Hey Evante,

Like you say, hand kinda plays itself. Your line is fine.

Villain probably holds something like QQ/JJ or a weak Kxs and going for thin value on the river.

Hey, why bet flop and give up is good? Dont you think hes got here a lot Tx, JJ, QQ that he can x/c? And probably nothing worse will call?
Isnt it better to fire 2 times if we bet this flop (or 3 when such a brick comes)?

Exploitatively, yes it might be. In fact we might be able to exploitatively fire 2 or 3 with our entire range.

As part of a balanced strategy we may have better hands to barrel the turn. (Hands that have no shot at winning at showdown unless improved). Also we'd barrel hands that make the nuts on the river with a higher frequency than 88. So nothing overly wrong with checking back 88 on turn imo (because our range is firing sufficiently often).

Ok, I understand, but could you explain why bet on flop is better that check back?
We most likely wont give free equity by checking to his two overs, because most of his 2 overcards has straight draw and people just cbet their gutshots usually.

By the way, I don't have any huge issues with a check back either. It's not a mandatory cbet. I don't have any huge problems with double barrel either in this spot.

Main reason betting is ok is just protection. We also may get called by worse, AdJd (if he didn't cbet), we also may fold out better, 99 etc.

Speaking generally, in a situation where nothing worse will call and the only hands that fold are better hands, it doesn't mean it's incorrect to bet for protection. Sometimes they hands that fold may have a ton of equity against us. Also by betting we protect ourselves being bluffed on a later street.

For example in this specific hand villain may fold 22 to our cbet. Seems like we didn't acheive much. But if we check back and villain fires the turn we then have to fold. So even when hands have very little equity we can often gain a decent amount of overall equity by protecting against them.
