other sites and play there too. I plan on looking for a site that tracks my statistics so I can post them to add detail to my poker blog.
Some information about my playing style my main playing style is tight and aggressive. I can and do change to a loose and aggressive style depending on the situations at the tables I play. I can also play a tight defensive style that I use when short-stacked. I think my biggest advantage is the ability to fool my opponents' post-flop to make good hands look weak and weak hands look strong vis versa. Another advantage I have is defending my chips, I don't give away chips I protect my stack at all times, I don't leak unnecessary chips.
My disadvantages I'm horrible at heads-up poker I lose the majority of the time when there are only two people left. I don't use ICM, Implied odds, or pot odds. (I do use my outs, finding the range of opponents, tells and I pay attention to the table.) I don't use all the fancy plays but I use two that seem to be working for me. I'm not good at putting opponents on ranges but enough to get by. My betting is on the weaker side but it's not passive that I get taken advantage of it's more I don't know the proper betting size. I don't raise all-ins if I'm not 100% sure I can win and the same with calling them.
As for my statement on my first post about losing, I changed my mind about not posting losing sessions. I think it's important to also add losses because it tells the whole story of what I'm going through. That's all for tonight and will post again tommrow.
