facing big check raise on the river when holding strong trips

Hmm yea, river raises are often very strong and he does have some straights that can legitimately play that way. But also he might have lower sets and some 2 pair combos? Typically they don't raise river with just 2 pair but can we really put him on straights only and fold?
You check the flop and raise the turn so maybe your hand could seem bluffy to him?

I completely agree with your reasoning, think it was a nitty but correct fold. He could be raising you on the river with some missed flush draw containing straight blockers, but other than that, he is gonna have straights.

la55i reason why I don't bet the flop is because I feel I have a better chance of getting value in these spots by ch/calling turn and river. His bluffing range is larger than his value betting range in blinds battles. It also helps when you hit trips on a later street :-)
People are usually a bit more aggressive in these spots + I have position so I can inflate the pot on turn and river when I hit.
If it were not a blinds battle I would indeed probably bet the flop already and play a bit more straight forward.

You have range advantage and position advantage here. You are able to get calls from draws and some weaker hands. Your hand has very small chance to improve. Also your hand needs protection. I'm not sure how wise it is to give free cards and plan to call 2 streets.

Makes more sense indeed. Probably a case of fancy play syndrome :-)

To start off, I agree with lassi with a bet on the flop. There are a lot of turn cards that kill us, and if it is a reg a bet bet is coming your way.

As to the hand, I agree with the fold. I don't think this line is seen often enough. Theoretically it's probably a call, but population tendencies kick into play and I don't think people are ever going to be bluffing in this spot. At this stage you have a bluffcatcher, no blockers, and aren't committed to a call.

Its a bet for me OTF and a possible call on the river.
IMO Villain could do this with a 2 pair hand easily and he could have trips.
It doent look you have trips for sure. That wouldve bet more on OTT:-)
