Spoiler

Hero shows 8♣ 6♣ (Three of a Kind, Eights)

BTN shows A♠ 8♠ (Three of a Kind, Eights)
(Pre 69%, Flop 86%, Turn 86%)
BTN wins 131.5 BB

Preflop: The call vs relatively tight UTG is a little too loose, but I wanted to play as many hands as possible vs the fish on the BTN.

Flop: I saw no reason to bet into 4 people with my weak holding but after BTN bet half pot and BB calls, I decided to call, getting 4-1. This is a mistake, since not all of my few outs will be clean and vs BTN´s range I sometimes have implied odds, but also sometimes reverse implied odds.

Turn: I bink, but I have a weak kicker. After BB checks, I feel I need to bet for value and protection. Maybe I should actually go even bigger!? Not so sure about this. After BTN calls and BB folds, I feel pretty confident.

River: Unfortunately the flush arrives which could mean a) Villain has a flush or b) it is a scare card, denying me big value (I was less worried about the latter, since villain is a station)

But my hand is not that strong anyway, especially vs other 8x, so the flush card is actually good for me because it might prevent me from getting raised by better trips. Therefore, I should make some sort of blocking bet, intending to fold to a raise. I went for a bet that I think is to high with hindsight.
I think I could go for a much smaller thin-value/blocking bet, maybe like 20 bbs, or even less.

I am not so sure now, but at the time I thought my opponent was perfectly capable of calling river with 9x or other hands that I beat, too, based on stats and table dynamics. If that were a false assumption, I guess I should rather check-fold the river?

Pre is a bit too wide.
Flop I would lead with a pair. You might have the best hand. When you bet multiway you will have better fold equity. You also have to protect your hand.
Turn looks fine.
OTR vs a passive calling station I think betting small is fine, but I would like that 20bb bet more too. Normally I would think that you don't get much value from weaker hands by betting this and would go with a check. Then I'm not sure if check calling or check folding is better. Theoretically when you play like this and check the river your range is usually very weak and villain might exploit this -> you should defend with some frequency and trips might be one of the strongest hands that play this way. On the other hand I don't see villain bluffing OTR that much so you could make an exploitative fold (there are some better 8x and you don't block any flushes and I don't think villain would turn SD value hand into a bluff).

Fold preflop and save the trouble for another day.
If you want to play more vs BU, switch seats and get behind him.
You can bet yourself when mw on flop.
Turn bet is fine.
OTR I prefer bf vs such villain.
